One moment she was focused on her work, seemingly oblivious to everything around her, and the next she deftly shoved the half-finished nine-section whip under the table and ran off.
But she didn't expect that as soon as she turned around, the young blacksmith who had been watching her for a long time would sneak up to her forging table, his eyes darting around nervously as he looked around.
Chang Lili's current status is special, and everyone is paying close attention to her. Naturally, the blacksmith's approach has been noticed by many people.
He was also concerned, and chuckled, revealing a roguish smile as he looked at those people.
Once those eyes had turned away, he casually leaned down and looked down at the blacksmith's platform. There, on a pile of tools that was piled up like a small mountain, lay a nine-section whip that was more than half finished.
His face lit up with joy, and while he looked around warily, he reached for the nine-section whip.
Unexpectedly, the nine-section whip was so sharp that when he reached out to grab it, he felt a sharp pain in his fingers and his whole body almost trembled. When he looked down, he saw that his palm was bleeding profusely.
He cursed under his breath, sweat beading on his forehead. He casually wiped the blood from his hands onto his body and carefully gripped the handle of the nine-section whip again.
"Who are you? What are you doing?" Chang Lili's voice suddenly rang out from behind, startling the person.
The man froze, wanting to pull his hand back, but then felt unwilling. His eyes darted around for a moment, and he finally let go, thinking there would be plenty of opportunities later.
A lewd smile spread across his face: "Miss Chang, I just think you're amazing. I've heard that the weapons you forge are very special, so I'd really like to see them."
Chang Lili frowned at him, then raised an eyebrow and said rudely, "Look? Is that how you look? Sneaking around like that, are you feeling guilty?"
She walked to the blacksmith's platform, squatted down, and looked down at the nine-section whip. It was still lying there safely, and she breathed a sigh of relief.
He carefully examined the nine-section whip and was shocked to find scattered bloodstains on it.
She turned her head to look at the man inquisitively and found that he had his hands behind his back, but his body was clearly stained with blood.
"You just tried to steal the weapon I forged?" she asked with a sneer.
The foundry shook his head vigorously: "No, absolutely not! I was just curious and wanted to see."
Chang Lili didn't want the nine-section whip to be exposed to everyone's view, but when she remembered that the nine-section whip had been stolen before, and her mother-in-law had been lying at the entrance of the forging furnace all night with internal injuries, a raging fire burned in her heart.
This person has ulterior motives; he might be the one who hurt my mother-in-law before.
"You won't admit it? I saw it with my own eyes, what else do you have to say!" Chang Lili's voice suddenly rose.
The blacksmith, however, remained composed and vehemently denied it: "I already said I was just curious, Miss Chang. We're both from the Military Manufacturing Department, practically colleagues. Why are you so eager to fight me when we're from the same root?"
"We are all of the same origin, why are you so eager to harm each other? Ha!" Chang Lili sneered, "You dare to say such things? Who sent you?"
By this time, onlookers were frequently casting curious glances at her. Chang Lili did not want to act so ostentatiously, as it would greatly affect her work on the nine-section whip.
Chang Lili took deep breaths to calm herself down.
"Miss Chang, what are you saying? I was just taking a look at the weapons you made, do you have to be so aggressive?" The man raised his voice, seemingly convinced that Chang Lili had no evidence against him.
This would only escalate the situation, and Chang Lili suddenly came up with a plan.
She crossed her arms and asked calmly, "Is your hand injured?"
The man immediately said, "I was forging iron just now and accidentally pricked my hand. Miss Chang, are you really so concerned about me?"
Chang Lili shuddered, her skin crawling, and couldn't help but roll her eyes: "Stop trying to glorify yourself."
The man remained unperturbed, chuckling shamelessly, "If there's nothing else, I won't bother Miss Chang any longer."
Seeing that he was about to leave, Chang Lili remained calm and said leisurely, "Didn't you want to see the weapons I made? Did you see them just now? How were they?"
The man assumed Chang Lili was a show-off and complimented her, "Miss Chang's skills are naturally impeccable, and this is also novel and unique."
Chang Lili revealed a disdainful smile, then suddenly lowered her voice and said mysteriously, "I'm not asking how my weapon looks, but how it feels to be stuck in your hand. It will kill you!"
The man paused for a moment, then smiled and said, "What are you saying, Miss Chang? I'm understanding less and less."
Chang Lili said with a smile, "Do you know that there is a material for making weapons called Jade Rock? It is an excellent material for forging weapons, but it is very rare. Do you know why?"
"Since it's a good thing, it's bound to be scarce, and not everyone can get it. Miss Chang, I haven't finished my work yet, I have to go back." After saying that, the man turned to leave.
"You haven't heard of this? Then you'd better listen carefully, otherwise it wouldn't be a good thing to lose your life for nothing," Chang Lili said loudly.
Chang Lili spoke with such conviction that the man finally felt uneasy and turned around to ask, "What does Miss Chang mean?"
She smiled and said, "Because this material called Yuyan is extremely poisonous. Once it cuts through a person's skin, the toxin will seep into the blood, and the person will die within two days from intestinal perforation."
She said this with a sigh, leaving the man somewhat bewildered.
"You...you're talking nonsense. What kind of strange thing is this? You're trying to scare me." As a blacksmith, he had considerable experience and was confident that such a thing could not exist in this world.
Chang Lili shrugged and said indifferently, "Believe it or not, I'm just stating the facts. What you do has nothing to do with me."
Her appearance made the man somewhat flustered.
The man was inwardly bewildered, but he burst into laughter, drawing the attention of everyone around him, including several experienced craftsmen.
"It's hilarious, really hilarious! Chang Lili said there's some kind of material on this island, called something like... rock, if it scratches a person's skin, that person will be poisoned and die from intestinal perforation! Isn't that funny?"
Chang Lili could clearly sense that this person was already lacking confidence, and that he was only saying these words because he was afraid and wanted to seek confirmation from everyone.
A buzzing of whispers arose. Although no one dared to disrespect Chang Lili now, there were still suppressed laughs and sighs.
"Master Chang must be joking. There's no such thing."
"Exactly, if we have this thing, why don't we use it to forge weapons?"
"Looks like I'm still too young, always thinking about things that are completely unrealistic."
Upon hearing this, the blacksmith chuckled. His earlier panic vanished, replaced by a gleeful expression of anticipation.
Chang Lili let out a breath, thinking that these people were really short-sighted and ignorant. Just as she was about to say something in rebuttal, she heard a cold, hard voice: "Are you talking about Yu Yan?"
The blacksmith, with a lewd smile, said with a grin, "Ah, yes, that seems to be the name she mentioned."
After he finished speaking, his smile froze on his face.
