The assassin's senses were far sharper than the two women's, and he immediately discerned the sounds outside that three or four people had arrived, and they were no ordinary people!
The assassin's confusion vanished instantly. He fiercely seized Bai Cha, pushed open the window, and forced Bai Cha to climb out.
There must be his accomplices outside. Chang Lili only saw Bai Cha being hooked by something. She stepped forward and grabbed the assassin's arm, but before she could do anything, she suddenly lost her balance and was pulled away by the iron arm!
This is the second floor! Even if Chang Lili is brave, a fall like this would still cause serious injury!
At the same time, there was a knock on the door.
The assassin's eyes flashed with murderous intent. He drew his scimitar and immediately jumped out of the window, using the scimitar to hook onto the roof. In a flash, he was grabbed by a hand!
Looking down, I was surprised to see Chang Lili being pushed out!
The assassin cursed at her fiercely, probably trying to get her to let go. Chang Lili wasn't stupid; she knew he couldn't free his hands, so she gripped the assassin's left hand tightly.
Just as the two were locked in a stalemate, the door was kicked open!
The people on the roof urged him a few times, and the assassin panicked, pulling Chang Lili up with him before Meng Yuxiu could enter!
Chang Lili had just stood firm on the rooftop and hadn't even seen where Bai Cha was when she was dragged along and scrambled across the roof tiles!
Soon after, a lithe figure emerged from the window where they had just been standing. It was Meng Yuxiu, with several bodyguards behind him.
Across the bustling traffic and the faint sounds of laughter and music, a stark contrast to the tense atmosphere upstairs, two groups of people stood separated by the long beams of Wenxiang Pavilion. They walked on softly, their voices gentle, while their gazes were icy, as if reflecting the gleaming swords in their hands.
Chang Lili had three assassins, along with Bai Cha, who was also being held hostage, making a total of five people. Meng Yuxiu's side only had two people, but the assassins were clearly afraid of Meng Yuxiu who had caught up so quickly. They held knives to Chang Lili and Bai Cha, giving Meng Yuxiu a warning look, and retreated step by step.
"If you don't want them to die, don't move!"
Meng Yuxiu and Chang Lili exchanged a glance, their eyes fixed intently on the group. Meng Yuxiu said, "Release them, and I can let today's matter go."
"Heh." The barbarian said something incomprehensible, which probably meant "even heroes can't resist the charms of a beautiful woman." He pulled Bai Cha in front of him and warned, "General Meng, if you want to save your sweetheart, come to the City God Temple on the outskirts of the city alone."
Then, with a "crash," Meng Yuxiu kicked up the tiles under his feet, and with a flash of cold light, he shattered all the flying tiles. The people on the roof had already taken advantage of this brief moment to escape.
Just as Meng Yuxiu was about to give chase, a gasp came from downstairs.
A maidservant peered out of an open second-floor window, crying out in panic, "Assassin!—"
Panic ensued, with shouts echoing everywhere. The soldiers stationed downstairs also spotted several dark figures upstairs and quickly went on alert.
Upon seeing this, Meng Yuxiu and the others disregarded the chaos and covered their faces, chasing after the direction in which the assassin had disappeared.
The prefect, who was in Wenxiang Pavilion, rushed to the room where Bai Cha had been, protected by his guards. Bai Cha was gone; the assassins had escaped on the street. Enraged, he shouted, "Investigate! Seal off the city! I want to see who has the audacity to do this! Did you see what those assassins looked like? Draw sketches of everyone upstairs and everyone who wrote the couplet! Search the entire city! Investigate everyone in Wenxiang Pavilion!"
Meanwhile, Bai Cha, who was taken hostage, and Chang Lili, who was also taken hostage, were nowhere to be found.
All they remembered was that halfway there, the assassin seemed to find them in the way and knocked them both unconscious. When they regained consciousness, it was still pitch black all around them.
Chang Lili tentatively moved, only to find herself lying on a cold, hard surface, her hands and legs bound, unable to move at all.
"White tea?" Chang Lili called out tentatively.
A faint noise came from the side. Chang Lili tried to adjust to the darkness to make out the sound and confirmed that Bai Cha was right next to her, but was still unconscious.
I breathed a sigh of relief.
The assassin intended to use Bai Cha to threaten Meng Yuxiu; Chang Lili was merely an afterthought. If Bai Cha didn't stay with her, no one could guarantee Chang Lili's safety.
Of course, no one can guarantee that their lives are still in the hands of the assassin.
They only washed dishes; they had no major grudge against Meng Yuxiu.
Chang Lili groped her way to Bai Cha's side, trying to wake the girl up. She shuffled on the ground like a silkworm, but as soon as she touched Bai Cha's face, Bai Cha flinched back and said coldly, "Have some self-respect."
"You're awake?"
"Keep your voice down, they're outside." The two were very close, and Bai Cha smelled the faint fragrance emanating from Chang Lili, and frowned slightly.
Upon hearing her words, Chang Lili immediately dared not move. Her neck was still aching. Fortunately, the chaos at the time meant that the assassins wanted to keep one more bargaining chip and did not take advantage of the confusion to kill her.
Thinking back to the time she woke up with her head still on her neck, Chang Lili felt both scared and relieved.
"What is your relationship with Meng Yuxiu?"
It was Bai Cha who asked this question.
Chang Lili was taken aback by the question.
How did she know?
"Just now upstairs, the person who chased after us was Meng Yuxiu, right? He didn't look at anyone else, but he glanced at you alone. There's a deeper connection between you two."
Bai Cha's calm voice made Chang Lili swallow hard, feeling that Bai Cha's words were a bit strange.
Bai Cha then said, "Your accent isn't local. You're not lying when you say you're not from Duanzhou. So you came here with Meng Yuxiu."
Chang Lili said, "Miss is intelligent, but let's talk about these things later. We should think about how to get out now, because the people outside are barbarians!"
Bai Cha also held her breath. In the dimly visible light, one could see her delicate eyebrows furrowed slightly, suggesting that she was also helpless in the face of the current situation.
They didn't know where they were, they couldn't even see their surroundings clearly, and they didn't know how many people were outside.
Chang Lili asked, "Can you understand the language of the barbarians?"
Bai Cha said, "People in Duanzhou can understand some of it, and there are quite a few people from other ethnic groups coming and going here."
"What did they say to you at Wenxiang Pavilion?"
Bai Cha paused for a moment, then said, "They told me to bring Meng Yuxiu here."
The barbarian's exact words were: "You are Meng Yuxiu's woman? Do you think Meng Yuxiu would risk his life for you?"
Upon hearing this, Chang Lili asked, "Then what is your relationship with Meng Yuxiu?"
Bai Cha retorted, "You're Meng Yuxiu's man, don't you know that?"
Seeing that the timing wasn't right, Chang Lili put aside her own plans and said, "Let's talk about it later. Let's figure out how to get out first. We can't wait for someone to come and rescue us."
