Chapter Twenty-Two
After Huo Yuzheng moved into Mo Wansheng's house before their marriage, he would greet her every day when he came home.
However, Mo Wansheng ignored him, at most nodding in greeting.
She carried out the observation plan to the end, and even prepared a special notebook for it.
The words "Huo Yuzheng's Observation Diary" were written in large characters on the title page of the notebook.
"On December 21, Huo Yuzheng returned early and prepared dinner. He greeted me as soon as he entered the door, but I ignored him and just buried myself in studying the dessert menu, preparing to make some new creations. I did not see any displeasure on his face. He seemed to be completely unconcerned about my neglect of him. After finishing dinner as usual, he went to work in the study in the attic."
"He'll be back at 6 PM tonight, December 22nd. He made chicken soup today, it was very delicious. At the dinner table, he asked me what I wanted to eat tomorrow, and I rudely pretended not to hear him. I thought he would be furious, after all, he's quite tired, but he still came back to cook for me, and he remained very calm. I'm thinking, should I..."
"On December 23, I ran into him when I was going up in the elevator. He had just come back, and he greeted me. I responded, but we didn't say another word after that. We were still busy with our own things. He cooked dinner again that night. He hadn't let the housekeeper come over to cook for several days. I felt like he was going to come and be my chef on his own initiative."
On Christmas Eve, douceur orders were booming, and Mo Wansheng was busy until 7:30 p.m.
She looked through the glass window at the various colorful lights flashing in the street and unmolded the last cake.
This is an apple-shaped cream cake, reserved for Huo Yuzheng.
Although their conflict wasn't completely resolved, she had to admit that she still loved his cooking these days.
Mo Wansheng looked up at the streetlights, where snowflakes were fluttering down from the sky.
It's snowing.
The first snow of the year.
She packed the cake into a pre-prepared cake box, tidied up the kitchen utensils, wrapped her scarf around herself, and prepared to go home.
I didn't bring an umbrella today because I didn't check the weather forecast beforehand.
Large snowflakes danced in the air.
Within minutes, the snowflakes became more concentrated, landing on her hair and seeping into her neck.
Her face was red from the cold wind, and white mist rose and fell with her breath.
She walked slowly on the sidewalk.
A large umbrella suddenly shielded us from the cold that was falling from the sky.
Mo Wansheng looked up in surprise and saw Huo Yuzheng.
His large hand steadily held up the huge umbrella, keeping out the cold.
Mo Wansheng spoke first, "Why are you here?"
"I saw you weren't home yet, so I came to check on you."
"oh."
Huo Yuzheng looked at the cake box in Mo Wansheng's hand, "Let me take it, my hands are cold."
"oh."
However, Mo Wansheng did not move immediately because her hands, which had been exposed to the elements, were already numb from the cold and somewhat sluggish.
He then took the cake box and the two walked together through the vast snow.
The dessert shop is not far from Jingyuan, which is why Mo Wansheng bought the house here in the first place.
The streets were still crowded with people, mostly couples, preparing to spend a perfect Christmas Eve together and welcome Christmas Day.
Mo Wansheng tentatively asked, "Aren't you angry these past few days?"
"angry?"
Mo Wansheng stole a glance at Huo Yuzheng's profile. She really didn't see the slightest anger on his face, only a hint of confusion.
"I'm being rude by ignoring you. Aren't you angry?"
Huo Yuzheng paused slightly as snowflakes hurriedly landed on his umbrella, making a soft, rustling sound.
The sounds of couples laughing on the street and the melodious piano music coming from the small shop mingled together.
He looked at Mo Wansheng and calmly replied, "I'm not angry."
"My initiative to greet you is something I want to do, but whether you respond is up to you."
Mo Wansheng unconsciously tightened the scarf around her neck.
"Mrs. Huo, you have never done anything to make me angry."
"But if I do anything to upset you, you can tell me."
She gave a soft snort, arrogantly shifted her gaze to the side, and continued walking along the sidewalk.
On a nearby seat, a couple embraced and kissed passionately, oblivious to the heavy snowfall.
They were entangled together, inseparable.
Her gaze abruptly shifted to the other side, feigning being drawn to the glass shop windows along the roadside.
The light shone on the glass, vaguely reflecting the silhouettes of the couple entwined, and Huo Yuzheng's composed figure beside them.
The blush on her cheeks, which had just been chilled by the cold wind, was now ignited by the fire that had risen in her heart, burning even more intensely.
She could clearly feel her ears burning.
Embarrassment made her quicken her pace.
And it just so happens that we witnessed this scene together at this very moment.
The air grew thicker, and the sound of falling snowflakes became clearer. She could even feel Huo Yuzheng's gaze linger on her profile for a moment.
Mo Wansheng subconsciously quickened her pace, wanting to escape the unsettling world as soon as possible.
However, Huo Yuzheng remained unhurried and steadily followed her, ensuring that the umbrella completely covered her and that the snowflakes did not fall on her.
Only when she was a few streetlights away from that passionate scene did her wildly beating heart begin to calm down.
"Are you cold?" his deep voice asked.
