Chapter Twenty-Nine

Chapter Twenty-Nine

Bored out of her mind, Mo Wansheng curled up in the corner of the living room sofa, occasionally glancing at the time on her phone.

It was almost eleven o'clock. She stretched her limbs and yawned.

There was not a sound at my doorstep.

She couldn't help but complain, "This guy, he'll probably be back sometime again."

Just then, the sound of entering an electronic password came from the doorway.

He's back!

She dashed out, barefoot, and appeared at the entrance.

Huo Yuzheng pushed open the door, and the light in the porch outlined his tall figure.

"Happy birthday, Huo Yuzheng!" A smile bloomed on her face.

He was clearly stunned for a second when he saw Mo Wansheng.

Seeing that he didn't react, Mo Wansheng couldn't help but urge him softly, "What, are you still standing here, trying to be a doorman all night?"

"If you don't come in now, your birthday celebration period will be almost over in less than an hour."

Huo Yuzheng then came to his senses, said "thank you," and followed Mo Wansheng into the house.

As soon as he entered, his gaze fell on the round cake on the coffee table in the living room.

A slight smile played on her lips. Although it looked quite exquisite, it was still a different treatment compared to the one given to the "blueberry cake".

Mo Wansheng led him to sit in front of the cake and went to find a lighter.

"How is it? A starry blueberry mousse cake? I made it myself."

He nodded in agreement: "It's beautiful, thank you."

"Happy 27th birthday, Mr. Huo!" Mo Wansheng then lit the candles on the cake.

She turned off all the lights in the apartment, and the candlelight illuminated their faces.

Warm and peaceful. The flickering light is shimmering.

Mo Wansheng gazed into Huo Yuzheng's eyes, a glimmer of light shining within their depths.

Seeing that he didn't react, she gently patted his arm. "What are you standing there for? Make a wish."

Huo Yuzheng obediently closed his eyes, while Mo Wansheng clapped her hands and sang a birthday song.

Her eyes were fixed on the beauty mark at the corner of Huo Yuzheng's eye.

For a long time, so close, she stared at him, her heart trembling slightly like candlelight.

"Let's blow out the candles."

The sound of airflow brushed past the flickering flames, followed by a brief moment of darkness.

Mo Wansheng got up and groped to turn on the light.

Because I couldn't see, I stumbled and almost fell.

Fortunately, Huo Yuzheng caught her waist in time, and she leaned into his arms.

A faint, sweet scent of alcohol mingled with the fragrance of his embrace enveloped her.

In the darkness, her eyes darted around nervously.

She was both looking forward to it and worried about it.

Huo Yuzheng did not release her immediately.

She froze in his arms.

The loss of light amplifies the senses in darkness.

The sound of breathing brushed past my ears, stimulating the beating of my heart.

The warm breath drew closer little by little, making her feel a ticklish sensation.

Before Huo Yuzheng could fully bend down, Mo Wansheng took the initiative to lean up a little.

Their lips met.

It begins with a gentle touch, like a dragonfly skimming the water, and then gradually deepens.

Traces are left in the process of being worn and rubbed.

A surge of heat spread along her veins, flowing over her face, chest, and limbs, enveloping her completely.

The mind's consciousness began to drift.

She had forgotten where she was and what she was doing.

Their breaths lingered together for a long time.

Even though she hadn't eaten the birthday cake yet, she felt like she was tasting endless sweetness.

Soft and sweet.

Finally, the instigator released him from his confinement.

Mo Wansheng nestled limply into the sofa.

Due to prolonged lack of oxygen, she became somewhat disoriented.

Huo Yuzheng leaned down, close to her ear, and whispered, "Thank you, Mrs. Huo."

Afterwards, he turned on the light, and the light refracted by the crystal chandelier illuminated Mo Wansheng's flushed face.

She gently bit her lip, her gaze sweeping over Huo Yuzheng, who was sitting to the side.

He always acts like nothing happened, as if nothing has occurred.

If she hadn't noticed the wetness on his lips, she would have doubted whether the person who kissed her was him.

Mo Wansheng cleared her throat, feigning composure: "Birthday star, what wish did you make?"

"secret."

She knew he would say "secret".

He turned his head to the side and hummed softly, as if no one cared.

Huo Yuzheng leaned back on the sofa with a relaxed air, his smile deepening.

"Mrs. Huo, may I cut the cake now?"

“Cut it however you like, you’re the boss.” Mo Wansheng unlocked her phone screen; it was 11:16 PM. She added, “There are still 44 minutes left to use it.”

Huo Yuzheng was clearly teasing her. "Thank you for the kind reminder, Mrs. Huo."

Mo Wansheng pulled an exquisite box out from under the sofa with a slight irritation, raising her eyebrows slightly.

She shoved the box into Huo Yuzheng's arms. "Here, it's a birthday present. I hope you like it."

Huo Yuzheng put the cake knife aside and first opened the gift box.

It is a mechanical watch.

Understated luxury perfectly matches his overall aura.

"Thank you, Mrs. Huo. I suddenly miss that 'eligible bachelor's' gold watch."

