Chapter Sixteen
Mo Wansheng's educational experience was unlike that of the rich kids in their circle. She did not choose to go abroad, but stayed in China to study at university.
She did quite well on her college entrance exam and successfully entered the university where her mother worked before she passed away.
This is also her parents' alma mater, and her birth was due to this encounter on campus.
At the beginning of the semester, her classically beautiful face attracted the attention of many senior students.
She didn't pay much attention, focusing instead on her chemistry studies and gaming career.
Occasionally on weekends, she would go to the arcade by herself and have a great time all day.
It wasn't that she was antisocial; she just knew perfectly well that her friends weren't really interested in this.
At first, she asked them to go a few times, but later she went by herself.
Many senior students did not continue pursuing her after being rejected.
Among his many suitors was a top student in their chemistry department, whose grades were always among the best.
He was not resigned at all after being rejected.
He delivered breakfast as usual, waited for Mo Wansheng downstairs, and even went to ask Mo Wansheng's roommate what she usually liked to do.
Everyone says he has admirable perseverance.
Although Mo Wansheng ignored him and treated him as if he were invisible.
He maintained this for three whole months, but Mo Wansheng was not moved, while her roommates were quite influenced.
Sometimes, he would even offer some advice to Mo Wansheng, but she would just ignore it.
During a casual conversation, a roommate let slip the secret.
After learning that Mo Wansheng liked to go to the arcade, the persistent senior went to the same place one weekend.
That afternoon, Mo Wansheng was completely absorbed in the rhythm game world, unable to extricate herself.
As the song ended, someone next to her grabbed her wrist.
She turned around and saw the senior who was always haunting her.
"What is it?" Mo Wansheng asked calmly, shaking off his impolite hand.
"Wansheng, I've been pursuing you for three months now, don't you have any feelings for me at all?"
Mo Wansheng's lips stiffened. She glanced at the guy who had ruined her good mood, shook her head, and said bluntly, "No, I prefer games."
She had heard that this senior's grades were decent, and his looks were not bad either.
Why are they so stubborn and unenlightened?
"Am I really that bad?" The senior's voice was almost a roar of dissatisfaction.
Mo Wansheng took a deep breath. Sometimes, even highly intelligent people can be quite slow to think.
She politely reassured the explosive man in front of her, "No, you're fine."
"Then why don't you have any feelings for me at all?" the senior questioned.
"Then I'd like to ask, do you like playing video games?" Mo Wansheng asked casually.
The senior student was clearly taken aback, his brows furrowing slightly. "What does this have to do with my question?"
"Just tell me whether you like it or not."
After thinking for a moment, the senior student replied seriously, "I don't play much, so I don't really like it."
“That’s right. I like playing games. We don’t even have any common hobbies.” Mo Wansheng paused, her eyes turning cold.
She warned him almost in a threatening tone, "You don't know me, yet you're pursuing me. I don't know if you're treating a relationship like a test you have to take alone. Liking someone is a two-way street, not something you've been pushing me for the past three months."
"Just like you don't like games, I don't like you either. These things can't be forced."
The senior's face darkened slightly, and he quickly retorted, "I can learn, I'm willing to understand for you..."
Mo Wansheng interrupted him before he could finish, her words laced with sarcasm, "And then what? Do things you don't like in order to gain my favor?"
The senior student was clearly getting anxious. His gaze lingered among the many game machines before finally settling on the basketball shooting machine not far away.
He pointed at the basketball shooting machine as if grasping at a last straw, "Um, I'm good at that game machine. If I win, does that mean I'm pretty good at games? Would you give me a chance?"
When Mo Wansheng heard about this childish bet, she thought it was utterly absurd.
"Senior, don't you understand? Excuse me, I have other things to do."
She was just about to walk away when her senior blocked her way again.
"Then let me play for a bit, and then we can talk about it." He had completely fallen into a state of paranoia.
Mo Wansheng snorted coldly, completely enraged, and raised her voice several decibels, "Get out of the way!"
But the senior student showed no intention of giving way; instead, he seemed determined to persist.
"What you're doing is harassment. If you don't move, I'll call security!" Her last bit of patience and politeness had been worn away.
The person in front of me is a madman.
Her voice startled the surrounding guests, who all turned to look at them.
The stubbornness on the senior's face had vanished, replaced by panic and fear. He subconsciously took a few steps back.
Mo Wansheng turned and left. She didn't look back at him even once.
That evening, Mo Wansheng walked alone on the tree-lined path at school. The autumn wind brushed against her face, and she recalled the absurdity of that afternoon.
That senior is ridiculous.
