Chapter 29 The Orchard

Chapter 29 The Orchard

Spring rain arrives, and all things come to life.

Yan Sui peered out the window. It had been drizzling all night and only stopped this morning.

She fell asleep listening to the rain last night and didn't even receive a video call from Jiang Yeling.

I accidentally dialed back and quickly hung up.

Jiang Yeling is probably still sleeping at this hour.

Unexpectedly, Jiang Yeling called her back.

"Hey, why are you up so early today?"

Jiang Yeling yawned lazily, "Yan Mo wasn't feeling well yesterday, so we finished work early."

She went to bed early when she got home.

She wondered if it was because she went to bed early and woke up early, but she felt that she was in a great mood this morning.

Full of energy!

"Our crew all want to buy your cherry tomatoes, and we're asking you to post a link."

Yan Sui: "That's all, that's all."

There were only a few tomato seedlings; no matter how capable she was, she couldn't make them bear fruit indefinitely.

We're lucky if we can eat this batch.

Jiang Yeling chuckled, "Didn't you realize this is a business opportunity? I think you have a real talent for farming, why don't you just grow vegetables in the countryside and sell them?"

Yan Sui shook her head vigorously, as if it were an obstacle blocking her way to lie down.

"I'll consider growing vegetables after I've spent all the money in my bank account."

Upon hearing Sui Liyuan's voice, Yan Sui hurriedly went out.

"I'm not going to say anything more. Today I'm going to go up the mountain with my aunt to dig for wild vegetables."

Because it was still cloudy outside, Yan Sui put on a raincoat when she went out.

The raincoat pockets were large enough to fit Sui Sui inside.

Yan Sui will naturally find it useful to carry around.

There aren't many new wild vegetables growing on the mountain right now; most of them have been frozen and don't taste very good.

If you want them tender, they have to be artificially induced to grow on the spot.

Staying in Changqing Village for a while was of great help to her.

If the spiritual energy within her body was a stream before, it has now converged into a river, representing a qualitative leap.

She followed Sui Liyuan all the way to the back of the mountain.

Taking advantage of the fact that it wasn't raining, Yan Sui put Sui Sui down and let it go find shepherd's purse.

Once it's ready, Yan Sui will take Sui Liyuan to dig it up, and then it will go find the next spot.

Yan Sui also clipped an action camera to her chest, so she could easily edit the footage and post it later.

In no time, the basket was full.

They were all tender, fresh shepherd's purse, which surprised Sui Liyuan.

“I go up the mountain to dig shepherd’s purse every year at this time. This year’s shepherd’s purse is the best. We’ll have hot pot tonight, and Auntie will make you a shepherd’s purse dumpling.”

"Great! Auntie's cooking is the best."

Sui Liyuan smiled so much her wrinkles appeared; her daughter was the best.

Unlike her two mischievous monkeys, who stopped being affectionate with her after they grew up.

Once the basket was full, Sui Liyuan took out a bag and waited until the bag was full before preparing to go down the mountain.

This time I really had a blast digging.

"This is the first time I've ever dug up so many wild vegetables."

In a while, we can go up the mountain to pick wild mushrooms again.

Yan Sui pointed to the distance and asked, "Auntie, are there peach blossoms over there?"

Sui Liyuan nodded. "It's peach blossoms. That's your brother Yan Liang's orchard over there."

"Brother Yan Liang?"

"Your great-grandfather's grandson."

Yan Sui suddenly realized that the old man was his elder brother, so it wasn't wrong for her to call him Great-Grandpa.

But she's lived in the village for so long, and it seems like the two families haven't had any contact.

Sui Liyuan then said, "Our family hasn't had any contact with your great-grandfather's family for a long time."

Yan Liang is Yan Weimin's eldest grandson, and he has been good at handling things since he was a child.

He didn't even graduate from vocational school before going out to work with others.

He dabbled in whatever industry was profitable, and later partnered with someone to open a media company, signing some internet celebrities and making a lot of money.

After making money, he said he wanted to help the village develop together, so he contracted 100 acres of land.

Within a few years, the company suffered heavy losses and could not make ends meet, so the orchards and fields were abandoned.

He's having a headache right now, after all, just contracting these places cost him tens of millions.

If he continues to farm this land, he won't make any money; he'll even have to spend money out of his own pocket.

But the land is just lying there abandoned, so all the money he invested is basically wasted.

"So now he's looking everywhere for someone to take over his business."

Yan Sui looked enlightened; so that's how it is.

"Isn't growing peaches profitable?"

Sui Liyuan shook her head; despite their poor relationship, she wouldn't gloat.

