Chapter Five
In the first few days after their wedding, Huo Yuzheng went back to his suburban villa every day.
In the following weeks, he returned home less and less frequently, only occasionally every few days.
The rest of the time, I spent in the apartment next to the company.
Every time he came back, he had a cold and indifferent face, without much emotion.
Mo Wansheng pondered that even if it was a family marriage, it shouldn't be like being strangers.
During this time, she also tried to build a harmonious marital relationship with him.
But the man's eyes remained completely expressionless, like those of an emotionless robot.
So she gave up completely.
Regardless of her attitude or her presence, she discovered that Huo Yuzheng wouldn't care.
He showed her through his actions that they were just strangers with a marriage certificate.
He doesn't care about her daily life, and at the same time, she doesn't care about his daily work.
She had never had such a difficult time with any of the arranged marriage/love-to-love type of romance novels she had played.
Huo Yuzheng, this ancestor, is like a robot that can't get anything out of it.
Is this the gap between games and reality?
Time flies, and in just one week, the day that Mo Ningchuan and Mo Wansheng had agreed upon will arrive.
Her elderly father required her to bring her son-in-law back to visit him every month.
This casually mentioned request was an impossible task for her.
After all, they had agreed before marriage that each would get what they needed.
Taking the son-in-law to visit the father-in-law's family is considered an extra requirement.
Besides, how could she possibly start a conversation with Huo Yuzheng, who was completely ignoring her?
However, Mo Wansheng decided to try to establish a friendly relationship with Huo Yuzheng.
However, she is now unsure how many days he will be back this week.
She revisited a game she had played before, studying it frame by frame, preparing to put all the strategies into practice.
On the first day of the operation, Mo Wansheng, like a bird ready to take flight, hugged Huo Yuzheng the moment he entered the room.
But she let go before she could hug him tightly around the waist; it was a very perfunctory hug.
It wasn't even a proper hug.
Huo Yuzheng calmly asked her, "What's wrong?"
She blinked, her eyelashes fluttering wildly, hoping to catch some extra emotion on his face.
But she failed.
On the second day of the operation, when Huo Yuzheng opened the villa door, Mo Wansheng leaned against the wooden stairs, her figure outlined in an antique-style cheongsam.
She deliberately put on airs, waved her little hand, and said softly, "Hi~"
If she had just been holding a handkerchief in her hand, the charm would have been even greater.
Huo Yuzheng looked up at the sound, but only lingered on Mo Wansheng for less than half a second before looking away.
She answered with a curt "Mmm" without any reaction.
He then walked past her, clearly not caring at all about her efforts.
Mo Wansheng's lips froze, the deliberately arched curve now resembling a puppet with its strings cut, unsure of what to do next.
She stomped her foot on the floor in annoyance; this guy was absolutely stubborn.
On the third day of the operation, there was only one day left until the day agreed upon with Mo Ningchuan.
The housekeeper said that Huo Yuzheng will be back for dinner tonight.
Mo Wansheng sat upright at the dining table, waiting for Huo Yuzheng to return so they could eat together.
Seeing Huo Yuzheng approaching, she deliberately stood up and pretended to be serious, "Thank you for your hard work."
"fine."
Mo Wansheng: "..."
She plopped down, stuffed rice into her mouth, and ate mouthful after mouthful without eating any vegetables.
Huo Yuzheng looked at her strange behavior and became puzzled.
He put down his chopsticks and asked, "What's wrong?"
He came back for three days that week.
For the past three days, she's been acting strangely, using all sorts of odd methods to welcome him home.
Mo Wansheng tilted her head to look at Huo Yuzheng, her face full of helplessness, "Can I say?"
But when she looked up at that face that still showed little emotion, Mo Wansheng shook her head and thought, "Never mind."
She continued to stuff large mouthfuls of rice into her mouth.
Huo Yuzheng reached out and took the chopsticks from her hand, which were not quite steady. "Go ahead and say it."
At that moment, she perked up instantly, "Hey, could you come home with me?"
Seeing that Huo Yuzheng didn't react, she snatched the chopsticks from his hand again, saying, "Never mind what I said."
