Chapter Thirty-Four
Huo Yuzheng returned to Jingyuan early, instructed the housekeeper to cook rice, and then stir-fried a few dishes that Mo Wansheng liked.
Mo Wansheng stood at the door, not entering the password for a long time. Even though she was going back to her own home, she felt unusually guilty.
After hesitating for a moment, she pressed her ear against the door, trying to find out if Huo Yuzheng had returned.
Everything was quiet, except for the cold wind blowing from the corridor.
As if she had made up her mind, she opened the door and strode inside.
"You're back? Let's have dinner together."
Before even seeing Huo Yuzheng, I could already hear his voice.
He was leaning against the sofa in the living room, waiting for Mo Wansheng to come back.
Mo Wansheng obediently said "Oh," and after washing her hands, she sat down at the dining table.
She and he were face to face.
The porcelain-white clay pot held freshly cooked chicken soup, steaming gently. It subtly created a boundary between them.
Mo Wansheng simply buried herself in her dinner, focusing all her attention on the food, without glancing at Huo Yuzheng.
Surprisingly, Huo Yuzheng spoke up during the meal.
"Next time, even if you're angry, don't skip breakfast."
She paused, somewhat annoyed, as she ate her rice.
He poked at the rice grains in his bowl with his chopsticks, his voice muffled, "I'm not angry."
She wasn't angry, just embarrassed.
“Hmm,” Huo Yuzheng replied, “That’s why I said next time when you’re angry.”
Mo Wansheng replied softly, "I understand."
His tone carried a sense of reluctant compromise.
Once she started talking, she naturally continued.
"By the way, are you free tomorrow? Can you come with me to see my dad?"
"Yes, I've already asked my assistant to make time for me."
"Oh." Mo Wansheng blinked. It turned out that he had deliberately set aside time for this, rather than it being a time when he happened to be resting.
The monthly visit had long been an unspoken agreement between them.
Huo Yuzheng's voice rang out again, calmly stating, "Dad asked us to stay overnight tomorrow night. He said he would cook dinner himself."
Mo Wansheng's hand, which had just picked up a piece of potato, froze in mid-air, her face filled with astonishment.
Mo Ningchuan approves of the marriage, but most of the time she still sees him as a superior.
They hadn't met many times, and she was surprised that they had become so familiar with each other without her knowledge.
Why are you still contacting him?
Huo Yuzheng met her questioning gaze and calmly said, "When we first visited, I asked for Dad's contact information."
Noticing that she still didn't quite believe it, she added, "Every now and then, I'll check in on Dad."
During that homecoming visit, they chatted happily, but Mo Wansheng took it as just polite conversation between business people.
What she didn't expect was that Huo Yuzheng had already surpassed her and established an independent and stable relationship with her father.
His meticulousness in every aspect is truly exemplary.
No wonder, Mo Ningchuan has been calling her less and less often to inquire about their marital relationship.
Mo Wansheng's voice was soft, "Thank you."
Huo Yuzheng did not respond to her thanks, but simply removed the skin from the fish and placed it in her bowl.
He naturally changed the subject, "Dad said he'll be making salt and pepper shrimp tomorrow, you can look forward to it."
Mo Wansheng looked up at him and smiled brightly, "Mm."
"By the way, do you remember what I told you last time?"
"I remember you said that praising Dad's cooking would make him very happy."
She gave him a thumbs up. "Bingo! You can do a great job! By the way, the food you cooked today was delicious too!"
A faint smile appeared on Huo Yuzheng's lips; she remained generous with praise.
After dinner, Mo Wansheng did not go straight back to her bedroom.
She nestled on the sofa in the living room and first sent a message to "Blueberry Cake".
"Hey bro, got some time to play games tonight?"
"I'm afraid that won't work."
"Oh, that's such a shame. *crying emoji*"
Mo Wansheng collapsed onto the sofa, looking up at the chandelier on the ceiling.
He glanced at Huo Yuzheng's guest room out of the corner of his eye.
Looks like if I want to play a two-player game, I'll have to ask him tonight.
"Dude, I've decided to go find that guy and play games with him! Another proactive move, wish me luck!"
Have fun playing the game.
Mo Wansheng tossed her phone onto the sofa, straightened up, and strode to the door of the guest room bedroom.
Without knocking, she called out loudly from outside the door, "Ahem! Do you have time now?"
"Please come in, Mrs. Huo."
A sound came from inside the room.
Mo Wansheng hesitated for a moment, then turned the lock on the door. For some reason, she felt that Huo Yuzheng was unusually fake at this moment.
He was holding an economics book, wearing gold-rimmed glasses, and sitting upright.
Those stiff muscle lines gave it all away.
She had seen him work before, and his focused demeanor was quite different from how he was now.
I don't know what illness he has.
Mo Wansheng repeated, "So, do you have time?"
"Yes, what is it?" Huo Yuzheng put down the book in his hand and looked at her slowly.
"Can you play a two-player game with me?" Her eyes were full of anticipation, and she spoke with great enthusiasm when the topic of games came up.
