Chapter Eighteen
The plates were piled up so high they were almost overflowing. Huo Yuzheng forked a small piece of macaron and held it to Mo Wansheng's lips.
She stared blankly at the macaron. Was he acting too?
Does he need to make his role so perfect?
A mocking voice rang out behind them, "I never expected that our ruthless CEO Huo would have such a tender side."
Mo Wansheng looked at the man who seemed to have ill intentions, and she felt somewhat at a loss.
"Ignore him, have a taste." Huo Yuzheng handed the fork to Mo Wansheng.
Mo Wansheng took the silver fork and put the macaron into her mouth; it was sweet and delicious.
Huo Yuzheng then slowly turned to the newcomer and stood between the man and Mo Wansheng.
"Mr. Shen, it's been a long time."
Mo Wansheng stole a few glances at the man from behind.
He appeared to be around the same age as Huo Yuzheng, and from head to toe, he was dressed in a suit and tie, looking quite dignified.
Judging from the atmosphere between the two, they probably have some kind of entanglement.
It wasn't very harmonious.
The man ignored Huo Yuzheng's attempt to shield her and slowly walked up to Mo Wansheng.
His tone was somewhat mocking, "Mr. Huo, aren't you going to introduce her? This is Mrs. Huo?"
Mo Wansheng had no hostility towards him, but she felt very uncomfortable when his blatant gaze roamed over her body.
Before Huo Yuzheng could speak, she took a light step forward.
She wore a bright smile, but her eyes were cold and sharp.
"You haven't even introduced yourself yet. It's a bit too impolite of you to presume to introduce yourself as a woman."
The man's eyes held a subtle amusement, which, far from diminishing in response to Mo Wansheng's counterattack, only grew more unrestrained.
He gently swirled the champagne glass in his hand. "Heh, it was my fault. This Mrs. Huo is certainly quick-witted."
“Chen Wei, CEO of Fengxing.” He nodded slightly, his tone carrying an undisguised sense of superiority.
"Mrs. Huo, can we get to know each other now?" Shen Wei extended his right hand, his gaze still lingering on Mo Wansheng like a sticky octopus.
Mo Wansheng hesitated for a moment. She didn't want to hold his hand, nor did she want to get to know him.
But reason told her that in this situation, basic etiquette should not be neglected.
Even though she disliked this person who suddenly appeared from the very beginning.
She eventually reached out her hand.
But just as her fingertips were about to touch Shen Wei, a large hand precisely gripped her wrist.
Huo Yuzheng pressed her hand down with undeniable force.
She looked up at his profile, but he didn't look at her; his eyes were fixed on Shen Wei's outstretched hand.
"Mr. Shen, there's no need for a handshake." His tone carried a casual warning.
Shen Wei's hand froze in mid-air; for a moment, he was unsure whether to extend it or retract it.
His sense of superiority was shattered, and a sinister glint flashed in his eyes.
Huo Yuzheng turned to Mo Wansheng, his voice much gentler, "Come on, there's other food over there, let's go take a look."
“Okay.” Mo Wansheng took Huo Yuzheng’s arm and left with him.
Only Shen Wei remained standing there.
His complexion was very bad, several shades darker.
After walking a distance, she whispered to Huo Yuzheng, "Is this okay?"
"Um?"
"Exactly, that President Shen, treating him like this... you two must have business dealings, right? This isn't right."
She wasn't particularly concerned about Huo Yuzheng's business, but she also didn't want to cause unnecessary conflict because of herself.
"Ignore him. He's provoking us mainly because we snatched the investment he was determined to get last time."
Mo Wansheng said thoughtfully, "I see."
Huo Yuzheng stopped and forked a small piece of the newly brought matcha cake, bringing it to Mo Wansheng's lips.
Faced with the matcha cake, she instinctively opened her mouth and put the cake in her mouth.
"Don't worry."
"If you don't like him, there's no need to force yourself to do things you don't really like."
"Mrs. Huo, I don't need you to be a tool in my work."
She froze, then looked up at Huo Yuzheng.
His eyes told her that he wasn't acting.
"I understand," she replied softly.
During the latter part of the dinner, Huo Yuzheng introduced her to many of his business associates.
Mo Wansheng responded to them very well, leaving a very good impression.
Many people came to offer toasts, but Huo Yuzheng turned them all away.
When they got home, Mo Wansheng sat quietly next to Huo Yuzheng.
The carriage wasn't very bright, and she would steal glances at Huo Yuzheng every now and then.
Perhaps the air conditioning was too cold, because she couldn't help but sneeze.
Almost the instant the voice fell, the slightly warm coat was placed on her legs, covering her white skin.
"Mr. Huo."
"Hmm? What is it?"
"May I ask you why you brought me to the banquet tonight?" Mo Wansheng finally asked the question that had been bothering her.
She wanted an answer directly from him.
All of this felt too real, and she wondered if it was just a "show" that the entrepreneurs needed.
"Firstly, Grandpa Lin really wants to meet you. He watched me grow up, but he couldn't come to the wedding because of his poor health, which is a pity."