"when?"
Seeing that there was hope, Mo Wansheng instantly came back to life.
"tomorrow!"
She immediately took out her phone and sent a message to her elderly father.
"I guarantee I'll bring your son-in-law back tomorrow."
Huo Yuzheng went through the schedule in his mind.
"Tomorrow is fine, but next time remember to let us know in advance if anything comes up."
"Yes! Definitely! I understand!"
Mo Wansheng nodded eagerly, then suddenly realized something.
Her mouth moved faster than her brain. "There can be a next time?" she blurted out, then quickly covered her mouth.
Huo Yuzheng: "Remember to tell me in advance next time."
He added, "Just say what you want to say. There's no need to be afraid to speak up. I won't eat people."
He put down his chopsticks, got up, and went to his study.
Mo Wansheng watched the tall figure leave quietly, humming a little tune.
Although his words had some implications, she ultimately completed the task.
He said he wouldn't eat people, but his unfathomable face was always a source of intimidation for her.
Even though his ID card showed he was only one year older than her, he always gave her the feeling that he had been through a lot.
After returning to his study, Huo Yuzheng sent a message to his assistant, Lin Hexuan.
"Send me a copy of the materials I asked you to prepare today."
It was late at night, and Lin Hexuan was trembling with fear.
"Okay, boss, is there anything else you need?"
"No, there's one more thing, which is to ask for a day of annual leave tomorrow."
"Okay, boss."
Lin Hexuan mechanically typed out this line of text, then froze.
This is the second time the boss has taken annual leave since taking office.
The first time was to get married, this time...
Tomorrow, the company group chat is going to be a gossip explosion again.
He couldn't imagine the bustling atmosphere, like a vegetable market.
After receiving the information from Lin Hexuan, Huo Yuzheng stayed in his study for several hours.
By the time all the materials had been reviewed, it was nearly midnight.
He got up, stretched his limbs, and went downstairs to get a glass of water.
But they unexpectedly ran into Mo Wansheng, who was lying on the kitchen table.
She rested her chin on her hand and swayed her head slightly in a rhythmic motion.
A small mango cake sat on the table; she was waiting for something.
Noticing Huo Yuzheng approaching, Mo Wansheng immediately stood up, smiled at him, and a shallow dimple appeared on her cheek.
"It's over!"
"Hmm." Huo Yuzheng walked past her to get a water glass.
Mo Wansheng snatched the cup from his hand. "I'll pour it for you."
His tone was very solicitous. "What would you like to drink? Tea or coffee?"
She realized something was wrong as soon as she finished speaking; drinking these things so late at night, she was trying to send her husband to meet the King of Hell.
Huo Yuzheng didn't seem to care much, and simply replied, "Plain water is fine."
She immediately filled a glass with water and handed it back to Huo Yuzheng.
"Thanks."
Mo Wansheng felt a little guilty. "You're welcome, you're welcome. Mr. Huo has been a great help. It's nothing."
After dinner, she intended to make a special trip to Huo Yuzheng's study to thank him again.
But seeing him flipping through a large stack of documents with a serious expression, she realized that she might have been adding extra burden to him.
It really should have been said in advance.
She was thinking too badly of him.
Huo Yuzheng slowly put down his water glass. "Get some rest. Let's buy some things tomorrow morning and go together."
He was preparing to leave.
"Wait a minute." Mo Wansheng picked up the mango cream cake from the table and handed it to Huo Yuzheng. "I made this especially for you. Don't you like the cakes from my dessert shop?"
"This is free! Consider it a thank you."
The hands of the clock in the living room crossed the threshold of twelve, beginning a new cycle.
Mo Wansheng withdrew her hand. "Uh, sorry, it's too late. Let's eat tomorrow."
Huo Yuzheng: "Give it to me."
He took the plate, picked up the spoon next to him, scooped out a large spoonful, put it in his mouth, and chewed it carefully.
The bread dough was handled perfectly, soft and fluffy, with a sweet aroma.
The mangoes and cream are both the freshest.
"It tastes very good."
Mo Wansheng blushed with pride after being praised.
"Of course, my skills must be excellent."
