Chapter Thirty-Six

Chapter Thirty-Six

For the next week, Mo Wansheng worked tirelessly to prepare for her trip to France.

Huo Yuzheng helped her a lot, but he was overwhelmed with too many things to do.

She didn't even have time to properly thank them.

This week, she completely forgot about her collaboration with "Blueberry Cake" to woo Huo Yuzheng.

It wasn't until Friday, when the procedures were almost finished, that she finally had time to breathe a sigh of relief.

That evening, she was just about to report to "Blueberry Cake" on the week's zero progress.

"Blueberry Cake" sent the message first.

"How have you been lately?"

Mo Wansheng slumped onto the sofa, phone in hand, looking hesitant.

After much thought, I decided to tell the truth.

"I'm sorry, but I'm going to France for a competition next week, and I've been busy with all sorts of paperwork this week, so there's been no progress at all."

"We hardly have any contact every day, and he seems to be very busy with work because it's the end of the year."

"We only see each other occasionally. I just finished dealing with everything today, in a week. He did help a lot with the paperwork."

Although Huo Yuzheng agreed to spend the Chinese New Year together in France, both sets of parents were very happy to hear about it.

However, the group had many things to deal with at the end of the year, so in the end, it was arranged that Mo Wansheng would go first.

Huo Yuzheng flew to France again during the week of Chinese New Year.

The news about "blueberry cake" popped up almost immediately.

"The competition is important."

Mo Wansheng gently pinched her cheeks to relieve the fatigue of the week.

The competition is indeed important.

But I always feel that there is someone else who is also very important.

"Boss, I've been thinking, and since I'm leaving on Monday, I'll treat him to a meal this weekend to express my gratitude. Isn't that a good idea?"

Almost at the same time she sent the message, she heard a cough coming from the next room.

Mo Wansheng glanced up at the open door but didn't think much of it.

My phone vibrated.

"I think this is a great idea. I think he'll be very happy."

Mo Wansheng smacked her lips triumphantly; she thought so too.

She put down her phone, got up, and left the room.

Like her, Huo Yuzheng did not close the door to the room.

Not knowing what he was doing, Mo Wansheng only saw him hurriedly stuff something into the drawer.

She cleared her throat. "Mr. Huo, are you free this weekend?"

Huo Yuzheng: "What is it?"

"I was thinking of inviting you to dinner, but I've been quite busy this week and haven't had a chance to thank you. I really appreciate the paperwork and all that."

"It's nothing." He shook his head slightly. "It's nothing."

Mo Wansheng's tone carried a hint of anticipation, "Then, is this Sunday okay?"

"Sure, you decide the time and place."

Huo Yuzheng checked the schedule and then added a sentence.

"I need to pick up an investor at the airport around 2 or 3 pm, so I might be a little late."

Mo Wansheng replied cheerfully, "It's okay, see you then. I'll tell you the time and place tomorrow."

Excited, looking forward to this date before leaving.

Finally, Mo Wansheng chose a Chinese restaurant.

I'm thinking of eating Western food for the next month, so I won't miss out on eating this delicious food later.

On Saturday night, Huo Yuzheng knocked on her bedroom door.

At this moment, Mo Wansheng was still packing her luggage, sorting out miscellaneous items and putting them into her suitcase.

Huo Yuzheng held a mini notebook in his hand. "Here, take this."

Mo Wansheng stood up, took the notebook, and asked in confusion, "What is this?"

Huo Yuzheng explained, "These are some of the century-old shops in Lyon. I said a few days ago that I would write you a guide, and this is it."

She nodded, opened the notebook, and glanced at it briefly.

This was beyond her expectations.

If he hadn't reminded her, she would have completely forgotten about it.

Besides, I originally thought it was an electronic document or something.

To my surprise, it was a handwritten note.

The above information was all personally recorded by Huo Yuzheng during his studies abroad.

This notebook looks quite old; the paper is slightly yellowed.

The ink writing had sunk into the paper.

To make it easier for Mo Wansheng to read and use, Huo Yuzheng specially made time this week to re-annotate it.

Compared to his flamboyant handwriting in his youth, his current handwriting appears neat and restrained, concealing much of his sharpness.

However, the strokes are all equally vigorous and powerful in their beginning, development, transition, and conclusion.

"Thanks!"

Mo Wansheng took the small backpack she was going to carry with her and put the notebook into a separate compartment.

"See you tomorrow!" She squatted down again to continue packing her luggage.

Huo Yuzheng didn't bother her any longer and replied, "See you tomorrow."

Before leaving the room, he added, "If you encounter any problems you can't solve in the next few days, feel free to contact me."

...

Sunday afternoon.

Mo Wansheng was carefully getting ready in front of the dressing mirror.

A phone call suddenly interrupted her.

Mo Wansheng glanced at the caller ID; she hadn't expected it to be Lu Yizhi.

As soon as she answered the phone, a startled voice rang in her ears, giving her a headache.

"What's up?"