"So he asked me to make sure you came to his birthday celebration this year."
Huo Yuzheng paused for a moment, seemingly thinking of another reasonable way to phrase it.
Mo Wansheng was impatient; she preemptively asked, "Then what about the second one?"
He glanced at Mo Wansheng, whose face was full of anxiety, and slowly said, "Secondly, the banquets held by the Lin family are all prepared by their own chefs. I think you should like the food here."
This answer surprised Mo Wansheng.
No wonder every dessert at the dinner party was exquisite and delicious to her.
At least this wasn't a requirement for acting, but rather fulfilling an old woman's wish, which relieved her.
"So, Mrs. Huo, did you enjoy the food tonight?"
Mo Wansheng met his gaze, and the corners of her mouth curved slightly.
At this moment, she is relaxed and genuinely happy.
"Mmm, it's delicious. Especially the matcha cake. Thank you, Mr. Huo."
The car was still moving, and the previous tension inside the carriage had disappeared.
Mo Wansheng quietly observed the dazzling lights outside the window. They stopped talking, but their hearts were filled with extraordinary peace and tranquility.
Upon arriving home, they stopped at the door of the master bedroom, said goodnight to each other, and then returned to their respective rooms.
After resting, Mo Wansheng sent a message to "Blueberry Cake".
"Recently, I feel like my marriage prospect is pretty good."
Blueberry cake: "Spend more time together, and you might be pleasantly surprised."
"Surprised?" Mo Wansheng murmured to herself.
They didn't spend much time together because Huo Yuzheng didn't go home often.
Over the course of nearly two months, he had indeed brought her many surprises.
The same applies to tonight's dinner.
"Boss, do you think I should also take the initiative to approach him?"
Except for the second night after their marriage, when she took the initiative to come to his study.
After that, she never dared to have any other thoughts.
She carefully guarded that clear boundary.
But now, the boundaries have begun to blur.
His embrace when he was drunk, his concern when he was sober...
These small, incremental changes are gradually eroding the initial, stiff phrase, "each to their own needs."
Mo Wansheng waited for a while, but "Blueberry Cake" did not reply to her immediately.
She gently put down her phone and breathed a sigh of relief.
More than anything, perhaps they just want to gain recognition from outsiders.
My phone suddenly lit up and vibrated.
"If you want to, why not? Just do what you want to do."
That handsome face appeared in her mind.
Perhaps she is right.
...
On Saturday evening, when Mo Wansheng returned to the suburban villa, the housekeeper delivered a letter.
She took the letter; she didn't know the sender at all.
The signature is "Sunshine Children's Charity Organization".
She examined the envelope several times before finally taking out a small knife and tearing it open.
Inside was a simple thank-you note and a photo.
The letter of thanks was formally and sincerely worded.
"Dear Ms. Mo Wansheng, we are deeply grateful for your generous donation of 5 million yuan on December 8th to support our organization's 'Sunshine Classroom' project. Because of your generosity and kindness, more children will be able to receive a better education and a brighter future."
The photo is a group of children from a mountainous area laughing heartily in a classroom.
Mo Wansheng froze, holding the letter in her hand. She had no idea about this.
Five million yuan? December 8th?
What was she doing at that time?
Just the week before this date, she was still showering Huo Yuzheng with money and gifts.
"Uncle Huang, do you know if Mr. Huo has made any donations recently?"
After a moment's thought, the butler replied, "Madam, I'm not really clear about Mr. Huo's business matters. If you want to know, you can ask him directly."
After thinking it over, Mo Wansheng finally sent a message to his assistant, Lin Hexuan.
Lin Hexuan was stunned for a moment when he received the message.
He then knocked on the door and entered Huo Yuzheng's office.
"What is it?" Huo Yuzheng looked up at him.
"Boss, your wife asked about the donation. Should we tell her?"
"Just tell the truth."
Lin Hexuan gave an awkward smile, "Okay, boss."
Actually, he was wondering if the boss could tell Mrs. Huo directly.
As an intermediary, if he chooses his words inappropriately, it will ultimately be somewhat problematic.
He hesitated for a long time before carefully replying.
"Mrs. Huo, you gave the boss a lot of gifts before. The boss selected some of them and sent them to auction, and then donated the proceeds in your name."
Mo Wansheng glanced at the replies on her phone and gave a soft snort.
No wonder Huo Yuzheng wasn't angry at all back then; he just disposed of all the things she gave him.
She put the letter back into the envelope and went back to her room.
I took out the nightgown I bought at the mall today, put it on, and tried it on in front of the full-length mirror.
It was a pure white lace slip dress, the straps of which accentuated her perfect collarbone.
Beneath the delicate lace, her heart stirred with unspeakable emotions.
Mo Wansheng took a deep breath, took off her nightgown, tidied it up, and put it back into the gift box.
Huo Yuzheng won't be going back to the suburban villa tonight. She plans to visit her father tomorrow and then ask him some questions.
She gently pushed the gift box deep into the wardrobe, and at the appropriate time, she would take it out again.