Mo Wansheng shook her head violently, her voice muffled by her scarf, "I'm not cold."
"Almost there, I'll be home at the next traffic light."
"Mmm." Her voice was muffled by the wind and snow, almost inaudible.
After a brief exchange, the two fell silent again.
Back in the apartment, Mo Wansheng took out a cream cake, two plates, and a small knife.
She prepared to use a knife to cut the apple shape into two pieces.
"Wait a minute," Huo Yuzheng stopped her.
Mo Wansheng's hand, which was gripping the knife hilt, hung in the air as she looked at him, puzzled.
Huo Yuzheng walked around behind her and took the knife from her hand. "Don't cut."
"How can you eat it if you don't cut it?"
"It's not good to cut it open."
Mo Wansheng's lips stiffened. How could he be so superstitious?
She looked at his serious profile and couldn't help but blurt out, "Huo Yuzheng, are you really that naive? You still believe in this?"
Huo Yuzheng chuckled softly, took a spoon, scooped out a small spoonful, and held it to Mo Wansheng's lips.
She instinctively opened her mouth and put the cake in it.
Unexpectedly, the next second, Huo Yuzheng leaned down and kissed her.
The world stood still at that moment.
Mo Wansheng suddenly opened her eyes wide. The soft, warm touch on her lips mingled with the sweet, unmelted cake in her mouth.
Make her dizzy.
Huo Yuzheng carefully licked away the cream from the corner of her lips, and when his tongue pried open her slightly parted lips, everything changed.
He held the back of her head with one hand, deepening the kiss.
The sweet aroma of cream lingers on the lips and teeth.
It has a faint, fresh apple scent.
The kiss was passionate and deep.
Mo Wansheng was forced to tilt her head back. She felt his other hand grip her waist, holding her tightly.
Tensioned muscles, racing heartbeats, burning passion between us.
"Ugh..." She could barely breathe, yet she was completely absorbed in it.
As they rubbed against each other, low, hoarse breaths escaped their lips.
Her face turned as red as if it were ripe, and Huo Yuzheng finally let her go.
The weight that had been pressing down on me was gone.
“Mrs. Huo, I am very naive.” He leaned close to her ear, each word a hot whisper.
Mo Wansheng turned her face away, not wanting to look at him who was playing a prank.
Suddenly, a chill touched her neck.
She looked down at the sudden touch; it was a necklace.
A diamond apple hangs from the necklace.
The exquisite cuts refracted a dazzling light under the lamp.
Huo Yuzheng's fingertips gently traced the clasp behind her neck, his movements delicate and tender.
"Mrs. Huo, Merry Christmas Eve." His voice was deep, and the playful tone from before had disappeared.
The diamond apple landed right on her collarbone, rising and falling with her breath.
"The cake is delicious." Huo Yuzheng's lips curled up slightly.
His praise made her blush even more.
It wasn't the cake that was delicious, it was that kiss...
That creamy, sweet scent with a refreshing apple flavor was like an indelible mark imprinted on her lips.
"You can eat slowly by yourself." Mo Wansheng's cheeks were burning hot, and she quickly ducked back into her room.
The door slammed shut, leaving Huo Yuzheng alone.
Huo Yuzheng watched the embarrassed and annoyed figure disappear behind the door, and the smile in his eyes deepened.
This kiss was not an accident.
When he saw the couple, he wanted to kiss her.
He thought he could rationally restrain himself, but when he saw her mouth covered in cream, his body acted faster than his brain.
In the room, Mo Wansheng looked up at the ceiling in frustration, and took out the observation diary she had kept from the drawer.
She picked up the pen, but then put it down again.
After repeating this several times, she finally gave up.
Then, she picked up the necklace around her neck and examined it for a long time.
However, her mind was still filled with that kiss that almost made her lose herself.
The pen was grasped again, and she wrote a line of words in a flowing, elegant style.
"Huo Yuzheng is a big bad guy."
Feeling unsatisfied, she wrote an entire page, only stopping when she was exhausted.
Just then, there was a knock on the door. Feeling guilty, she quickly closed the notebook and stuffed it into the drawer.
Only then did he get up and open the door.
"What is it?" Her gaze fell on the plate that Huo Yuzheng was holding.
It contained a slice of apple cake.
"It tastes very good."
"You eat it yourself." Mo Wansheng pushed the plate away. "I'm not eating anymore, I'm not eating anymore."
Still angry?
"No!" Mo Wansheng said stubbornly, turning her face away, not wanting to meet his gaze.
The next second, Huo Yuzheng reached out, dipped his finger in the cream on the plate, and dabbed it on the tip of her nose.
His gaze darkened. "If you don't eat..."
Mo Wansheng instantly became alert. Before he could make any further moves, she reached out and pressed against his chest, pushing him directly out the door.
The door was now just a crack.
She shouted loudly through the door, "Huo Yuzheng!"
No knocking tonight!
Through the crack in the door that was about to close, he saw her flushed cheeks, her embarrassed and annoyed eyes, and the white cream on the tip of her nose looked especially cute.
The door slammed shut in front of him, and he could even hear the click of it being locked from the inside.