"Sister-in-law! Sister-in-law! How can you sit still like this!"

Mo Wansheng frowned slightly; Lu Yizhi always spoke incoherently.

"What's the matter? I have an appointment later and need to go out."

Lu Yizhi's dramatic voice rose even higher, "Do you know who I saw at the airport?"

"Who is it?" Mo Wansheng placed her phone on the dressing table and turned on speakerphone.

She opened the drawer and took out the apple-shaped diamond necklace that Huo Yuzheng had given her before.

"Huo Yuzheng! Don't you know? Did Boss Huo go to the airport to pick him up?"

Mo Wansheng calmly replied, "I know, I know he went to the airport."

Because of Mo Wansheng's calmness, a scream of agony came from the phone.

"No! Sister-in-law! Do you even know what terrible thing has happened?!"

"I don't know. Isn't it normal for him to pick people up from the airport? He told me that."

"My God! Huo Yuzheng is inhuman! Sister-in-law, you're not angry at all. You're truly a role model for us all."

Mo Wansheng rubbed her temples, annoyed by his noise. "Little brother, what are you talking about? I'm hanging up."

She was just about to hang up when Lu Yizhi excitedly interrupted her: "He's answering a beautiful woman! A stunning beauty!"

The person on the other end of the phone was utterly indignant.

"And the two were chatting and laughing in the VIP lane! They've already gotten on the bus and are heading to the city!"

The necklace slipped from her fingers before she could fasten it properly.

In the mirror, there was Mo Wansheng's exquisite makeup and her bewildered expression.

Lu Yizhi sent her the photos he had taken.

Mo Wansheng opened the photo that Lu Yizhi had sent her.

In the VIP lounge, that aloof figure was him.

Following Huo Yuzheng's gaze, she focused on a slender, graceful figure at the entrance of the passageway.

The woman was wearing sunglasses, a champagne-colored satin dress, and had long, soft, slightly wavy hair that reached her waist; she was probably a big star.

The next second, the latest trending topics popped up on my phone's Weibo.

"A business tycoon greets the nation's goddess at the airport!"

In just a few seconds, the number of comments for this entry surged by hundreds of thousands.

Mo Wansheng clicked on the photo of the person who posted the thread.

The two people in the photo were even more intimate than in the one Lu Yizhi sent her; the woman was slightly bowing to Huo Yuzheng. Her profile carried a slight smile. Huo Yuzheng's face wasn't captured in the photo, but it was easy to see that they were chatting and laughing.

Lu Yizhi then sent her several more messages.

"Sister-in-law, I just happened to bump into him at the airport, don't be sad. I'll definitely teach that Huo Gouzi a lesson for you."

Mo Wansheng did not reply to Lu Yizhi. She just looked at the photo quietly, her fingertips gently zooming in on the screen.

Her gaze finally settled on Huo Yuzheng's hands hanging at his sides.

He was still wearing their wedding ring on his ring finger.

They happily said "goodnight" to each other yesterday.

She knew that in most cases, this was just an empty climax.

But the flood of voices online planted a thorn in her heart.

She knew perfectly well that he wouldn't do anything immoral, but she still felt terrible.

Mo Wansheng bent down and picked up the diamond necklace that had slipped onto the carpet.

She didn't put it on right away.

I simply put it back into the velvet box.

She sent a message to Huo Yuzheng.

"Will there be time for dinner tonight?"

There was no reply from the other end for a long time.

It is now four o'clock.

He explained to her that he would be picking up an investor at this time.

But what about that big star?

The names of female celebrities are trending on Weibo.

Qin Zinan.

At this moment, the word "hot" has changed to "explosive".

After hesitating for a moment, Mo Wansheng typed these three words into the Baidu search box.

Below the name is a long list of personal information and acting experience.

She read it from beginning to end, word by word.

Perhaps feeling unwilling to give up, she searched again in the search bar.

Does Qin Zinan have any investment projects?

AI's response was quick, essentially stating that Qin Zinan is a well-known actress who has never been involved in the investment industry, either in front of or behind the scenes.

Mo Wansheng let out a breath.

Huo Yuzheng still did not reply to her.

My whole body started to feel hot and I felt restless.

The phone screen remained on the chat dialog box with Huo Yuzheng for a long time.

Time passed slowly, yet it continued to torment Mo Wansheng's heart.

Suddenly, she didn't want to wait anymore.

He said he would come back to pick her up at 4:10.

But he hasn't replied to any of them, and he hasn't come back.

Moreover, the person who went to pick him up wasn't the investor he mentioned.

Mo Wansheng called the restaurant she had booked.

"Hello, I have something to do tonight, I'm sorry I really can't make it."

"It's alright, ma'am. You've confirmed the cancellation, right? If you are, I'll cancel it for you."

Her voice was weak, "Okay, thank you."

After processing the dinner reservation, Mo Wansheng rebooked her flight.

She glanced at the flight schedule; the next available flight was tonight.

Without any hesitation, she dragged her suitcase and headed to the airport.
