Without the rope, Chang Lili slumped down like a rag doll, falling into his arms.
In just a short while, she had become like this. Meng Yuxiu's anger flared up, and he shamelessly vented his frustration.
The county magistrate, oblivious to his own mortality, followed them here with several constables, actually attempting to stop Meng Yuxiu from taking Chang Lili away.
"General... you really can't take this girl away. If you take her away, how are we supposed to explain it to the princess? If you want to save this girl, go to the princess and ask for her. Isn't this making things difficult for us?" The magistrate couldn't be fierce in front of Meng Yuxiu, so he could only keep mentioning Xiao Shu'er's name, hoping it would have some effect.
Meng Yuxiu carefully placed Chang Lili against the wall and sat her down. He stood up and stared at them coldly. It would have been better if Xiao Shuer hadn't been mentioned. Mentioning Xiao Shuer only made Meng Yuxiu feel even angrier.
He used to think that the eldest princess was arrogant and domineering, but he never expected her to be so vicious.
"Tell the princess that I took the person away. Will you let me pass or not?"
The magistrate began to tremble. He dared not offend either side. His legs went weak and he knelt on the ground. The constables, however, still had some backbone and seemed to want to stop him.
However, they were no match for Meng Yuxiu, and were quickly defeated by him.
He clapped his hands, turned around, and picked up Chang Lili. He was very careful, but even though he was very gentle, he still touched her wounds, which made her gasp in pain.
At this moment, she regained some of her senses and looked at Meng Yuxiu, forcing a weak smile: "It's you. I thought... I wouldn't see you again..."
After saying that, she nestled softly into his arms, like a docile kitten, curled up, knowing that she was safe in his embrace.
Meng Yuxiu's movements became even gentler; he felt she was so delicate that she evoked pity.
Her tattered clothes revealed glimpses of her smooth skin, but those alabaster-like skin was covered with shocking red marks.
He took off his outer robe and wrapped it around her slender, soft body before walking outside.
He didn't want anyone else to see her body, nor did he want to see her suffer like this. He hoped her skin could return to its former smoothness and radiance as soon as possible.
Realizing his own thoughts, he was startled. Thinking of the person in his arms who was still covered in wounds, and how he could have such thoughts, he couldn't help but feel ashamed.
What's wrong with him? This decisive and ruthless general has become obsessed with romance? And with a woman of unknown origin no less.
