Chapter 51 Can't I just buy it with my own money?
Yan Sui listened to their argument, her feelings were mixed.
If you make such a big boast, it'll be hard to back down now.
These days, many villagers are hoping that she will contract another 100 or 200 acres of land so that she can expand her business and attract more people.
Now it's even worse; it's impossible to clear my name now.
Yan Mo scoffed, "You actually believe her? It's not even certain whether this orchard will make money or not. She doesn't have that much money to lose."
Before Yan Sui left, Yan Zhaohua and his wife gave her ten million.
Judging by her current pace, she could probably contract far more land than she needs.
But her words didn't sound very pleasant to these elderly men and women.
"Where are you from? You don't look like someone from Changqing Village, do you?"
"How can someone so young speak so rudely? Did you lick the latrine before you even left the house?"
"You're hoping they don't make money? That's incredibly malicious of you."
"Whose daughter are you? Who are you looking for? I have to go over and ask you how you raised your daughter."
Yan Mo's expression changed, fearing that they would really go to Xu Mocun to question him.
If she leaves a bad impression on Xu Mo before they even meet, that would be a disaster.
She bit her lip, decided not to argue with Yan Sui any longer, and hurriedly left.
She made her way to Xu Mocun's house and only knocked on the door after confirming that it was indeed Xu Mocun's house.
The door was ajar, and after a moment of silence, she pushed it open and went inside.
The yard was very clean, with just a grape trellis where the vines had just sprouted new leaves.
Is anyone home?
Just then, a sound came from inside the house, and Xu Mocun walked out with his hands behind his back.
But his expression wasn't very pleasant; he was clearly displeased with Yan Mo's uninvited arrival.
Who are you?
"Grandpa Xu, I am Yan Mo."
Xu Mocun was taken aback. "Oh, I don't know him."
Yan Mo bit her lip. "How could I not know him? I was introduced by Uncle Xu."
"Which Uncle Xu?"
"Xu Tianxu".
Xu Mocun scoffed coldly, "He doesn't have that much influence over me."
He had two sons and a daughter, none of whom he favored.
Otherwise, he wouldn't have hidden himself in this rural area.
Xu Mocun waved his hand, "Go if you have nothing else to do, I'm busy."
Yan Mo looked up in disbelief, cursing inwardly that she should have just not mentioned Xu Tianxu's name.
"Grandpa Xu, I have something to ask you. I would like to request a piece of calligraphy from you."
Xu Mocun refused outright: "I'm retiring from writing."
Yan Mo: "When did you stop writing? I've never heard my dad mention it."
The old man still has ink in his hand; he's definitely trying to fool her by saying he's retiring from writing.
Xu Mocun chuckled, "Your dad isn't my dad. Do I have to notify him before I stop writing?"
Yan Mo bit her lip. "I just want a piece of calligraphy. It won't take up much of your time. Just name your price, and I'll pay for it, okay?"
"Just because you pay me doesn't mean I have to sell. If money really could buy anything, my calligraphy wouldn't be available for you to buy." Xu Mocun retorted without any politeness.
Yan Mo almost had a heart attack from anger. She had come all the way here in person, wasn't that enough sincerity?
When Fu Qingci summoned her, she didn't tell her that this matter would be so difficult.
"Grandpa Xu, why don't you make a condition? What would it take for you to help me write it?"
"I've already told you, I'm retiring from writing. Why are you so stubborn, daughter?"
Xu Mocun was getting impatient with her.
Although he has a bad temper, he rarely says unpleasant things to people.
But Yan Mo wouldn't let it go, making him extremely upset.
Just now, he had clearly expressed his unwillingness to write, but Yan Mo pointed at his hand and questioned him:
"If you've really stopped writing, why do you still have ink on your hands?"
Xu Mocun felt no guilt whatsoever; instead, he laughed.
"I'll write if I want to, and I won't if I don't want to. Do I need to explain to you? I don't think you're here to ask for calligraphy. You're putting on airs. Why don't you just issue me an imperial edict?"
Yan Mo's face turned pale, and she hurriedly explained, "Grandpa Xu, I didn't mean that. I just wanted to express my sincerity."
He waved his hand and said, "If you're really sincere, then don't stay here."
After saying that, Xu Mocun said no more and went inside.
His courtyard house isn't big; the main house is enough for him.
Inside is a living room, with a bedroom on the left and a study on the right, all of which are quite spacious.
He was writing in his study before Yan Mo arrived.
He had already given Yan Sui the calligraphy he had promised to write, but he thought that Yan Sui's courtyard house was about to be renovated and there would definitely be many places to hang it, so he decided to write a few more.
But he didn't expect that Yan Mo hadn't left at all.
She lingered in the courtyard for a moment, then secretly slipped inside.
Seeing his calligraphy pieces that hadn't dried yet, she couldn't help but say, "Grandpa Xu, I think these calligraphy pieces of yours are quite good. Can I have any one of them?"
She suddenly spoke, startling Xu Mocun.
His face darkened completely. "I didn't let you in. This is trespassing. Do you want me to call the police?"
Yan Mo was really anxious. She didn't want to have come all this way for nothing, and she didn't have that much time to waste with him.
"Grandpa Xu, I won't take it for free, I can buy it with money."
He was so impatient with dealing with this that he casually said, "I wrote this calligraphy for someone else. If you really want it, go buy it from her."
"Okay, please give me your contact information."
Yan Mo thought to herself, this person can't be as troublesome as Xu Mocun.
Xu Mocun then said, "Go to No. 36 Changqing Village and ask them. If they agree to sell it to you, you can take it away right now."
His old bones couldn't handle it, so he'd rather let Yan Sui talk to her.
Yan Mo was overjoyed, at least Xu Mocun's attitude was no longer so tough.
"Then you wait here, I'll go find someone right now."
She had barely left when Xu Mocun locked the door.
I'm scared, I'm scared.
Yan Mo left his house and went straight to the address.
This search led them directly to Yan Sui.
Yan Mo stared in disbelief, wishing she could stare two holes through the nameplate.
It is indeed number 36.
"Girl, what are you doing standing at my door? Who are you looking for?" Tian Xiangjuan asked, puzzled.
Yan Mo smiled somewhat reluctantly, "I'm here to see Mr. Xu."
"Oh, he doesn't live here. You've got the wrong place."
Yan Mo hurriedly said, "I asked Grandpa Xu for some calligraphy, but the few pieces he's written now are all for your family. Grandpa Xu asked me to come and ask if you'd sell them."
Tian Xiangjuan suddenly realized that the calligraphy couldn't have been written for her; it must have been for Yan Sui.
"Then come in."
Yan Mo's eyes lit up with joy; it would be best if she could avoid disturbing Yan Sui.
She had absolutely no desire to ask Yan Sui for anything.
"Is that okay? I only need one. As long as the price is right, I can transfer the money immediately."
Tian Xiangjuan didn't reply to her right away, but instead called out into the house, "Sui Sui, someone is looking for you. They're asking if you're selling your calligraphy."
Yan Mo: "..."