She is not particularly good at sports, and she is at a disadvantage when it comes to shooting.
What is he trying to prove with his expertise? Superiority?
His so-called liking was a superficial understanding, stemming from a complete lack of knowledge about what she actually liked.
The next morning, the senior student wasn't squatting downstairs at the dormitory.
Mo Wansheng breathed a sigh of relief; this matter was finally over.
Unexpectedly, a week later, rumors started circulating out of nowhere.
It's about her and that senior.
She suffered an undeserved misfortune.
They said she broke her promise, that she had promised her senior that she would be with him if he beat her at the arcade.
When her roommate brought her the widely circulated news, Mo Wansheng was stunned for a moment, then laughed in anger.
"You actually believe that? I agreed to it? Am I a three-year-old?"
Her roommate looked at her with some concern. "We don't believe it, after all, the person in front of us is right here. But these days everyone likes explosive relationship news, so even those who don't believe it might share it with their friends as a joke."
"Why don't you think of a way to calm this down?"
Another roommate added, "Yeah, I see everyone talking about it so enthusiastically, spreading rumors about a 'beautiful freshman in the chemistry department deceiving a top student's feelings."
Mo Wansheng snorted lightly, a hint of sarcasm flashing across her face. "Suppress it? You need to suppress this kind of topic?"
"Those who believe this might have something wrong with their heads."
She casually tossed her phone onto the table and said calmly, "The innocent will clear themselves."
She didn't care at all about this self-defeating lie; it was nothing more than foam on the water, without any foundation to support it.
The people's belief and concern are only temporary pleasure.
But quite a few people actually believe that every time she attends a professional class, someone is secretly pointing fingers at her.
Even though they have entered university, many people still subconsciously judge a person's worth based on their academic performance.
The senior's GPA is clearly laid out there.
As for her, Mo Wansheng, she was just a freshman who had just enrolled in school, and she had nothing to prove her abilities.
Perhaps only her college entrance exam score proves that she is not bad, but everyone here has similar scores and entered the same university.
The real competition begins after that.
Moreover, this rumor originated from an entertainment game console. The senior student naturally carries the label of "academic genius," while Mo Wansheng is given the persona of a lazy, game-loving life.
During one group discussion, one member even asked Mo Wansheng gossipily, "Is this true?"
"Do you play video games all day long?"
Mo Wansheng simply smiled and did not argue with him.
She will prove herself over time.
The first semester ended, and she had the highest GPA in the entire Chemistry Department.
The rumors gradually disappeared from everyone's conversations, leaving no trace.
Just as she initially said, everything fell apart on its own.
In the past few months, the strange looks she received have been replaced by envy.
Overall, she wasn't affected too much.
Mo Wansheng maintained her routine of studying, playing games, and studying again.
She didn't care about this insignificant little person.
However, some things that happen will eventually become a small thorn in one's side, making one feel somewhat uncomfortable.
After that, whenever Mo Wansheng saw a basketball shooting machine, she sometimes wanted to try it again.
But thinking about it, she didn't really want to touch on it again.
Mo Wansheng didn't mention her emotions at all, but calmly finished recounting what had happened.
After she finished speaking, Huo Yuzheng finally asked, "Were you sad back then?"
She chuckled softly, "No, someone has always been with me."
The first night she learned that she was being rumored about, she complained to "Blueberry Cake".
"Today was really annoying. I was spread rumors and fabricated out of thin air by an idiot."
"Blueberry Cake" didn't gossip about what happened; instead, she simply sent a message, "Want to play a game?", inviting her to play together.
The two played several FPS games to their hearts' content. Amidst the gunfire, Mo Wansheng almost forgot about the pent-up frustration in her heart.
Blueberry cake: "Don't worry about it too much, you have your own rhythm. The rumors will fall apart on their own."
"I just didn't expect that we're all adults, yet we're still wasting our lives playing such pointless tricks."
Blueberry cake: "With higher population density, intellectual low-lying areas have also formed."
Mo Wansheng chuckled. The humor of "Blueberry Cake" always blossomed from within a calm demeanor.
Blueberry Cake: "You played really well today, your technique was much more consistent than before. Also, don't overthink that thing."
"Of course! I'll definitely listen to what the boss says!"
The lump was transformed into a power board.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Mo Wansheng recalled this moment with a bright smile on her face.
"What happy thing have you thought of?" Huo Yuzheng's gentle voice came from beside her ear.
Mo Wansheng raised a finger and gently placed it in front of her lips, saying playfully, "It's a secret. I'll tell you when you're qualified."
Upon hearing this, Huo Yuzheng's smile deepened. Just how many secrets did she hold that he didn't know?
