Chapter Sixty: Flowers Bloom in the Silver Sea

Meng Yuxiu solemnly replied, "Yes."

Ke Shou, who had followed Meng Yuxiu into the military workshop, was shocked. He clearly remembered that Meng Yuxiu had thrown the gun into the armory because he thought it was no good. When did this gun become so important to him?

Chang Lili patted her forehead, realizing the true meaning of "he who takes a man's money is bound to him" and "he who eats another's food is bound to him."

She patted her chest and said, "General, don't worry, I'll take care of this. But what's wrong with this gun?"

Chang Lili examined the gun from all angles, but found nothing else that needed repair, except for some rust.

Realizing that things were not so simple, Ke Shou quietly withdrew from the military manufacturing department.

He then suddenly realized that their general didn't really want to repair any weapons; he was just using it as an excuse to come to the military equipment department.

However, he thought this was for the best, because this way Chang Lili wouldn't pester him about Meng Yuxiu every morning and evening, and he would have a lot more peace and quiet these past few days.

“This gun…” Meng Yuxiu frowned. “It worked quite well at first, but after using it for a while, I don’t know why, it stopped working so well.”

He lied through his teeth with a straight face, his expression serious.

Chang Lili nodded as if she understood, but in her opinion, the gun should have been malfunctioning from beginning to end.

She thought to herself that Meng Yuxiu's ability to escape danger time and time again and achieve his current accomplishments was not entirely due to his courage and resourcefulness, but also to his exceptional luck.

It's a miracle that someone could fight so carelessly with their weapons and still win every battle and escape unscathed.

"Well, if you ever need to modify or repair any weapons in the future, just bring them to me. You've helped me so much before, so I'll reluctantly do you a favor and be your errand boy," Chang Lili said worriedly.

She thought that since she had helped him modify and repair his weapons, he wouldn't suffer from weaponry issues during battles and thus wouldn't be in danger.

Upon hearing this, Meng Yuxiu began to ponder seriously, wondering how many more weapons he could find.

Although the spear is quite old, it is not rusty, only has some rust spots, which shows that the material used in the spear is of excellent quality.

However, the design of this gun is somewhat unreasonable. The blade of the gun is square, only longer at the top.

Chang Lili polished away the rust and said, "The barrel of your gun is a bit cumbersome. I think both sides can be polished into an arc shape, which would make it more beautiful and easier to use."

With a gentle smile on his lips, Meng Yuxiu said without hesitation, "We'll do as you say."

Upon hearing this, Chang Lili went all out and began polishing with great enthusiasm.

Meng Yuxiu didn't leave in a hurry today. He first watched Chang Lili work attentively, and after a while, he rolled up his sleeves and took the initiative to help Chang Lili.

Chang Lili was so engrossed in her work that she didn't notice the stares of those around her.

Meng Yuxiu overheard many of the whispers. He turned his head and looked coldly toward the source of the voices, at which point the whispers abruptly stopped.

While polishing, Chang Lili casually remarked, "This is easy to handle; I think it can be done tomorrow."

Meng Yuxiu asked in surprise, "Tomorrow? So soon?" His eyes revealed undisguised disappointment.

"What's wrong?" Chang Lili looked puzzled, then thought for a moment before understanding and said, "Don't worry, don't you know my skills? Although slow and steady wins the race, it also depends on the person. You can trust me to do things."

Meng Yuxiu still looked worried.

He helped Chang Lili at the military equipment department, and the two chatted casually until late at night.

When the two walked out of the military workshop, Ke Shou was already waiting outside the door.

Sitting in the carriage, Chang Lili said, "You've been quite idle lately."

“It’s not that I’m particularly free lately, it’s that I was extremely busy a few days ago. Now that the world is at peace, I should be quite relaxed normally,” Meng Yuxiu said in a deep voice.

There were no lights in the carriage, and Chang Lili felt a little strange, as if his voice was very close to her ear, and extremely gentle.

The carriage jolted, and she felt as if she were floating on a cloud.

She didn't remember what else she said. Gradually, she felt her eyelids getting heavy, and a wave of drowsiness washed over her, engulfing her in sleepiness.

As Meng Yuxiu sat in the carriage, he gradually felt something pressing down on Chang Lili, until finally Chang Lili leaned against him.

He called out nervously, "Lili?"

All that could be heard was a soft, sweet murmur, as if it were a dream.

He reached out and lifted a corner of the carriage curtain, letting the streetlights and moonlight stream into the car. He looked down and saw Chang Lili leaning against him, her slender legs casting a small shadow beneath her eyelids.

She was breathing evenly, her cheeks were slightly flushed, and she was sleeping soundly.

His lips curved slightly, his smile as warm as spring.

Upon arriving at the General's Mansion, Ke Shou lifted the carriage curtain and saw this scene: Chang Lili was fast asleep in Meng Yuxiu's arms, completely undisturbed.

In fact, every time Chang Lili returned in the carriage, she would talk energetically at first, but would eventually fall into a deep sleep.

She must have been exhausted from working at the military manufacturing plant; she was, after all, a girl.

Every time they arrived at the gate of the mansion, Ke Shou would wake Chang Lili up, and it goes without saying how much effort it took.

Today, when Ke Shou wanted to wake Chang Lili up again, Meng Yuxiu stopped him.

Meng Yuxiu lifted the sleeping Chang Lili down from the carriage. The slender Chang Lili nestled in his arms, looking quite like a little bird clinging to him.

Perhaps feeling comfortable, Chang Lili unconsciously snuggled closer to Meng Yuxiu.

A smile, unnoticed even by himself, appeared on the latter's lips, and he tightened his embrace around the person in his arms.

The surroundings were very quiet, so quiet that Chang Lili, who was sleeping with her head pressed against Meng Yuxiu's chest, could clearly hear his steady and powerful heartbeat.

She groggily opened her eyes and saw the man's shoulder so close to her, and his Adam's apple clearly visible.

She looked up abruptly and saw Meng Yuxiu's magnified face, his hot breath spraying onto her face.

Realizing she was in his arms, Chang Lili's cheeks flushed red. She was relieved that it was the middle of the night and the surroundings were not bright enough for anyone to see her almost bleeding face, and no one could see their intimate actions.

She practically jumped out of Meng Yuxiu's arms, staggering and nearly falling.

"Are you alright?" Meng Yuxiu asked with concern.

"It's nothing, it's nothing," Chang Lili immediately waved her hand and said with an embarrassed smile, "Why didn't you wake me up? How come I fell asleep? We're here so quickly?"

Meng Yuxiu said calmly, "That's right, you must be exhausted. I'll take you back to rest."

"No, no, no, I can go back by myself." Without giving Meng Yuxiu a chance to speak, she turned and ran towards the courtyard.

Besides the whistling wind as I ran, what filled my ears was the thunderous pounding of my own heart.
