Chapter Sixty-Nine: A Person with Lofty Roots

This was tough on Lu Ming. In the past few days, she kept going to Chang Lili's place, using the excuse of going to see Chang Lili to actually go see Xiao Lingshou.

Now that Meng Yuxiu goes to Chang Lili's place every day, she is afraid that her true identity as a woman will be discovered, so she dares not show herself and is afraid that she will not be able to stay in the military camp in the future.

But she waited and waited, and never saw Meng Yuxiu become too busy with official duties to go to the military manufacturing department.

She had prepared so many things, but she couldn't send them to Xiao Lingshou. She could only stand far away and glance at them a few times each day.

Finally, she couldn't bear it any longer and came up with an idea. So the little soldier who often came to call Lu Ming away appeared in front of Chang Lili.

"Miss Chang... Miss Chang, Lu Ming asked me to give this to you, and to ask you to give it to Young Master Su Ling." The young soldier finished speaking reluctantly, his face flushed, and then glanced unhappily in Xiao Lingshou's direction.

Upon seeing the young soldier, Chang Lili immediately became interested, took the paper bag from his hand, and said, "No problem, no problem."

"Then I'll leave it to Miss Chang." He said, turning to leave.

Chang Lili grabbed him and said, "Sir, don't be in such a hurry to leave. I haven't seen Lu Ming for quite some time. How is she?"

Upon hearing this, the young soldier's expression brightened instantly, and he said with a blush, "I thank you for your concern on behalf of Lu Ming. He's been doing quite well lately."

"That's good. Thank you too. Lu Ming has always been well taken care of by you." Chang Lili smiled slyly.

The young soldier paused for a moment, his fair neck turning red along with his face: "No...no, you're joking, sister."

Chang Lili put down the dagger in her hand and said, "I'm not joking. What's your name?"

"My name is Chu Huan," the young soldier said, his face still flushed.

"Who is older, you or Lu Ming?" Chang Lili asked, like an elder caring for a younger person.

Chu Huan smiled with a hint of shyness: "I'm older."

Chang Lili looked him up and down without any hesitation and said, "Hmm, you're from a good family." Under Chu Huan's questioning gaze, she continued to ask, "What's your relationship with Lu Ming?" Her face showed an expectant look.

The boy blinked and said loudly, "He and I are brothers who have gone through thick and thin together!"

But Chang Lili noticed that his face was getting redder and redder, and although his voice was loud, it lacked confidence. Things were not so simple.

Chang Lili lowered her voice and leaned closer to him, asking mysteriously, "So, what do you think of Lu Ming?"

The ambiguous tone in her voice made Chu Huan blush instantly: "Lu Ming... he's naturally good, otherwise I wouldn't have become good brothers with him!"

Chang Lili squinted slightly and continued, "This 'good' is not the same as that 'good.' Do you like Lu Ming?"

Chu Huan was startled and took several steps back, stammering, "Sister... Sister, don't joke around. I... Lu Ming and I are both men... how could we have feelings for each other!"

Chang Lili burst out laughing, her cheeks flushed red, and she bent over with laughter.

"Perfect! A perfect match!" she exclaimed, clutching her stomach and laughing.

Chu Huan looked bewildered: "What perfect match?"

Chang Lili laughed for a while, finally calming down. Suddenly, a wicked thought came to her mind. She pulled Chu Huan back to her blacksmith's table and lowered her voice, saying, "Let me tell you, I have a lot of experience. From the moment I saw you, I could tell that you like Lu Ming, right?"

Chu Huan's eyes widened suddenly as he looked at Chang Lili. He took a step back in alarm, opened his mouth but didn't speak, but his face clearly said, "How did you know?"

Chang Lili sighed with regret and said, "Although I have a good family background, I never expected that I would fall in love with Lu Ming. What should I do?"

Chu Huan's fair face flushed red and then turned pale, then flushed again.

Looking at him, Chang Lili suddenly felt a little sorry for him. She hadn't expected the child to be so serious. Now, not only was his face red, but the area around his eyes was also slightly red. He was pursing his lips and looked fierce.

She thought she should tell the child the truth as soon as possible, but he turned around and ran away.

Since then, Chang Lili hasn't seen the child. She's a little worried and keeps wondering whether she should go and talk to the child.

A few days later, Lu Ming appeared, but he was acting evasively, sneaking closer to Lu Ming.

Chang Lili crossed her arms and looked at her, saying, "What are you doing? Sneaking around like that."

"General Meng didn't come, did he?" she asked nervously.

Chang Lili lifted her up: "No, why are you so scared?"

Lu Ming said with a bitter face, "I'm afraid of being discovered. I don't know what's wrong with Chu Huan. I can't get him to come and deliver things for me. If it's found out that I'm a girl, I might be kicked out of the army camp, and my father might suffer as well."

Chang Lili coughed lightly, feeling a little guilty. Then she looked at Lu Ming with surprise, not expecting her to be so clever and know how to worry about her father.

“Don’t worry, Meng Yuxiu won’t come this early,” she said.

Lu Ming was relieved this time and asked, "Did Su Ling eat the osmanthus cake last time? Did he like it?"

"Huh?" Chang Lili thought for a moment and said, "It tastes pretty good, but he... he didn't eat any."

"Huh?" Lu Ming said disappointedly, "But I made it myself."

As she spoke, she glanced at Su Ling, who was intently polishing the sheet of iron in his hands.

"But he's still so handsome," she said, smugly.

Chang Lili sighed and said, "You only like his appearance; you won't be happy this way."

Lu Ming was no longer listening to anything. She happily stuffed the paper package in her hand into Chang Lili's hands and said, "Sister Lili, you must help me pass this on to him. Su Ling doesn't eat food from outside. This isn't something from outside. I made it myself."

Chang Lili saw the blisters and redness on her hands, sighed, and took the paper package.

"You're already here, why don't you give it to him yourself? Why do you make me pass it on?" Chang Lili asked, puzzled.

Lu Ming thought about it and realized it was true. She slapped her forehead, grabbed the paper bag, and headed towards Xiao Lingshou's direction.

Chang Lili couldn't help but shake her head and sigh, realizing that things in this world are never truly perfect.

"What's wrong? Why are you sighing?" Meng Yuxiu's gentle voice suddenly rang out.

Chang Lili thought she had misheard, so she turned around abruptly and found Meng Yuxiu standing right in front of her.

She stiffly turned her head to look at Lu Ming and Xiao Lingshou. She saw Lu Ming holding a package of paper and surrounding Xiao Lingshou, but Xiao Lingshou simply refused to acknowledge her or reach out to take the package.

She turned around and asked, "You're here really early today!"

"Hmm, what's wrong? You seem unhappy that I came?" Meng Yuxiu said leisurely, arms crossed.

Chang Lili immediately shook her head: "How could that be?"

Meng Yuxiu turned to look in Xiao Lingshou's direction and said disdainfully, "I didn't expect that besides you, there would be anyone else willing to talk to this expressionless guy."