Upon hearing this, Mo Wansheng glared at him fiercely.

I picked out a nice gift for him, so why is he still so petty and bringing up other people's past shortcomings?

Mo Wansheng's lips stiffened. "Mr. Huo has a good memory. It's been quite a while."

Huo Yuzheng remained gentle, "I remember everything Mrs. Huo gave me."

Mo Wansheng chuckled twice, forcing out a perfect smile, but her teeth were clenched so tightly they hurt.

A perfectly cut cake was pushed in front of her.

"Mrs. Huo, you eat first."

Whatever the birthday celebrant said, Mo Wansheng didn't stand on ceremony and picked up the spoon to taste it in large mouthfuls.

She had been waiting until now, and she was really hungry.

She ate with great concentration, her cheeks stuffed full.

As expected of her, her cakes are always delicious.

The overflowing sweetness completely soothed her fluctuating emotions caused by Huo Yuzheng.

Huo Yuzheng was elegantly savoring his slice when Mo Wansheng interrupted him, "Mr. Huo, how does my blueberry cake taste?"

"Sweet but not cloying, the blueberries are very fresh, everything is just right."

Hearing his detailed praise, Mo Wansheng became smug and proud.

He wore a "you know what's good for you" expression on his face.

She devoured the entire cake in front of her, slipped on her slippers, and got up to go into the kitchen.

When she returned to the living room, she was carrying a bowl of steaming noodles.

Beneath the clear broth, a perfectly round poached egg rests atop a simple bowl of noodles. The noodles appear to be hand-rolled, with some naturally uneven thickness in certain areas.

Mo Wansheng casually placed the bowl next to the cake. "I made these longevity noodles myself. You know what I mean. You can't skip them on your birthday."

Huo Yuzheng didn't pick up his chopsticks immediately, but instead looked up at her, who had an awkward expression on her face.

Seeing that he wasn't moving, Mo Wansheng immediately urged, "Eat quickly, it won't taste good if it gets soggy."

His voice was a few decibels lower than before, "Thank you."

Only then did he pick up his chopsticks and carefully and attentively begin eating his noodles.

As per Mo Wansheng's instructions, he did not let a single noodle stop where it shouldn't have.

The noodles were all eaten.

As Huo Yuzheng picked up the bowl and drank the last sip of soup, Mo Wansheng immediately moved closer to him.

Her eyes sparkled. "How is it? Is it delicious?"

Huo Yuzheng took a tissue from the side and wiped his mouth clean. "Mrs. Huo, this is the best longevity noodles I've ever eaten."

Mo Wansheng smiled because she had received affirmation; her eyes crinkled, and she radiated genuine happiness.

She relaxed and confessed her embarrassing experience of learning to cook that afternoon.

"Let me tell you, I was originally planning to cook a big feast for you, but to be honest, I really don't have the talent for cooking."

"Making desserts and cooking are completely different things."

"I tried following the recipe book for a long time, but to be honest, the result was really just ordinary."

"Then I thought, since you're going to social events, you'll definitely be eating all sorts of delicacies, and my scrambled eggs with tomatoes will definitely pale in comparison."

"Never mind, I'll just roll out some noodles. After all, I'm pretty good at making noodles."

"I was a little nervous when I put the noodles into the pot. I'm not good at controlling the gas stove, and I was afraid I would ruin the noodles."

"..."

Once Mo Wansheng starts talking, she can't stop.

But Huo Yuzheng did not interrupt her; he simply listened quietly.

He met her gaze and nodded slightly from time to time in response.

She poured out her heart, letting it all out.

After saying everything, I breathed a sigh of relief.

It was past midnight.

She stood up and clapped her hands lightly, "Birthday girl, your birthday is over."

"I'm going back to my room. Goodnight, Mr. Huo."

"etc."

Mo Wansheng paused, looking at him with a puzzled expression.

Is there anything else that can happen now?

Are you free this Sunday?

Mo Wansheng couldn't help but tease, "Mr. Huo, it's already past midnight. If you make a wish with me now, I won't grant it."

Huo Yuzheng chuckled, "It's not a wish, it's a reservation."

She said with a touch of arrogance, "Tell me what you'd like to book. I'll decide based on the situation."

Huo Yuzheng answered truthfully: "My friend returned to China these past two days, and I'd like to introduce you to him."

He added, "He's my childhood friend."

Mo Wansheng let out a long "oh," and then, using the same trick as before, asked, "What kind of loving couple do you need me to act out, Mr. Huo?"

Huo Yuzheng gave the same answer as last time.

"Mrs. Huo, just be yourself."

Mo Wansheng was very satisfied with the answer. She said cheerfully, "Okay, see you on Sunday. Remember to send me the time and address."

With her back to Huo Yuzheng, she waved her hand.

As soon as she closed the bedroom door, she received the address and time from Huo Yuzheng.

Thousand Degrees Bar.

Although she knew it was probably her childhood friend's request, it was still unusual for Huo Yuzheng to agree to go to a bar.