After all, making money is not easy for anyone.

"I don't know if it's because of the location, but the peaches in his orchard are always very small, or sour and astringent, or tasteless. No one picks them up, so they just rot on the ground."

Sui Sui patted Yan Sui's trouser leg with her little paws and pointed to the orchard across the street.

"Meow!" I'm going.

Yan Sui then asked, "Auntie, may I go and pick some peach blossoms? I want to make peach blossom wine."

Sui Liyuan nodded, "Okay, let's take the shepherd's purse back first, and then your aunt will take you upstairs to pick peach blossoms."

Although it's an orchard, the peach trees have been neglected for a long time.

Picking a few peach blossoms is nothing.

Yan Sui then followed Sui Liyuan down the mountain.

Just as they passed Fu Yansheng, the door opened.

A light drizzle had started to fall. He was wearing a beige sweater and black pants, which made his skin appear pale and cold.

"Are you going out?" Yan Sui greeted him with a smile.

His eyes widened immediately. "Your boss didn't send you out fishing, did he?"

"What fishing?" Sui Liyuan leaned closer.

Yan Sui: "Auntie, let me tell you, his boss is really mean. He makes him go fishing every day, but he doesn't give him any bait. He's not allowed to eat or go home if he doesn't catch any fish. He has to go out even in wind and rain!"

Fu Yansheng: "..." You should switch careers and write novels.

Qujiang: "..." I heard that!

He didn't want to attend this class at all.

Sui Liyuan shook her head and clicked her tongue. This was too tragic.

"That's why I'd rather take on jobs myself than work for someone else in a shop. None of those bosses are any good."

As he spoke, he spat at Qujiang.

Qujiang: "?"

I didn't do it, I didn't! Don't talk nonsense!

Yan Sui ignored Qu Jiang's mournful gaze and continued talking to Fu Yansheng.

"I'm having hot pot at my house tonight, do you want to come? I dug up a lot of wild vegetables."

Fu Yansheng naturally declined: "No, thank you."

Yan Sui wasn't disappointed; he had the right to be aloof.

"Then I'll bring you some after my aunt finishes making the dumplings."

And, just between you and me, say: "I won't give any to your boss!"

Qu Jiang said softly, "I heard it."

Yan Sui said matter-of-factly, "I won't give you any."

After saying that, he walked away with a proud and arrogant air.

After putting down the shepherd's purse, she followed Sui Liyuan up the mountain again.

"Auntie, should we tell Yan Liang's family?"

Sui Liyuan said, "I've already spoken to your aunt."

This aunt was not Tian Lijuan, but Yan Liang's biological mother, Lu Caizhi.

They only carried one basket up the mountain, and Yan Sui's original intention was not really to pick peach blossoms.

But Sui Sui seemed to have made some discovery, so she came.

There aren't many peach blossoms in bloom yet; there are still many buds on the trees.

Yan Sui suggested, "Auntie, it'll be faster if we pick them separately."

"Okay, I'll pick them here. Don't go too far."

"good."

Yan Sui then carried Sui Sui inside.

Sui Sui led her the way, and they walked all the way to the edge of the orchard. Sui Sui then jumped out of the pocket.

Is this the place?

"Meow!"

Yan Sui placed her palm on the ground. "You mean, there's something down there that's affecting the plants on this hillside, which is why the fruit in the orchard tastes so bad?"

"Meow!" Dig it out and give it to me to eat!

Yan Sui picked it up. "This is someone else's place. You can't just touch it."

Who knows how big the thing Sui Sui was talking about is, or how deep or shallow it's buried?

Sui Sui snuggled against her, acting all cute.

Meow~

Let's buy it and make it ours.

Yan Sui rolled her eyes. "How can I buy such a big orchard? I'm very poor!"

Sui Sui's round, bulging eyes were filled with accusation: she was lying!

Yan Sui clearly has a lot of money in her bank account, enough for her to live comfortably until she's old.

"It will cost a lot of money to acquire this mountain, and I need to save all my money for retirement!"

"Meow meow meow!"

I'll grow lots of strawberries for you, and I'll take care of you.

Yan Sui muttered to herself, "They've all learned to make empty promises now."

She hadn't figured out what to do, but Sui Sui seemed to really want it.

As she hesitated, she heard Sui Liyuan arguing with someone not far away.

Yan Sui hurriedly ran over.

Then they saw an old woman holding Sui Liyuan's hand, calling her a thief.

Sui Liyuan was furious. "What's in your orchard that I could steal? What kind of thief would come here to steal something!"
