Chapter Sixty-Two: Flowing Light Turns a Thousand Times, Meaning Becomes Clear
Bai Ming gently picked up Yang Xiao's hand, which had fallen onto the grass. His lowered eyes were filled with affection and a smile. He gently rubbed Yang Xiao's palm, and a vague, unreal feeling welled up in his heart.
He let out a long sigh and gently traced the characters "吾" (wú), "心" (xīn), "悦" (yuè), and "君" (jūn) with his fingertips on her palm.
His raised fingertips paused slightly before slowly landing in Yang Xiao's palm, "Long time ago," "Already."
Bai Ming gently held Yang Xiao's palm, reluctant to let go for a long time. He looked up at Yang Xiao's sleeping face, couldn't help but sigh with a smile, and gently placed her hand on his cloak.
Just as he was about to let go and get up, a pull suddenly came from Bai Ming's palm, forcefully dragging him back. He looked up in astonishment, only to be met with Yang Xiaoyun's smiling eyes, sinking into them like a drowning man, unable to break free.
"Ah Xiao, you..." A burning sensation instantly filled Bai Ming's face, but he couldn't help but tightly grasp Yang Xiao's hand.
“These words,” Yang Xiao said, taking Bai Ming’s hand and sitting up, leaning closer to him, “I want to hear you… say them to me in person.”
Bai Ming's heart skipped a beat. His eyes flickered, and he held Yang Xiao's hand tightly against his chest as if he had found a treasure.
"Then let me tell you my story from the beginning." Bai Ming closed his eyes, looked intently and deeply into Yang Xiao's eyes, took a deep breath, and said with a smile, "Yu De asked me earlier if I believed in love at first sight. Of course I do, but for me, my feelings for you are not just the flutter of the heart at first sight. Every move you make touches my mind."
He held Yang Xiao's hand, his fingertips unconsciously caressing it a few times. "You have no idea how emotional and excited I was when we met on the battlefield." Memories of the past suddenly flooded Bai Ming's mind, and his eyes filled with smiles as he looked at Yang Xiao. "Since the first time we parted, I have waited for that day for so long, and I have waited for today... for a very long time as well."
Bai Ming lowered his eyes and let out a soft sigh, as if trying to compose himself. He held Yang Xiao's hands in his, taking a deep breath. "I can't explain everything in just a moment," he paused, then looked up at Yang Xiao earnestly. "If you agree, we'll hold hands and wait together for the day when everything settles down." His palms tightened involuntarily. "Ah Xiao, are you... willing to walk with me to that day?"
"Only until that day?" Yang Xiao's eyes revealed a sense of ease and amusement as she gently squeezed Bai Ming's hand. "Then I'm not willing." She smiled at Bai Ming and tilted her head. "If you give me more time, maybe I can consider it?"
The tension in Bai Ming's heart suddenly snapped, his eyes welled up with tears, and his heart pounded wildly.
"I pledge the rest of my life to you, are you willing?"
Yang Xiao also raised her hand and grasped Bai Ming's hand. Her eyes, glistening with tears, were filled with smiles. She looked into Bai Ming's affectionate eyes and nodded vigorously.
It's a deal.
A tear slid down Bai Ming's cheek. He sat down on the ground, smiling as he held Yang Xiao's hand to his chest, his eyes filled with joy and adoration. "Really, Xiao, I've waited so long for this day... I've waited so long."
Yang Xiao's eyes also welled up with tears. She bent down and gently wiped away the tear stains on Bai Ming's face, letting the cloak covering his chest slip down. "How long has it been? Seven years?" She stroked Bai Ming's face, looking at his slightly nodding head, and couldn't help but chuckle. "If you had stayed any later, I'm afraid I would have really fallen asleep."
"You still have the nerve to say that," Bai Ming said, stroking Yang Xiao's fingertips and looking at her with a wronged expression. "The two times I tried to confess to you, you were drunk both times."
Yang Xiao stared at his sparkling eyes and exclaimed in surprise, "Is that so? I've only...drunk twice..."
"At the victory celebration banquet, you grabbed me and asked me if I had a sweetheart," Bai Ming recalled, chuckling softly. "I was stumped by your question, and you even hit me with your head, and then beat me with my sword."
Yang Xiao blushed upon hearing her embarrassing story. She tugged at Bai Ming's hand, "I wasn't drunk back then... wait a minute."
As if suddenly realizing something, she let go of Bai Ming's hand, leaned down abruptly, braced herself against the empty space behind Bai Ming, and pressed him down beneath her. "So you already knew how I felt, didn't you?"
The cloak fell back onto Bai Ming. He was so pressed down by Yang Xiao that he could only support himself with his elbows. Afraid that Yang Xiao would fall, he gently placed his hand on her waist. "Ah Xiao, I..." He was about to look away when Yang Xiao grabbed his chin and forced him to look at her.
There was no anger in her eyes, only grievance and resentment. He felt a pang of sadness and said softly, "I just... didn't dare to speak to you, and I was afraid of missing the opportunity... I'm sorry for making you wait so long."
