Chapter 103 Coward, I hate you!
How's the progress these past two days?
It rained heavily a couple of days ago, and the soil is still slightly damp.
As soon as you step outside, the entire Xinghua Village is shrouded in a thin, thick fog, and everywhere you look, there is lush greenery.
Jiang Nuanzhi took a deep breath and stretched.
“It’s raining, isn’t it? It’s so humid. I put all the powdered herbs up high. There’s about half left,” said Lü Shizhu.
Jiang Nuanzhi nodded: "Then let's continue today."
No sooner had she finished speaking than she noticed a small cannonball hurtling towards her.
"Mother!"
Jiang Nuanzhi scooped her daughter up: "Baozhu, did you miss your mother?"
"Mother!" Little Baozhu clung tightly to her neck.
Jiang Nuanzhi noticed the little girl burying her head against her, and the next second, she felt a slight chill on her neck. Was she... crying?
Jiang Nuanzhi asked in surprise, "Little girl, you're crying because you miss your mother so much? Aren't you ashamed?"
Who knew that just that one sentence would make Baozhu cry even harder, clinging tightly to her neck and sobbing uncontrollably.
Jiang Nuanzhi was also at a loss for words: "What's wrong, baby?"
Xiao Er was feeding the chickens. Seeing Jiang Nuanzhi, he immediately ran over: "Nuanzhi, Baozhu thinks you've left. She really doesn't want us anymore."
Jiang Nuanzhi frowned: "Baozhu? How could your mother not want you? Didn't I tell you before I left that I would be back in a couple of days? I even bought you some snacks. They're in the package. I'll get them for you in a bit."
Xiao Er looked at his younger sister with heartache, angrily waving his little fist and saying, "It's all Widow Wang's fault! She kept saying that you, Nuan, ran away with another man and didn't want us anymore. My little sister has been squatting at the door waiting for you these past few days."
Why is Widow Wang coming to our house?
"It's all because of that Wang Doudou from his family! He tried to snatch the candy from Baozhu's hand! Baozhu must have been bullied. I heard from the second young master that when he saw Baozhu, Widow Wang was pointing her finger at Baozhu and cursing her."
"Second Young Master?" Jiang Nuanzhi frowned. "Is Xie Liangchen involved here? What is he doing at our house?"
Xiao Er nodded: "He must have been riding in Grandpa Niu's donkey cart next door to school this morning when he happened to run into him."
Baozhu sniffed: "Second Young Master helped me chase away the bad guys!"
Jiang Nuanzhi's heart skipped a beat, and her brows furrowed even more deeply: "And then?"
The waiter said, "Then, when Brother Lü and I came home, we saw the Second Young Master and Baozhu together. Brother Lü wanted to confront them, but the Second Young Master said that he had already helped Baozhu get the candy back and told us not to be impulsive and to wait for you to come back."
Lu Shizhu gritted his teeth as he listened: "That widow is the most annoying person I've ever met! Baozhu, don't be afraid. If she dares to wrong you again, your brother Lu will definitely beat her mouth crooked."
Upon hearing this, Baozhu burst into laughter through her tears: "Brother Lü, I'm not afraid of him! I'm just afraid that Mother will really abandon me."
But my mother is back, and what she said is wrong! Baozhu isn't a little wretch born of a mother but raised without one; Baozhu has a mother!
As she spoke, she clenched her little fist with conviction.
Jiang Nuanzhi felt a lump in her throat as she listened, and kissed her little Baozhu on the cheek: "Yes, Baozhu is your mother's precious baby, you don't need to be afraid of anyone."
He gritted his teeth inwardly. That damned woman really deserved to be taught a lesson. He shouldn't have been so tactful last time; she deserved to be taught a harsh lesson like Chun Tao, so she'd avoid his family from now on.
Xie Liangchen, however, surprised Jiang Nuanzhi somewhat, as he actually helped her own Baozhu.
He does possess some of the desirable qualities of a male protagonist.
Jiang Nuanzhi looked around and asked, "Where's Xiao Xuanting?"
Upon hearing this, Baozhu immediately pouted, "Mother! He won't help me! He's secretly hiding away! I don't want to be friends with him anymore."
Jiang Nuanzhi frowned slightly, and the next second she saw Xiao Xuanting walk out of the house with a pale face.
His little fists were clenched tightly, his eyes lowered, and he explained softly, "Auntie Nuan, I... I didn't mean to hide, it's just... it's just..."
"What is it? Tell me! Isn't it because you're a coward? You're not even as good as that slovenly second young master!"
Little Baozhu immediately pouted and looked at Xiao Xuanting unhappily.
Xiao Xuanting cautiously approached her and said, "Sister Baozhu, I apologize. I really have my reasons."
"Hmph! Coward! How annoying!"
Xiao Er scratched his forehead: "Baozhu, just forgive him. He hasn't dared to leave the house these past few days; he's probably scared. After all, not everyone is as brave as your brother."
Little Pearl blinked, snorted, and said nothing more.
Seeing the children's furious expressions, Jiang Nuanzhi felt it was best for an adult not to get involved. She simply smiled and greeted the children.
"Alright, come and see what I bought for you!"
Jiang Nuanzhi untied the bundle she had been wearing.
She carefully protected it all the way, as there was a pot of chili peppers she had been longing for inside.
While browsing the night market, Cang Lin saw some exquisite masks of various kinds and bought a few as gifts for the children. He also bought a few small ornaments and some snacks, which he piled all on the table.
Little Pearl and Little Er's eyes lit up when they saw the little mask, and they couldn't put it down once they got it.
Lu Shizhu looked at her for a long time, then looked at Jiang Nuanzhi with a resentful expression: "Nuanzhi, didn't you think of bringing me a gift?"
Jiang Nuanzhi touched her nose, picked out a mask from inside, and handed it to him: "Isn't this for you?"
Lu Shizhu happily accepted it, but the next second, he frowned: "Why does this look like something a woman would wear? There's a flower on her forehead and a hairpin on her head. Is this really for me?"
Jiang Nuanzhi coughed lightly: "It's just a mask, what does it matter if it's for men or women? As long as it looks good, that's all that matters. Look, it suits your skin tone so well. I picked it out especially for you, it's perfect for you."
Lu Shizhu looked doubtful: "Really?"
Jiang Nuanzhi nodded very seriously: "Of course, with our relationship, would I lie to you?"
Lu Shizhu laughed so hard his teeth were showing, and he immediately put on the mask and started gesturing wildly to scare Xiao Baozhu and the other girl.
The two children were amused and giggled, then ran off together.
The group chased each other and started playing.
Jiang Nuanzhi couldn't help but chuckle, secretly wiping the sweat from her forehead. She'd really forgotten about Young Master Lü. Luckily, she'd bought one for herself, which could serve as a substitute.
Seeing the somewhat forlorn look on Xiao Xuanting's face, Jiang Nuanzhi squatted down and placed the small mask she had bought for him in his hands: "This is for our Xuanting."
Xiao Xuanting raised his head, his slightly reddened eyes filled with disbelief: "Aunt Nuan, do you still have any for me?"
Jiang Nuanzhi smiled and patted his head: "Of course, you are also Aunt Nuan's good child."
The little boy's face, which had been slightly stubborn, suddenly filled with tears: "Auntie Nuan, do you...believe me?"
