Chapter Ninety-Four: The First General of Yun Kingdom

After the two had finished their commotion, the carriage fell silent again.

Before long, the carriage stopped, and Ke Shou's voice came from outside: "General, we have arrived."

Chang Lili was shocked, her face burning, and she immediately got off Meng Yuxiu.

Unexpectedly, Meng Yuxiu acted even faster, getting up and getting off the carriage first.

Chang Lili was a little confused. Just a moment ago, she felt her heart overflow with sweetness, but now she felt like she had been doused with a bucket of cold water.

When she dejectedly lifted the carriage curtain, she saw Meng Yuxiu standing beside the carriage, reaching out his hands to her.

What is he trying to do? Chang Lili stood there stunned, thinking that one hand would be enough to help someone up, but the way he looked at the moment was as if he was waiting for her to fall into his arms.

She looked troubled, and before she could say anything, Meng Yuxiu suddenly grabbed her hand.

She fell forward uncontrollably, followed by a dizzying spin.

When she caught her breath and looked around, she found herself being carried horizontally in Meng Yuxiu's arms.

Meng Yuxiu seemed completely oblivious to the inappropriateness of his actions, and walked calmly toward the open gate of the mansion.

Chang Lili was startled and quickly looked at the mansion gate and the long street outside. Fortunately, no maids or servants came out to greet her at the mansion gate, and there were few people on the long street.

"Put me down!" Chang Lili whispered, struggling to jump down. "It's not appropriate to do this in public!"

Meng Yuxiu remained unmoved, saying with a contented expression, "What's inappropriate about it? I didn't expect you to have a time when you felt it was inappropriate. You made outrageous remarks at the banquet hosted by the Empress. Now that it's a done deal between us, shouldn't we do something to make it official?"

"Huh?" Chang Lili was a little confused. "To confirm the matter?"

As they spoke, they entered the General's Mansion. The once quiet mansion suddenly erupted into a commotion. The maids and servants who had been nowhere to be seen before suddenly appeared out of nowhere, peeking at Meng Yuxiu and Chang Lili with knowing smiles and whispering among themselves.

Chang Lili's face immediately turned tomato red. Although she had been working outside since she was very young, this was the first time she had experienced something like this.

She covered her face and collapsed weakly into Meng Yuxiu's arms.

Meng Yuxiu couldn't help but laugh at first, then immediately straightened his face and said coldly to the maids, servants, and kitchen women, "Are you all so idle that you have nothing better to do?"

Everyone dispersed immediately, but kept turning back to look, it seemed this would become a new topic of conversation among the servants of the general's mansion.

"What if this gets back to my mother-in-law's ears!" Chang Lili said in a muffled voice, covering her face.

Meng Yuxiu smiled and said, "Wouldn't it be better if it reached Mother-in-law's ears? That way she would know what happened, and I wouldn't have to tell her anymore."

Chang Lili pondered for a moment, then looked up, her face still flushed. She asked in confusion, "Wh...what do you mean?"

Meng Yuxiu said with some trouble, "You are very smart, but why do you always seem to be clueless about some things?"

Chang Lili stared at him with wide eyes, and his starry eyes also stared straight at Chang Lili, their naked and undisguised affection clear to anyone who saw it.

She understood perfectly well. It was just that everything happened so suddenly that she felt it was all unreal.

She used to be just an ordinary girl who wandered around trying to make a living. She never thought that one day she would be like this, not only having the opportunity to do what she liked, but also getting married to the great general who was second only to the emperor.

Chang Lili reached out and pinched her face; it hurt a little. Everything was real.

At the Empress's banquet, Consort Lan's words were sharp and sarcastic. She intended not to take them to heart, but the disparity in status between Meng Yuxiu and her was a fact.

Can she really marry Meng Yuxiu?

Thinking this, she lowered her head, her expression somber.

Meng Yuxiu frowned slightly as he looked at her. By this time, they had already entered the room. The servant who came in to serve them was dumbfounded as he watched Meng Yuxiu carefully place Chang Lili on the bed.

"Go and fetch a doctor," Meng Yuxiu instructed.

The servant hurriedly responded and ran out of the house.

"What's wrong?" Meng Yuxiu asked gently as he sat on the edge of the bed.

Chang Lili immediately perked up and shook her head. She gently touched her neck, forced a smile, and said, "I was just thinking about how to explain this to my mother-in-law."

"So you do know how to worry. Don't think about it for now. We'll wait for the doctor to arrive and hear what he has to say." Meng Yuxiu got up, poured a cup of tea, and handed it to her.

Chang Lili was flattered and hesitated for a moment before accepting it.

"What? Afraid I'll poison you?" Meng Yuxiu sat down and looked at her with amusement.

Chang Lili said in an exaggerated tone, "You are the number one general in our Yun Kingdom. You are always the one who is served tea and water. Today, I am honored to drink tea served by General Meng!"

Meng Yuxiu was amused by her and said without any modesty, "I thought you didn't know I was the number one general of Yun Kingdom, but when have you ever treated me as a general?"

Chang Lili looked away and pretended to drink water without saying a word.

“But this time it was my fault. I failed to protect you. I arranged for you to be in the military manufacturing department, but I forgot to clean up the scum there first,” Meng Yuxiu said remorsefully.

Chang Lili quickly put down her teacup and said, "No, no, no, this is not your fault. You saved me this time, and I already owe you so much. How can I blame you?"

Meng Yuxiu leaned closer to her and said with a smile, "If you hadn't risked your life on the hunting grounds that day, I would have been a skeleton long ago. What do you owe me?"
