Chapter 105 A Glimpse of the Eyes, A Thorough Understanding
Yang Xiao and Shen Zhu frowned and exchanged a glance, then looked back towards the door. With a "snap," Jia Ding and his silver spear suddenly appeared before them.
"This, this is..." Shen Zhu was startled by the sight before him. He stared in disbelief at the legendary silver spear, then looked up and said, "This is the general's spear..."
“Yes,” Jia Ding nodded, “a general can never be without weapons.” He smiled and nodded at Yang Xiao, “Isn’t that right?”
Yang Xiao sat on the bed, crossed her arms, glanced at him, and smiled, "How did you get it?"
“You might not believe it,” Jia Ding casually tossed his gun behind the door, “but the moment I entered your tent, I saw your deputy general, Qin Yi, staring intently at your gun.”
“Qin Yi…” This name seemed to awaken many memories for Yang Xiao. She pondered for a long time, then shook her head with a smile and a sigh, “It must have been difficult for Qin Yi and Zhang Ping, who begged Qi Kun with their lives back then.”
Hearing this, Jia Ding tilted his head in confusion, "You can't even protect yourself, how can you pay attention to them?"
Yang Xiao couldn't help but chuckle, then sighed with emotion, "How could you possibly understand the relationship between true comrades-in-arms?"
“I know, General,” Shen Zhu squatted down beside him and looked up to echo Yang Xiao, “I’ve also heard about General Qin Yi. It’s said that he used to work for Zhao Yue, the governor of Yingchuan. Later, because of his outstanding martial arts skills and unwavering loyalty, he was used as a tool by Xiao Yan. And then,” he looked at Yang Xiao expectantly, “he was captured alive by you and brought before our lord.”
“It was the three of us who defeated him together.” Yang Xiao smiled and looked down at Shen Zhu with gentle eyes.
“Yes,” Shen Zhu nodded, “Later, our lord couldn’t bear to kill him, so he released him. General Qin is also a man of loyalty and righteousness. He promised our lord that if he were captured again, he would willingly submit to our lord. Then, in the battle to avenge General Yude, he took the initiative to help you and General Bai recapture Yingchuan and rushed all the way to Hanzhong.”
Seeing how detailed his explanation was, Yang Xiao smiled and nodded, "How do you remember it so clearly?"
"I know everything about you, General." Shen Zhu raised his head confidently, then looked at Yang Xiao's eyes with a hint of timidity.
“Ever since our lord appointed Qin Yi as my deputy general, he and Zhang Ping have become my right and left arms, and neither of them can be missing.” She looked up at the window and sighed, “It must have been really hard on them.”
Shen Zhu followed Yang Xiao's gaze and looked outside. He nodded resolutely, "Once all this is over, I will strive to join your ranks and fight alongside you, just like those two generals."
"You?" Yang Xiao smiled wistfully, patting Shen Zhu on the shoulder. "You're only twelve, younger than Mu Fei was back then. Surpassing them is just a matter of time."
"Really? General?" Shen Zhu's eyes suddenly lit up.
Yang Xiao raised her hand and gently lifted his chin, leaning closer to look into his large, beautiful eyes. She couldn't help but smile softly, a knowing glint in her eyes. "When you see her, you won't need to hide it from her."
"This..." A blush inexplicably flashed across Shen Zhu's face as she looked at Yang Xiao's questioning eyes, "Really?"
Yang Xiao burst out laughing upon hearing this. She reached out and ruffled Shen Zhu's hair. "Sure enough, I could tell." She glanced at Shen Zhu teasingly. "What, you don't believe me?"
"I believe you, how could I not believe you?" Shen Zhu smiled, rubbed his eyes, and stood up. "Thank you, General."
Standing to the side, Jia Ding stared blankly at everything that was happening before him. He looked at Yang Xiao incredulously and asked, "No way, you don't like him, do you?"
Yang Xiao stared at Jia Ding in disbelief, too shocked to utter a single word.
Jia Ding pointed to the gun behind the door, then looked up at Yang Xiao, "I heard this gun was a gift from Bai Ming, how could you..."
Yang Xiao and Shen Zhu exchanged a glance and chuckled softly. Yang Xiao then looked up at Jia Ding and asked, "So, how did you manage to steal this gun right under Qin Yi's nose?"
“That Qin Yi is really something,” Jia Ding frowned and sighed softly. “I was just hiding behind the house, peeking out a little, and he found me.”
Yang Xiao narrowed her eyes with interest. "And then?"
"He asked me a few questions, but didn't ask any details. Knowing that he was going to give you the gun, he didn't say anything more, just told me to take the gun with me and said that he would definitely deliver it to you."
“Qin Yi, he…” Yang Xiao paused, then sighed, “He truly lived up to his name.” She pondered for a moment, then smiled and looked at Jia Ding, “I was wondering how capable you were. It turns out this gun was given to you by Qin Yi.”
