The long sword was held by a man in black, whose exposed eyes were filled with a bloodthirsty light. He walked toward Consort Lan with the sword in hand.
Lan Fei's mind went blank; she even forgot to call for help, and just kept shrinking deeper into the bed.
The longsword was still dripping blood when the man walked forward unhurriedly, a hint of mockery in his eyes, as if he were a hunter who was deliberately toying with his prey.
He walked to the bedside, picked up his long sword, and thrust it at Consort Lan, but his movements were slow.
Consort Lan was so frightened that her face turned ashen. Finally, she came to her senses from the fear and rolled off the bed in a disheveled state. She knelt down beside Xiangyu's body, her clothes stained with Xiangyu's warm blood.
Seeing Xiangyu's eyes, which remained open even in death, she trembled and said, "You...you don't blame me, it wasn't me who hurt you!"
As she spoke, she got up and ran towards the palace gate. The man in black turned around and looked at her with a sinister gaze. He chased after her, drew his sword, and slashed, leaving a gash on Consort Lan's shoulder.
The blood stained her plain clothes bright red. Consort Lan screamed, but she ignored the pain and continued to run outside while clutching her wound.
The man in black seemed to find it amusing, and slashed a long gash in her back. Lan Fei screamed and collapsed to the ground, writhing in excruciating pain. She didn't even have the strength to stand up.
Who wanted to kill her? She didn't know.
After all, during her years as a concubine, she had offended at least thirty, if not fifty, people.
"Don't kill me, don't kill me! I can give you anything you want. I'm a royal concubine... I can give you money..." She was in so much pain that she couldn't stand up and could only crawl outside the palace gate.
Just as Consort Lan was about to climb out of the palace, the man in black had had enough fun. He raised his long sword and stabbed at Consort Lan's back.
Consort Lan heard a sound of something hard collapsing behind her, and she was so frightened that her soul almost left her body. Then she saw another dark figure flash past her eyes and disappear into the palace.
She sat on the ground, covered in blood, almost sobbing. Turning her head, she saw another man in black appear out of nowhere, but he wasn't there to kill her; he was there to save her.
Two men in black, each wielding a long sword, were locked in combat. The clash of swords was so intense that Lan Fei couldn't understand what was happening. However, she was pleased that the man in black who had come to her rescue was clearly gaining the upper hand.
The person who tried to kill her was no match for her; he was quickly stabbed and cut several times.
Although her own wounds were in great pain and bleeding profusely, she felt a sense of satisfaction seeing the person who had injured her in such a disheveled and wounded state, and a cold smile curled at the corner of her mouth.
The man in black who wanted to kill her was clearly not giving up. Seeing that he couldn't defeat her, he turned his attention to her, intending to stab her to death with a sword. Unfortunately, the people who came to rescue Consort Lan were far more skilled than him, and he had no chance at all.
Suddenly, a voice came from outside the hall: "Oh dear, what's going on? Quickly, go and call the guards!"
Consort Lan turned her head to look outside the palace gate and saw Eunuch Guangde coming with several maids, probably to bring her something. He was terrified by the sight of several palace maids lying on the ground with arrows piercing their hearts.
After instructing someone to find the guards, Eunuch Guangde hurriedly rushed into the palace, urgently calling out, "Your Majesty! Consort Lan!"
The two fighters who were still fighting in the hall stopped, clearly neither of them wanted to be discovered.
The assassin immediately stopped his attack and rushed out of the palace without hesitation, startling Eunuch Guangde, who was about to enter, so much so that he fell to the ground, his hat askew.
Watching the man in black run away, his long sword still dripping blood, he was too frightened to utter a sound. After a while, he struggled to get up.
But just as he regained his footing, another dark figure rushed out, and he was so frightened that he fell to the ground again, his face turning pale.
"What...what's going on?!" he said with a mournful face.
The palace maids following behind him screamed in fright. However, the sharp-eyed maids noticed that the figure behind him was tall and handsome, as upright as a pine tree, and was truly pleasing to the eye.
Eunuch Guangde picked up the hat that had fallen to the ground and put it back on. He walked into the hall with a heavy heart. He thought he would see Consort Lan's corpse, but to his surprise, Consort Lan was still alive, but she was covered in blood, which looked shocking.
He quickly stepped forward to help her up: "Consort Lan, how are you? Are you alright?"
Whether it was the pain from her wound or the shock she had just experienced, Consort Lan whimpered.
"Imperial Physician! Quickly summon the Imperial Physician!" Eunuch Guangde shouted, almost hoarse.
The assassin was clearly seriously injured and shouldn't have gone far, but the guards searched thoroughly for a long time without finding anything.
Chu Moyu dared not return to his residence for fear of being seen, so he wore a black mask and went to the Imperial Garden.
The guards had all gone towards the Cold Palace, so there shouldn't be anyone here now. But as soon as he took off his face mask, he turned around and saw Xiao Shu'er looking at him suspiciously, standing in the Imperial Garden.
He narrowed his eyes slightly and saw that Xiao Shu'er was followed by a maid. She said something and the maid withdrew. She walked towards him alone with a disdainful smile on her face.
"Isn't this Commander Chu? Why isn't Deputy Envoy Chu inspecting and training the Imperial Guards? What are you doing here, doing things that can't be seen in the light of day?" Xiao Shu'er looked incredulous.
Chu Moyu said coldly, "You'd better forget what you saw, or I can't guarantee what the consequences will be."
It's always like this," Xiao Shuer clenched her fists, filled with resentment.
Chu Moyu is clearly just a pretty face; he has nothing, yet he always disregards her, the princess. In the whole world, even Meng Yuxiu has never spoken to her like that, showing her no respect and being so rude.
Xiao Shu'er snorted coldly: "Vice Envoy Chu, didn't you think about the consequences of speaking to me like that?"
Chu Moyu frowned, seemingly unwilling to pay attention to her, and turned to leave.
Xiao Shu'er stomped her feet in anger, and walked faster than Chu Moyu, saying quickly, "I'll go tell my brother right now that Vice Envoy Chu is dressed like that and is plotting something."
She hadn't taken more than a few steps when she was pulled back. The man dragged her behind the artificial hill, pressed one hand against her shoulder, and forced her against the hill, unable to move.
"What are you doing?" Xiao Shu'er shouted sharply.
Chu Moyu's hair was as black as ink, and there was a thin layer of glistening sweat on his forehead, making his fair skin seem almost translucent. His breath was fragrant, his face was slightly flushed, and his incomparably handsome face was captivating without him even making a sound.
He moved closer to Xiao Shu'er, his warm breath brushing against her face. She quickly turned her face away, but the breath still landed on her ear, making her ear itch and turn uncontrollably red.
"Guess what I'm going to do," he said slowly, his breath falling on Xiao Shu'er's ear.
Xiao Shuer quickly turned her head back, her eyes wide, her cheeks flushed uncontrollably, and her breathing became erratic.
"Let me go." She struggled, and the long sword in Chu Moyu's hand fell to the ground. He grabbed her hands with his other hand, and she kicked him. He then raised one of his long legs and directly blocked her legs.
