General and Minister Reconciliation

Jiang Heng was an examinee who could be bullied by anyone. Exceptionally intelligent, yet he failed the imperial examinations year after year.

Outwardly aloof and proud, his inner world was a desolate wasteland yearning for love. He viewed Zhao Peiming as his last straw, willing to sacrifice himself to gain a stable backer.

Zhao Peiming was a frustrated general, defeated repeatedly. Full of ambition, yet his military funds were constantly embezzled, leaving him powerless to turn the tide. He saw through Jiang Heng's schemes at a glance, but also glimpsed the vulnerability in his eyes.

He didn't want Jiang Heng's forced dedication; he only wanted his willing true feelings. He pulled him out of the mire, teaching him self-love and how to be loved. Then, in a desperate situation, he offered strategies, trained new troops, and together they plotted for the empire.

"This general's head is worth a fortune. Does Lord Jiang want it or not?" Zhao Peiming pressed close, holding a knife in his mouth. Jiang Heng crooked a finger and loosened his sash: "General, how much is your service for one night worth?"

Hints: This is a fictional historical setting with a fictional power structure. All characters have flaws, some very obvious. The power struggle plotline is quite childish and not very intricate. Consider this a small writing practice, which can be read as a lighthearted 'Mary Sue' (Long Aotian) story. Please be tolerant, love you all! Next novel will be Xianxia.
