The surroundings fell silent for a moment. Chang Lili looked at Meng Yuxiu with a suspicious gaze and saw Meng Yuxiu's solemn face.
She waved her hand in front of the stunned Meng Yuxiu: "Your mother-in-law finally agreed, you're not going to go back on your word, are you?"
Meng Yuxiu gave a faint smile. He, who was always full of vigor, was somewhat calm at this moment. He said, "No, I said I would support whatever decision you make. If you want to go, I will go with you."
Chang Lili paused, hurriedly looked away, and said with a slightly flushed face, "I don't need you to come with me. You said my mother-in-law is your mother-in-law, so you have to stay and help me take good care of her."
"Will you never come back?" Meng Yuxiu asked pointedly.
Chang Lili immediately bristled: "Of course not, shut your mouth!"
Meng Yuxiu looked innocent: "Then why should I stay? I'll accompany you on this trip, broaden my horizons, and see what this mechanism array is all about."
"No means no!" Chang Lili said firmly, but when she saw Meng Yuxiu looking at her innocently with a surprised expression, her voice softened, "Well, my mother-in-law has already agreed to believe me, so why can't you believe me too?"
Meng Yuxiu, unusually, didn't argue with her and said with a gentle smile, "I believe you."
Chang Lili was finally satisfied and said nothing more. Meng Yuxiu, however, looked at her with doting eyes, secretly plotting his own scheme.
"When will the test begin?" Chang Lili asked expectantly.
Meng Yuxiu didn't see a trace of fear in her eyes. He felt somewhat helpless, but thought that this was how Chang Lili should be.
"Let's wait a while. It's always good to prepare more." Meng Yuxiu's tone was indifferent, but his expression was solemn.
Chang Lili naturally understood his meaning and his good intentions. She smiled and nodded, and her hands moved faster.
As a result, Chang Lili, who had been depressed, rallied and became quite energetic.
No new wounds appeared on her hands, and she was as energetic as the rising sun.
She took out those books on mechanical arts that she had put away in the cabinet to gather dust, and studied them with great interest every day.
Meng Yuxiu took this matter very seriously. He searched for any books on mechanical arts that he could find on the market for Chang Lili.
Chang Lili would study those books at night, and during the day, while forging and repairing weapons at the military workshop, she would occasionally make some small mechanical devices herself.
Life was ordinary, yet full of surprises.
Lu Ming was quite surprised to see her like this and asked her if she and Meng Yuxiu had sparked a new romance.
Chang Lili laughed and scolded her for having no ladylike reserve at all, daring to ask any question.
"What's wrong with that! We're like family, aren't we? If I don't tell you something, who else can I tell you?" Lu Ming leaned against the blacksmith's platform, speaking with a sense of boredom but also as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
Chang Lili's heart stirred. Looking at this girl, he felt a surge of warmth, yet also a pang of sadness.
"I'm going to a place in a while, it's a bit dangerous, I don't know if I'll be able to come back." She suddenly didn't want to hide it from Lu Ming anymore.
"What? Going to some dangerous place? What are you going to do? Are you going to the dungeon again?" Lu Ming turned around and stared at Chang Lili nervously.
Chang Lili was amused by her and said helplessly, "No, I wanted to go this time myself, to do what I wanted to do."
She thought Lu Ming would at least try to persuade her, just like Meng Yuxiu and her mother-in-law. But to her surprise, Lu Ming asked with an expectant look, "Sister Lili, can you take me with you? It sounds so exciting!"
Chang Lili buried herself in her work, saying bluntly, "Impossible."
"Sister Lili! You're so heartless! Is our friendship really that shallow? You can't even grant me such a small request," Lu Ming said, pouting aggrievedly.
Chang Lili glanced at her and said, "Come on, you usually come and go from this military camp. If you disappear for even a little while under your father's nose, he'll search the whole world for you. If I dare to take you out, especially to such a dangerous place, wouldn't I be asking for trouble? Don't make things difficult for me."
Lu Ming sighed and said pitifully, "Then you'd better be careful. I'm just worried about you. Come back safely. I'm still waiting for you to help me find Su Ling."
Chang Li felt a warmth in her heart, yet also a pang of sadness. She realized that this girl was truly deeply in love with Xiao Lingshou, but unfortunately, the two were destined to be apart. That hellish palace would ruin Lu Ming.
So she brought up the old matter again, mentioning Chu Huan, which made Lu Ming so angry that she covered her ears. But coincidentally, Chu Huan's voice came over, saying that Vice President Lu wanted Lu Ming to go back.
Before leaving, Chang Lili lowered her voice and said to Lu Ming, "Your father always asks him to come see you. He trusts him so much. Could it be that he's really planning to marry you off to him?"
Lu Ming raised her head in anger, but couldn't lash out because Chu Huan was standing nearby. She could only glare at Chang Lili before storming off.
Chang Lili laughed heartily.
Not long after Lu Ming left, a man dressed in black appeared beside Chang Lili's blacksmithing platform.
The man, holding a token, walked into the military manufacturing facility with an air of nonchalance, and no one dared to stop him.
But ever since he appeared, everyone's eyes have been on him. Even among men, some people blushed as they looked at him.
But Chang Lili was oblivious to all of this. Focused on polishing the small object, she didn't realize that a pair of captivating phoenix eyes were watching her intently, their gaze relaxed and admiring.
The exquisite object was finished, and Chang Lili held it in her hands with satisfaction, stroking it carefully before turning around to put it away. However, she bumped into someone.
She suddenly looked up and met a pair of bright, sparkling eyes. He had fair skin, a delicate and perfect nose, and bright red lips. The man in front of her was like a masterpiece of heaven. Just by looking at you, you felt that your soul might be stolen away at any moment.
Chu Moyu stood there leisurely, holding a long sword in his arms, with a faint smile on his face, looking at Chang Lili.
Chang Lili abruptly took a few steps back, rubbed her eyes, looked around to make sure she was indeed in the Military Equipment Department, and then asked rudely, "What are you doing here? What are you doing here?"
Chu Moyu gently curled the corners of his lips, raised the long sword in his hand in front of Chang Lili, and said in a clear voice as melodious as a mountain spring: "I heard that Master Chang's skills are very good, so I came here to ask Master Chang to help me repair this sword."
Chang Lili made no attempt to hide her suspicion, and said sourly, "No, no, Commander Chu, with your status, actually came all the way to this dirty and chaotic military workshop just to repair a sword. You could have just sent someone else."
"How can that be? Coming in person shows sincerity." Chu Moyu looked at Chang Lili and said with a light smile.
Chang Lili then noticed that most of the people in the Military Manufacturing Department were frequently casting curious glances at them, and those who were closer showed dissatisfaction when Chang Lili said that the Military Manufacturing Department was "dirty and messy".
