Chapter Eight: I Want Her Dead

"So, you accidentally helped General Meng?" The old woman asked, half-believing. "But how could you solve something that even General Meng couldn't handle?"

Chang Lili had thought about this question before, but now that her mother-in-law had brought it up again, she was quite defiant: "Mother-in-law, don't underestimate me! I'm very capable too! Everyone in this world has their strengths and weaknesses. Besides, even a tiger can be bullied by dogs when it's down on its luck!"

The mother-in-law was both amused and exasperated: "You silly girl..."

"Oh dear, Grandma," Chang Lili pouted, "I was clearly right."

"Alright, alright, you're right." Faced with Chang Lili's coquettish behavior, the mother-in-law had no choice but to earnestly remind her, "Although you helped the general, he also saved us today. If you want to help the general, you still have to do your best."

Chang Lili nodded repeatedly: "I understand, Grandma."

The mother-in-law looked at Chang Lili, a complex emotion flashing in her eyes: "Ali has grown up..."

The atmosphere suddenly became somber. Chang Lili keenly sensed the difference and looked up to see her mother-in-law looking at her with a loving expression.

Did she misjudge?

Chang Lili looked puzzled, scratched her head, and ultimately didn't ask the question.

Just then, a maid came in from outside. "Miss, the doctor has arrived and is waiting outside. Please take a look..."

Chang Lili quickly said, "Please come in!"

As for Xiao Shu'er, when the assassin risked his life to deliver the news to her, she angrily smashed a set of fine porcelain.

"A good-for-nothing who's good for nothing but causing trouble!" Xiao Shu'er cursed angrily, her eyes bloodshot. "Go, have someone chop that good-for-nothing up and feed him to the wolves!"

The palace maid, used to this, quickly agreed.

Xiao Shu'er waved her hand again: "Send someone to check on the situation at the General's Mansion."

Before long, news from the General's Mansion reached Xiao Shu'er's ears.

"He actually brought that slut back to the mansion!" Xiao Shu'er was so angry she wanted to grind her teeth to powder.

She finally managed to get Chang Lili to leave the General's Mansion, but Meng Yuxiu did the opposite.

Could it be, as the rumors say, that he really likes Chang Lili?

Upon realizing this possibility, Xiao Shu'er's eyes turned cold, and with a "rip," the fine silk handkerchief in her hand was torn in two.

"Chang, Li, Li!" Xiao Shu'er enunciated each word clearly, "You actually dare to pester my Brother Meng."

The eldest princess was spoiled and domineering, and when she lost her temper, she couldn't stand anyone. The maids serving her were all silent at this moment, except for her personal maid, Bai Mei, who dared to speak up.

"Princess, please don't hurt your hand," Bai Mei took the handkerchief from Xiao Shu'er's hand. "Why hurt yourself for a vile woman?"

"Go find someone else! This bitch must die! Brother Meng is mine, and no one can take him away!" Xiao Shu'er was hysterical with anger. "Don't bring me any more of that trash, or I'll chop you all up and feed you to the dogs!"

Bai Mei calmly said, "Princess, please don't get angry. Once she's been brought into the General's Mansion, it will be difficult to do anything to her again. Not to mention, if General Meng finds out, it will be hard to handle the situation."

"Why not kill her and keep her around for the New Year? Just thinking about her living under the same roof as Brother Meng makes me feel disgusted!" Xiao Shu'er swept the delicate teacups off the table and onto the floor, still trembling with anger.

"Why not ask the Emperor to grant you and General Meng a marriage? The Emperor dotes on you so much, what request could he possibly refuse?" Bai Mei suggested.

Xiao Shu'er hesitated. It wasn't that she hadn't asked her elder brother, the Emperor, for a marriage decree, but Meng Yuxiu had refused multiple times. Her brother had even kept the news under wraps to prevent it from spreading and causing her, as the eldest princess, to lose face.

Thinking about this, Xiao Shu'er deflated like a punctured balloon, annoyed but speechless.

Bai Mei looked at her with a puzzled expression.

"This doesn't conflict with my goal of getting rid of that little bitch," Xiao Shu'er said, her voice lacking confidence.

"Princess, if you enter the General's Mansion, are you afraid you won't have time to deal with that little slut? The Emperor has bestowed you upon him in marriage, something that others would beg for. Besides, the Emperor's word is law, how could General Meng refuse?" Bai Mei coaxed patiently.

Xiao Shu'er felt that what she said made sense. As the eldest princess, she was the most favored by everyone. Who wouldn't be grateful for a marriage decree? Marrying Meng Yuxiu would only bring him benefits and no harm.

She made a quick decision, gritted her teeth, and headed towards the Qianqing Palace.

She was determined to get the Emperor to issue an imperial decree to grant them marriage, and then move into the General's Mansion to get rid of that shameless woman who was clinging to Meng Yuxiu.

The Qianqing Palace was filled with the faint scent of sandalwood. The Emperor sat at his desk, his brows slightly furrowed, reviewing piles of memorials.

Suddenly, someone burst in. The palace maids and eunuchs guarding outside the palace couldn't stop them. They all rushed into the hall and knelt down on the ground.

Before the palace maids and eunuchs could even beg for mercy, Xiao Shu'er walked up to the Emperor and called out in a coquettish tone, "Brother Emperor..."

The Emperor immediately waved for the palace maids and eunuchs to leave, making it easier for Xiao Shu'er to speak.

"The matter hasn't been resolved?" The Emperor smiled instead of being angry, looking at Xiao Shu'er with a leisurely air.

He and Xiao Shu'er are quite different in age; upon closer inspection, they don't look like a younger sister, but rather like father and daughter.

The late emperor had this princess in his later years, and she was his only princess. Naturally, he cherished her dearly. On his deathbed, he repeatedly instructed the emperor to take good care of his only sister.

The Emperor did not disappoint the late Emperor's expectations. He not only bestowed upon Xiao Shu'er the title of Princess, but also indulged her every whim, allowing her to do as she pleased.

He knew that Xiao Shuer's visit must be for the woman in Meng Yuxiu's residence.