Jia Ding wanted to refute something, but was at a loss for words. He could only stand there and look at Yang Xiao with resentment. After staring for a while, he crossed his arms and said, "In that case, I will return it. It is just a weapon."
"You dare!" Before Yang Xiao could say anything, Shen Zhu pointed at Jia Ding with a menacing look.
Yang Xiao looked up at Shen Zhu with a smile, then looked at Jia Ding and gently shook her head, "If I were to lose my weapon and someone came, could the two of you defeat them?"
Jia Ding looked at Yang Xiao jokingly, "You've fallen to such a state, who else could come to your aid?"
"How dare you speak to the general like that?" Shen Zhu, standing to the side, cursed at Jia Ding, unable to contain himself any longer.
Perhaps to confirm Yang Xiao's words, a series of orderly footsteps suddenly came from outside the door.
Yang Xiao's expression immediately turned cold. She placed her hand on the edge of the bed, looked up at the door, and sneered, "Look, they've arrived?"
The commotion outside the door grew louder and louder. Yang Xiao frowned, holding onto Shen Zhu's arm, staring at the door with a furrowed brow, ready to pounce.
"General Bai has arrived!" After a loud shout, the footsteps outside the door stopped abruptly, and a deathly silence enveloped the entire tent.
"What?" Jia Ding and Shen Zhu were stunned in disbelief, but then Yang Xiao snorted coldly, stood up abruptly from the bed, and snatched the ring-pommel sword from Shen Zhu's waist.
Shen Zhu was jolted back by the sudden force, and only after regaining his senses did he raise his hand to stop Yang Xiao, "General!"
The next moment, Yang Xiao kicked the door.
With a "bang," the wooden door was flung open, and the surrounding dust suddenly rose up and then dispersed without a trace.
The morning light burst into the doorway, and time seemed to stand still at that moment.
Bai Ming's slightly furrowed brows and worried expression suddenly appeared before Yang Xiao.
"Ah Xiao..." He murmured barely, his lips barely moving, his eyes brimming with tears, yet he managed to hold them back, not letting a single drop fall.
Yang Xiao felt a sudden pang of pain in her heart, her nose stung, and she almost burst into tears. Bai Ming's image merged with reality in her mind, but she had no time to think much. Before Shen Zhu and Jia Ding arrived, Yao gritted her teeth and pushed Bai Ming directly into the courtyard.
Perhaps because he was completely unprepared, Bai Ming was pushed so hard that he staggered. When he came to his senses, he saw Yang Xiao's fist coming straight at him. He frowned slightly and raised his hand to block, but because he dared not make a move rashly, or because he was no match for Yang Xiao's attack, he retreated repeatedly and fell into a disadvantageous position.
Their eyes met unintentionally, and though they didn't speak, their hearts were already in sync. Bai Ming looked into Yang Xiao's eyes with heartache, seized the opportunity to raise his hand to block her incoming fist, and then pulled it towards his chest, creating a posture of stalemate.
"Ah Xiao..." Bai Ming's voice trembled uncontrollably. He looked up at Yang Xiao with tears in his eyes, and for a moment he didn't know where to begin.
"Bai Ming," Yang Xiao leaned closer to him, pleading and calling out in a sorrowful voice, "Bai Ming, listen to me."
She closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and looked up at Bai Ming with feigned composure. "There is a spy by my side. This is the only chance... You protect our lord, be prepared for the enemy... and wait for me to return."
Tears were about to spill from his eyes, but Bai Ming choked them back, and with red eyes, he sincerely nodded to Yang Xiao, "Okay."
"I'm sorry."
Yang Xiao closed her eyes briefly, then suddenly opened them again. She pushed Bai Ming away, gritted her teeth, and unexpectedly kicked him in the stomach. The force was so great that Bai Ming flew out and collapsed to the ground, while Yang Xiao staggered back, barely managing to steady herself with a wave of her hand.
"General!"
Before the surrounding people could rush over, there was a clang, and Yang Xiao's ring-pommel sword was suddenly drawn from its sheath. The straight and sharp blade flashed with dazzling sunlight and pointed directly at Bai Ming's neck.
The soldiers suddenly formed a circle around Yang Xiao, drawing their swords and pointing them at her. Yang Xiao remained fearless, staring at Bai Ming with a deep-seated hatred, her sword never trembling.
"If you dare to move, I'll kill you right now."
The next moment, she glanced at Bai Ming, sheathed her sword, and walked towards one side of the encirclement.
"Get out of the way." She stared coldly at the soldier with the sword raised in front of her.
The soldier involuntarily took two steps back, his knife trembling slightly, yet he hesitated to put it down. He glanced at Bai Ming sitting on the ground beside him, then at Yang Xiao, who stood firmly before him, and was momentarily at a loss for what to do.
"Put down the knife and let her go." Bai Ming said without turning his head, sitting on the ground. His hand was still clenched gently, as if he were still holding Yang Xiao's hand.
He clenched his fist, let out a long breath, and stood up by pushing himself up. "That's how it is for today. I'll see how long she can hold out."