Before she could finish speaking, Yang Xiao raised her hand and gently pressed it to his lips. "How could I not know?" She looked down into the deep, ocean-like eyes of the man she had loved for seven years, and couldn't help but lean down, plunging into that sea of love.
"Ah Xiao..." Bai Ming's breath quickened unconsciously as he called softly, tilting his head slightly to meet Yang Xiao's movement. Their breaths mingled instantly, becoming one. Bai Ming's hand around Yang Xiao's waist trembled slightly, as if he hesitated for a moment, then gently tightened and wrapped around her waist.
"General Bai! General Lingyu!"
Just as a warm, soft touch touched his lips, a thunderous shout came from not far away. Bai Ming heard a muffled groan and suddenly looked up, only to see Yang Xiao's arms go limp from the shout, causing her to lose her balance and fall straight into Bai Ming's arms.
"Ah Xiao, are you alright?" Bai Ming's hands suddenly tightened, holding Yang Xiao firmly in his arms. Yang Xiao didn't care about anything else, she stood up with Bai Ming's help, and then picked up the cloak that was draped over Bai Ming's legs.
The shouts grew louder as they approached. Yang Xiao glanced back and saw a few torches lit up in the distance. She quickly bent down and pulled Bai Ming, who was sitting on the ground, to her feet. Then, she tiptoed and wrapped the cloak around Bai Ming's neck, tying it haphazardly, almost strangling him.
"Ah Xiao, you...don't you want to see me anymore?" Bai Ming raised his hand and tugged at the knot he had tied, teasingly laughing as he turned to look at the approaching torches, his face full of displeasure as he looked back at Yang Xiao. "They really don't know the time of day. We're still..."
Upon hearing this, Yang Xiao coughed lightly twice. Bai Ming seemed to realize his mistake, and the two blushed knowingly. Yang Xiao took Bai Ming's hand and turned to face the soldiers with torches, "Stop shouting, we heard you!"
Upon hearing the sound, the soldiers hurried over, their shoes rustling on the fresh grass. "Generals, we've finally found you!" The leading soldier clasped his hands in greeting. "We were all worried because you two hadn't returned for so long, so Deputy General Zhang sent us to look for you."
Upon seeing that it was the Eagle Squad, Yang Xiao shook her head with a helpless smile. "They just scouted the terrain and rested outside for a while. What could possibly go wrong?" She glanced back and saw that Bai Ming's eyes still held a hint of displeasure. Then, looking at the soldiers in front of her, she feigned anger and said, "Why make such a fuss over such a small matter? Zhang Ping, right? Make him do extra training tomorrow!"
The two soldiers exchanged a glance, then clasped their hands in pleading, "Deputy General Zhang meant well, General, please let him go?"
Yang Xiao chuckled and nodded at the two of them, "That won't do. One thing at a time. If you're going to plead for him, you two will have to train with him."
“Then you should punish him,” the leading soldier took a step back and looked at Yang Xiao inquiringly, “General, shall we return to camp now?”
Yang Xiao turned around and smiled at Bai Ming, tilting her head slightly. "Shall we go?"
"Okay." Bai Ming looked at Yang Xiao with a smile in his eyes, nodded gently, and as he turned around, he took Yang Xiao's hand gently under the cover of night. Yang Xiao gently rubbed the back of his hand, and then quietly let go when he untied the reins from the tree.
The moonlight spread across the earth like brocade, and the two riders traveled in silence. Yang Xiao looked up at the full moon and couldn't help but chuckle as she sat down on the saddle.
She still remembered that late spring when she and Bai Ming reunited on the battlefield. It was on that full moon night that they talked while gazing at the moon in front of the pavilion, every word filled with affection. But at that time, they never dared to think too much about it.
Thinking of this, Yang Xiao couldn't help but raise her eyes to look at Bai Ming's figure in front of her. She saw that his white clothes looked even more radiant and graceful under the flowing moonlight, and his cloak was also fluttering in the wind, but it was stained with wrinkles.
She spurred her horse forward a few steps, glancing sideways at Bai Ming. The moonlight gently bathed his face, reflecting in his clear eyes. His thoughtful gaze held a mixture of resentment and joy.
"General, we've arrived." The leading soldier waved his torch and looked back at Yang Xiao. "You should also go back to your tent and rest."
Yang Xiao pulled on the reins, dismounted, and smiled as she nodded to the soldiers, "No rush, you go back and pack your bags first, we'll set off early tomorrow morning."
"Yes." The soldiers clasped their hands in a fist salute to Yang Xiao and turned to leave.
Bai Ming dismounted and walked to Yang Xiao's side. "It's getting late. You should go back to your tent and rest early..."
"It's still early," Yang Xiao turned around and waved her hand with a smile. "Let's finish what needs to be done today." She looked up at Bai Ming with a smile. "Would it be convenient for me to sit in your tent for a while?"
