Chu Moyu gripped the sword at his waist, trying his best to calm himself down, but his unsteady voice still betrayed his emotions.
He slowly said, "General Meng, just how much strength are you hiding?"
He looked at Meng Yuxiu, who was completely different from the usual Meng Yuxiu. Normally, whatever he did, he had the majesty of a general, but at this moment, he was like an emperor who controlled the life and death of others. His martial arts were so profound that it seemed as if he was using some kind of sorcery.
Although Chu Moyu's martial arts skills were not top-notch, he was confident that no one in the world could easily kill him. Now, however, he could no longer say that.
Meng Yuxiu smiled contemptuously: "I never intended to hide my strength. It's just that you didn't realize it. And those who did realize my strength are all dead."
As soon as he finished speaking, Chu Moyu felt a sudden burst of chilling killing intent. He darted toward another branch, but Meng Yuxiu seemed to have anticipated his move. Rather than Meng Yuxiu chasing after him, it was more like Chu Moyu deliberately ran into his blade.
If one were to take this blow squarely, even a celestial being would be powerless to save them.
Seeing that there was no way to avoid it, a flash of cold light appeared, and a piercing sound of swords clashing rang out. Chang Lili, who was in Meng Yuxiu's arms, also frowned.
Meng Yuxiu gave a contemptuous sneer and landed back on the ground.
Chu Moyu lost his balance and could only retreat to a branch behind him.
His right hand trembled slightly, and the longsword trembled along with it, the buzzing sound from the blade taking a long time to subside.
His usually nonchalant face now wore a fierce expression, his handsome features tense, revealing a sharp edge.
"It's alright, Deputy Commander Chu can draw his sword at will. A man who is about to die doesn't care whether he keeps his promise or not," Meng Yuxiu said with a sneer.
Chu Moyu knew that Meng Yuxiu truly wanted to kill him, and he would not give him any chance to breathe. He had really touched the devil's sore spot.
He looked focused and gripped the sword tightly. Meng Yuxiu showed a hint of surprise, but also a touch of admiration in his eyes.
Knowing he would die, Chu Moyu still took a gamble; he certainly showed some courage.
Who knew that the dazzling sword dance was not aimed at Meng Yuxiu, but rather appeared out of thin air.
Meng Yuxiu looked puzzled for a moment, then heard the surrounding trees creak and groan. After that, the towering trees around them slowly leaned towards Meng Yuxiu.
This tactic was completely ineffective against Meng Yuxiu; the heavy trees fell slowly.
Meng Yuxiu revealed a disdainful smile, but Chu Moyu also smiled provocatively.
In the next instant, Meng Yuxiu easily leaped up and landed on another open space. Looking up, he found that Chu Moyu's figure had already disappeared into the shadows of the branches and leaves, and could no longer be found.
Meng Yuxiu gripped the dagger in his hand, ready to give chase, his eyes filled with a mixture of murderous intent and resentment.
Chang Lili in his arms let out a soft hum and slowly turned around. He quickly stopped and looked at her.
The murderous intent and resentment in his eyes were swept away like clouds by a raging wind, leaving only a tranquil gentleness after the wind had passed.
Chang Lili opened her eyes with difficulty, feeling dizzy and disoriented. Before she could even see the face of the person in front of her, she heard his concerned voice close at hand: "Are you alright, Lili?"
Chang Lili blinked, and when she saw Meng Yuxiu's face magnified in front of her, she grabbed him like a lifeline, lunged forward, hugged his neck tightly, and screamed in fear with her eyes closed, "So many bugs, Meng Yuxiu! I'm going to die! I'm going to die!"
Meng Yuxiu was taken aback when he heard this. He smiled wryly, hugged her, patted her back gently, and said softly, "It's alright, we're out now."
Chang Lili then looked around and found that they were in the dense forest. The dilapidated house, the straw on the ground, and the crawling insects had all disappeared.
She looked overjoyed and hugged Meng Yuxiu tightly: "I knew you would find me. I have something to do, something really serious. My whole body feels like it's falling apart, and I'm in pain all over."
She finished speaking with a bitter expression and a very aggrieved tone.
But Chang Lili felt Meng Yuxiu's body stiffen for a moment. She released her arm for no reason and saw that Meng Yuxiu's face had turned ashen.
"Um... what's wrong?" She had never seen Meng Yuxiu so angry before, so she quickly waved her hand. "Actually, it's not that serious. I'm much better now. I'll be fine after I go back and rest."
Meng Yuxiu's expression did not improve at all. A horse's neigh came from the woods, followed by the sound of approaching hooves.
A fine horse galloped up in front of the two of them. Meng Yuxiu pursed his lips, picked up Chang Lili without saying a word, and mounted the horse.
Although his face looked pale, his movements were still very gentle.
Chang Lili was completely bewildered. After they settled on their horse, Meng Yuxiu took the reins, wrapped his arms around Chang Lili's chest, and slowly walked out of the forest.
She looked at the outer robe Meng Yuxiu was wearing, feeling a mix of sweetness and shyness.
The road from the outskirts to the general's mansion was long. Along the way, Chang Lili kept trying to talk to Meng Yuxiu, but the latter seemed preoccupied and absent-minded, and his answers to Chang Lili were perfunctory.
"What's wrong? What happened? Are you hurt?" Chang Lili asked, turning her head restlessly to look at Meng Yuxiu.
Meng Yuxiu stretched out an arm and hugged her writhing body tightly, saying, "I'm not hurt."
Chang Lili had no choice but to give up, but she was still puzzled.
Upon arriving at the gate of the General's Mansion, Meng Yuxiu dismounted, and Chang Lili was about to follow suit when she saw Meng Yuxiu immediately turn around and extend his hands towards her.
Surprise flashed in her eyes, and before she could react, her body betrayed her by falling into Meng Yuxiu's arms.
"I'm fine, I can walk by myself..." Before Chang Lili could finish speaking, Meng Yuxiu had already picked her up and carried her into the general's mansion without saying a word.
Chang Lili overheard the whispers of the onlookers outside the mansion: "That's the future general's wife, isn't she? She's just a little girl."
"She's a blacksmith personally appointed by the Emperor, what little girl!"
Chang Lili couldn't help but agree: "Exactly!"
She thought Meng Yuxiu would laugh at her at this moment, but when she looked up, he still had that livid face and was walking very fast as if he were walking on air.
Normally, at this time, the maids and servants in the mansion would definitely come over to watch the excitement and whisper among themselves, mostly talking about Meng Yuxiu and Chang Lili's romantic moments under the moon.
But now, seeing Meng Yuxiu's expression, the maids and servants in the mansion also put away their usual playful manners and lowered their heads to do their work seriously.
Chang Lili swallowed hard and gently tapped Meng Yuxiu's shoulder, causing the latter to turn his head to look at her.
She asked cautiously, "What happened? Don't scare me."
Meng Yuxiu let out a soft breath, forcing a smile that looked more like a grimace: "It's nothing."
Instead of taking her back, he brought her into his room.
Chang Lili blushed and said, "What are you doing? I have to go back quickly, my mother-in-law must be worried."
