Chapter 185 Mechanical Man Formation

No one answered her; there was no one else in the study besides her.

"Lili..." she called out emotionally, turning to walk out of the study.

But in the instant she turned around, her gaze fell upon an imperial edict laid out on the desk.

The word "former dynasty" suddenly caught the mother-in-law's eye. She knew she shouldn't look at it casually, but at that moment she couldn't help but look.

She had never heard of such an imperial edict before. She had never seen one like it since arriving at this mansion. It seemed to be a secret edict.

It clearly states that Meng Yuxiu must do everything in his power to eliminate the remnants of the previous dynasty.

The mother-in-law was stunned for a long time before she came to her senses and walked out with fear in her eyes and face.

She was in a panic, and just as she was about to step out of the study, she bumped hard into someone.

Seeing that her mother-in-law was bumped and about to fall backward, Ke Shou quickly reached out and grabbed her.

"Grandma, what are you doing here?" Ke Shou asked.

The old woman was stunned for a moment, then quickly grabbed Ke Shou's forearms with both hands, her voice trembling with tears, "Guard Ke, please help me find Lili! I just saw her enter here, but I can't find her when I come in. Please help me find her!"

Ke Shou frowned slightly, his gaze quickly sweeping behind his mother-in-law. There was no one else in the study, and he could not sense anyone's presence.

A hint of doubt flashed in his eyes. He lowered his gaze, avoiding looking at his mother-in-law, and said respectfully, "Mother-in-law, you should go back and rest first. You must have seen wrong. Miss Chang and the General went out and haven't returned yet."

“But I clearly saw Lili just now…” the mother-in-law said subconsciously, but when she remembered the secret decree on the desk, her heart tightened and she quickly covered her forehead and said, “It seems that my eyes are really getting old and blurry.”

"You're just worried about Miss Chang, which is why you're having these misconceptions. I'll send someone to take you back to rest. You don't need to worry too much. Miss Chang is traveling with the General, and he will protect her," Ke Shou said.

The mother-in-law said nothing more, followed him away, and nodded.

"Then please, Mother, don't wander around unless necessary. Just rest properly in the courtyard," Ke Shou said, summoning a servant.

His voice carried a hint of coldness, startling the old woman. She dared not say anything more and obediently left.

She used to live in this courtyard, in the general's mansion, and her heart was filled with gratitude and embarrassment.

Later, Chang Lili and Meng Yuxiu fell deeply in love, and she tacitly accepted their relationship. It was only natural for her to live here, especially since Chang Lili had achieved quite a bit, and they weren't just eating and drinking for free.

But now, the mother-in-law's anxiety is growing day by day.

The words on that secret decree were imprinted in her mind, constantly reminding her of the danger. In the middle of the night, she would suddenly wake up with a cold sweat on her back.

Her mind was getting more and more confused. She had originally thought that Meng Yuzheng was upright and reliable, and that Chang Lili had found a home with him, so she was at ease.

She hoped that everything from the past would just fade away with the wind.

But now, everything I don't want to talk about is stirring up trouble.

She felt increasingly uneasy. Neither Chang Lili nor Meng Yuxiu had returned. Before, she worried that the two might have encountered some danger, but now, she felt more and more that Meng Yuxiu was the greatest danger to Chang Lili, and that secret decree was a rope to take their lives.

On the other side.

“If you become such a master, then I’ll be relying on you from now on,” Meng Yuxiu said half-jokingly.

Chang Lili waved her hand and said, "Don't say that, don't say that. I will never forget your kindness, no matter how successful I become in the future."

"The way you're saying this makes me think you're an ingrate," Meng Yuxiu said, sounding quite puzzled.

As the two were talking, they looked ahead. Chang Lili was about to retort when she saw the scene before her and froze.

Many oil lamps on the walls were lit, illuminating the wide passageway. The two could clearly see many martial arts training posts in front of them, crisscrossing and almost filling the passageway.

What's most surprising is that there's a person standing next to each of those martial arts training posts.

They had just encountered Chan'er, and now, looking at the "people" standing beside the martial arts training posts in various postures, with their eyes closed and motionless, they all had their own guesses.

“They… seem to be mechanical beings,” Chang Lili murmured, still somewhat dazed. “I didn’t expect there to be so many mechanical beings hidden here.”

Meng Yuxiu frowned, as if he was worried about something.

Clearly, these mechanical figures, though they looked quite ingenious, were far inferior to Chan'er.

These mechanical figures all looked exactly alike, but they had no hair, no delicate skin, and no refined features. All they had were simple, unadorned clothes and a large, shiny head.

These mechanical figures were made to resemble monks, standing still and looking like martial arts masters who had seen through the illusions of the world.

"Could this be one of the checkpoints?" Meng Yuxiu frowned as he looked at the mechanical figures.

These mechanical figures reminded him of Chan'er. If these mechanical figures had such power, passing this test would be as difficult as ascending to heaven.

Chang Lili stroked her chin and said, "A mechanical formation? Eighteen Arhats? Could these mechanical figures be blocking our way? But the formation doesn't seem to have been triggered yet. Does that mean we can get through safely if we don't trigger the mechanism?"

“But the trigger for the formation should be very simple. It would be best to find a way to break the formation,” Meng Yuxiu pondered.