"I'll put the rest in the fridge first, and we'll finish them tomorrow."
Mo Wansheng seemed to remember something and asked, "What's your favorite flavor?"
Huo Yuzheng calmly replied, "Blueberry flavored."
Mo Wansheng seemed to understand, and gave a long "oh" to indicate that she knew.
Surprisingly, he also likes blueberry flavor.
What a coincidence, it's the same as "blueberry cake".
"I'll make you a blueberry cake next time! Goodnight!" She dashed off, leaving Huo Yuzheng standing there.
He examined the mango cake, then took a bite and put it in his mouth.
He really liked this flavor that wasn't too sweet or greasy.
Before he knew it, he had devoured the cake that he had originally planned to eat the next day.
The fatigue from a busy night was completely relieved.
Come to think of it, it's been a long time since I've had a Douceur cake. When I'm less busy, I'll have Lin Hexuan buy a few more and deliver them to the office.
...
The first thing Mo Wansheng did after getting up the next morning was to go straight to the kitchen and open the refrigerator.
She just didn't notice the mango cake.
She glanced at Huo Yuzheng, who was sitting at the dining table reading a book with a serious expression.
She gently closed the refrigerator, took nothing, and sat back down at the dining table.
Before leaving the kitchen, she glanced at the trash can.
A corpse without cake.
That leaves only one possibility.
A slight smile played on her lips, and she looked quite pleased with herself.
Sure enough, no one could resist her cake.
After the two finished breakfast together, the butler inquired about Huo Yuzheng's daily routine.
"Sir, are you going to work right away? I'll go call the driver."
He was also surprised today that his boss did not come to work at the usual time, and the driver waited for a long time before going to rest.
Huo Yuzheng: "I'm not going to the company today. It was a last-minute decision yesterday, and I didn't have time to tell you."
"No need to call Master Zhao anymore."
“Yes, Mr. Huo.”
The butler glanced at Mo Wansheng and Huo Yuzheng; it seemed that the madam and sir had something to do today.
After he left, he sent a message to the Huo family patriarch to report on the progress.
Huo Yuzheng drove himself and took Mo Wansheng to pick out some gifts.
He asked Mo Wansheng for her opinion, "Does Dad like anything?"
She waved her hand, "You just need to go. Pick any gift you like; he'll like anything."
She suddenly realized that this guy was actually willing to call Mo Ningchuan "Dad." She had thought he would only be polite at the wedding.
Despite what Mo Wansheng said, Huo Yuzheng still bought a whole carriage full of cars, big and small, filling the entire back of the carriage.
The car drove into Jingjiang Garden and stopped in front of Mo Ningchuan's villa.
Upon hearing that his daughter and son-in-law had arrived, Mo Ningchuan left home early and stood at the door to greet them.
As soon as she got out of the car, Mo Wansheng grabbed Huo Yuzheng's arm and said with a smile, "Dad, see, I wasn't lying to you."
Mo Ningchuan smiled broadly and patted Huo Yuzheng's shoulder lightly, "Mr. Huo, you've worked hard."
"Dad, you're too kind. Just call me Xiao Huo."
Mo Wansheng stood aside watching the show; this guy was still as eloquent as ever when it came to saying nice things.
Mo Ningchuan slapped his forehead. "Hey, I knew it! Stop catching up and come in, come in!"
The three of them went into the house together, and Huo Yuzheng asked the servants to help him take the gifts he brought out of the trunk.
It filled one corner of the living room.
The week after they got married, they went back to their parents' home, bringing a lot of things with them.
But that time, it was planned by the two elders of the Huo family.
The mother-in-law and father-in-law even sent Mo Wansheng to the old house to ask what her in-laws liked and to ask her to help them choose.
Huo Yuzheng was not present on the day they were choosing gifts.
Mo Wansheng was a little angry at the time, but everyone said that Huo Yuzheng was very busy during that period, so she didn't dwell on it anymore.
She hadn't expected that Huo Yuzheng would be willing to spend time picking out a gift for Mo Ningchuan.
He had only thought that he could drag him home and complete Mo Ningchuan's mission.