"What do you want to fight?"
"A Couple's Journey!" Mo Wansheng bought it a long time ago, but hasn't had a chance to play it yet.
I wasn't particularly interested in "Blueberry Cake," so it's just been gathering dust in my game library.
Huo Yuzheng's tone was flat, revealing no emotion. "I've never played it before, so I'm not very good at it."
Mo Wansheng's enthusiasm grew even higher. "It's okay! You're so good at other games, this will definitely be easy for you! I'll teach you!"
She turned around briskly. "Let's go to my room."
Huo Yuzheng paused for a moment, then raised his hand, took off his gold-rimmed glasses, and got up to follow Mo Wansheng.
This was the first time he had ever been to her apartment room.
The layout is almost identical to her room in Jingjiang Garden during her teenage years, but it is bolder and full of her hobbies and interests.
The walls were almost entirely covered with all sorts of colorful game posters.
Some otome game posters are shockingly explicit.
Comfortable gaming chairs, computer cases flashing with colorful lights, and several beanbag chairs on the carpet.
Everything was so vibrant; this place was a dreamscape that Mo Wansheng had created for the game.
Mo Wansheng sat in the gaming chair, spun around, and turned on the computer.
"Sit anywhere you like." She turned to look at him and pointed to the beanbag chair on the floor.
Huo Yuzheng didn't say anything and walked towards the relatively sturdy-looking dark green beanbag sofa.
As soon as he sat down, he became engrossed in it.
His long legs were bent, and he seemed unsure of what to do with them.
Mo Wansheng smiled as she watched his subtle, constantly adjusting movements.
She logged into her game account and projected her computer screen.
Huo Yuzheng read out her game ID, "Bamboo?"
"Hmm, is there a problem?"
Mo Wansheng loaded the game, opened the drawer, and asked, "What color controller do you want?"
"It will be all right."
She then handed him a pink controller, saying, "A must-have for tough guys."
He then got up from his gaming chair and nestled into another beanbag chair next to him.
She nestled comfortably into him, turning her head to look at him with a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"Let me show you the power of 'raw bamboo'! I'll carry you through the skies later!"
Huo Yuzheng watched with great interest as she manipulated the controller and adjusted the operation.
The game begins with an animation.
The prologue then quickly followed.
Which one do you want to control?
One is the more composed-looking Cody, and the other is the clever and adorable Mei.
Huo Yuzheng barely hesitated, then gently pressed the pink controller and selected Xiaomei.
"Are you sure you want to choose Xiaomei?" Mo Wansheng was a little surprised. She had thought he would choose Cody.
"Her operation requirements are a bit higher."
"Well, with Mrs. Huo teaching me, there shouldn't be any problems." Huo Yuzheng shook the controller in his hand. "Besides, it's a better match for the controller."
The game has officially begun.
Mo Wansheng leaned over and moved closer to Huo Yuzheng.
Her finger tapped on his controller. "Look, you control the direction like this, and then press this button to jump over."
Huo Yuzheng didn't listen at all, his gaze remaining fixed on her profile.
Mo Wansheng explained it in detail, then suddenly remembered something.
She quickly looked up and met his gaze.
"I forgot! Don't you know how to use a controller?" she couldn't help but scold. "Why didn't you remind me? You said you weren't very good at it, but what was it that you didn't know how to use?"
Huo Yuzheng calmly adjusted his position on the beanbag chair, showing no sign of panic.
"I'm not really familiar with the game mechanics."
"For example, I don't know at what point I need Mrs. Huo's help."
Mo Wansheng instantly understood; he had done it on purpose.
However, she quite enjoyed teaching others and stopped arguing with him.
She gripped the controller again, focused her attention on the screen, and began to control the character's movements.
The little figure in the picture moves, and she moves her body accordingly.
As Cody jumped, her body leaned forward. At a corner, she twisted her body to turn while holding the handles.
She was completely immersed in the world of the game.
He kept chanting "Jump!" and "Yay!" in sync with the character's movements.
Under Huo Yuzheng's control, Xiaomei's every movement was perfect and precise, with almost no mistakes.
They leap and dart about nimbly.
His cooperation with Cody was seamless.
He was more attracted to Mo Wansheng's focus than to the images on the screen.
In the brief moment between controlling his character, his gaze quietly fell upon her profile.
The warm light shone on her, and she exuded a relaxed and genuine vitality.
Sometimes she pursed her lips, sometimes her eyes lit up.
He noticed every little movement.
Huo Yuzheng's deep gaze softened.
He liked seeing her like this.
I love this vibrant Mo Wansheng, who is immersed in her own world.
Mo Wansheng cheered excitedly, "Wow! I passed the first level!"
She instinctively turned her head, wanting to share this joy with him.
At the same time, the cell phone rang.
"Excuse me, I need to take this call."
Before she could get up, Huo Yuzheng reached for the phone on the small table and handed it to Mo Wansheng.
"Thank you!" She smiled at him and took the phone.
The caller surprised her.
The phone screen had the words "Senior" written in large letters on the contact name.
