Chapter 273 This...what an eerie atmosphere
"Everyone has worked hard, so I won't stay any longer. I still have some things to do today."
"Please proceed, Dr. Jiang."
"Thank you, Dr. Jiang."
Ping'er felt a surge of displeasure looking at his group of senior brothers, who were grinning from ear to ear. What's with all the laughing? Why didn't they laugh like that when they saw him?
There were also several men in the village. Apart from Uncle Wu, don't think he didn't know what the others were up to. Especially Li Zhuzi from the village head's family, wasn't he the one who looked down on working for them before? Now, however, he's the one with the biggest eyes on Anuan, waiting at her door before dawn every day.
She immediately grabbed Jiang Nuanzhi and said, "Mother, I have nothing to do anyway, so why don't we go back together? Aren't you making instant noodles? I'll help you with that."
“Then ask your master,” Jiang Nuanzhi said with a smile.
"Go, go, go." Dean Yue was munching on some fruit while staring at a diagram. He waved his hand dismissively, "Just come back when you're teaching tonight. Don't let Dr. Jiang get too tired."
Ping'er went back, picked up his books, stuffed them into her arms, and rushed to Jiang Nuanzhi: "Let's go back?"
Currently, a barrier stands between Jiang Nuanzhi and Chen Shu, ensuring that Chen Shu is not allowed to get even a little closer.
Chen Shu was actually quite bewildered. He hadn't expected that the woman the Duke had asked him to paint had such a grown son! For a moment, his mind went completely blank.
He turned and followed the two, but inadvertently caught a glimpse of Dean Yue's face. He was startled; this man seemed familiar somewhere before. He thought for a while but couldn't quite place him. Something felt off today; he also felt that Doctor Jiang's son looked somewhat familiar.
Regardless, it would be difficult for a woman like this to marry into the Duke's mansion. She'd be lucky to become a concubine, let alone a mistress.
I wonder if the Duke knows that this beauty has a son. If he does, would he raise someone else's child?
Thinking this, he sighed inwardly as he looked at Jiang Nuanzhi. Her future was probably going to be ruined by him. He had to tell the Duke about her having a child.
He thought about it while simultaneously mocking himself.
Chen Shu has already fallen so low, and the only job he's ever had is to record this young woman's trivial matters. He's really something else.
"Mother!"
"Mother!"
Lost in thought, the group entered the courtyard. Upon hearing the two crisp voices, Chen Shu was momentarily stunned.
Xiao Baozhu and Xiao Er rushed over as soon as they saw Jiang Nuanzhi. Jiang Nuanzhi was surrounded by them and asked in surprise, "Why are you kids so enthusiastic today? What's going on?"
"Mother, I just missed you!"
Baozhu tugged at Jiang Nuanzhi's hand and kept acting coquettishly.
Xiao Er blushed and rubbed his head sheepishly, saying, "Yes, Baozhu is right."
Chen Shu was stunned. So this woman didn't just have one child, she actually had three?
Does the Duke know? Or does he actually want to be the father?
Ping'er saw Chen Shu's expression and immediately sneered.
He had already trained his younger siblings well in advance; from now on, anytime, anywhere, they must call Ah Nuan "Mother." This was all to deter these men with ill intentions.
"Madam, you're back?"
When Fu Man saw Jiang Nuanzhi return, she immediately went to greet her. "I've boiled water for you, why don't you wash up first? I've also made breakfast. Didn't you say you wanted to eat steamed buns this morning? I made them according to the method you taught me, would you like to try some?"
Jiang Nuanzhi pinched Xiao Baozhu's cheek and patted Xiao Er's head, letting the two of them play by themselves. Then she smiled and rubbed Fu Man's little head: "This girl, didn't I tell you to call me Aunt Nuan from now on, don't call me Madam, I'm not used to it."
Fu Man stuck out her tongue sheepishly: "Sorry, Aunt Nuan, I remember."
Actually, it was the young master who instructed them that if they saw a man with Aunt Nuan, they must call her "Madam".
Jiang Nuanzhi glanced at Fu Man's hands: "Okay, your hands have healed well these past two days, they look almost healed. You should use that ointment more often."
"Thank you, Aunt Nuan."
Fu Man smiled, her lips pursed. Unlike when she first came to Jiang Nuan's house, Fu Man had gradually adapted to life in Jiang Nuan's home.
"By the way, Aunt Nuan, you said you needed to render some lard to continue making the ointment. My brother went to town to buy meat today, and judging from the time, we'll have to wait a while."
Jiang Nuanzhi nodded. Turning to Chen Shu beside her, she said, "Shall we have breakfast together? After breakfast, I'll make some instant noodles. It'll probably take some time. Why don't you stay for lunch?"
After all, she had given him two hundred taels of silver. Jiang Nuanzhi felt that it would be like bullying an honest man if she didn't invite him to stay for a meal.
Chen Shu quickly declined, saying, "Thank you, doctor. I've already eaten. There's no need to trouble yourself."
Food in rural farmhouses is probably scarce, and their living conditions are so shabby, he wouldn't dare eat there. Besides, they probably couldn't cook anything delicious, could they?
Jiang Nuanzhi didn't insist. After eating the steamed buns with the children, she had them heat up the stove and knead the dough, and they busied themselves with it.
In fact, Jiang Nuanzhi felt much more relaxed after the two children, Fusheng and Fuman, came to her home.
She can just make a list of what she wants. That kid Fusheng is even better at bargaining than Jiang Nuanzhi. He buys more and gets cheaper prices, and he even helps her with the accounts. He's practically an all-rounder.
At first glance, Fu Man seemed quiet and reserved, but she turned out to be incredibly efficient at her work. She was also clever and perceptive, able to read people's expressions. She was particularly quick to learn about food; after Jiang Nuanzhi taught her once, the little girl could probably replicate it 80-90% of the time. Even when Fu Man wasn't home, there was no worry about the family going hungry.
Now that Fu Man was in charge of kneading the dough, she started preparing the seasonings herself.
Chen Shu was bored in the courtyard, secretly observing the surrounding environment and Jiang Nuanzhi.
He was a rough man, not one to live a refined life, but it was hard to imagine that a beauty like Dr. Jiang would live in such a dilapidated house; she seemed completely out of place. Even more unimaginable was that she was actually cooking and preparing meals.
I only glanced at it twice before my view was blocked by a young boy.
Chen Shu looked over in surprise and met the unfriendly, gloomy eyes of Dr. Jiang's eldest son. Chen Shu was startled. In the blink of an eye, he saw Dr. Jiang's youngest son sharpening a knife while staring at him.
Chen Shu: "."
He sat there awkwardly, looking up to see a beautiful little girl with delicate features staring at him. Chen Shu subconsciously smiled at her, but the next second, the little girl turned and left.
Chen Shu scratched his head, puzzled. What was going on?
He felt extremely uncomfortable and awkwardly stood up.
"Woof!" A deep bark sounded.
The big black dog at the door didn't let him off the hook either, suddenly baring its teeth at him and staring at him warily. Startled, Chen Shu sat back down in his original spot, frozen in place, too afraid to move. What an eerie atmosphere!
"Ah Nuan is back! Ah Nuan, have some candy!"
Just then, Xinbo came out of the house carrying a jar. He searched for Jiang Nuanzhi in the yard.
Chen Shu heard a familiar voice and froze, frowning as he turned to look, only to be met with Xin Bo's face. His pupils constricted sharply: "You...you...you...how could you be here?!"
Ping'er: What is my father doing? Why hasn't he come back yet?!
Li Rong: Achoo! Could it be that Anuan is thinking of me?
