Chapter 3: Penniless

Chapter 3: Penniless

Swallowing hard, Jiang Nuanzhi tentatively took two steps inside.

My heart finally stopped pounding when I saw the fierce black dog tied up in the corner.

In the original owner's memory, this was her family's dog, which followed her adopted son every day.

Seeing that it was getting completely dark, she didn't care about anything else and took the child into the house first.

A chilly wind seemed to have followed her inside, making it even colder than outside. Jiang Nuanzhi shivered involuntarily.

Upon closer inspection, the house is below ground level, likely a unique local construction method, probably for protection against the cold.

Go down three steps and enter the house.

One of the three rooms collapsed, and the ground was covered with mud, looking like no one had cleaned it up.

Jiang Nuanzhi wandered around the kitchen and the bedroom where the others lived on the right.

The kitchen had a stove, a rickety-looking table, and a few broken stools.

The bedroom contained a heated kang bed with a box on it. Several wooden planks on the floor were supported by stones, on which were placed some daily necessities and a few cleaned animal hides. There was nothing else.

Jiang Nuanzhi spread the only decent-looking quilt on the heated kang, put the little girl down first, and wrapped her in the quilt.

The kang (heated brick bed) was cold because there was no firewood burning.

The window paper was torn with holes of all sizes, letting in a cool breeze.

They're really dirt poor; I don't know how these people survived the winter.

"It's alright, it's alright, take your time. Once we've made some money, we'll build a house, a villa!"

In the darkness, the house appeared somewhat eerie. Jiang Nuanzhi comforted herself as she groped her way to the candle.

She tried to light the flint several times but failed. Just as she was frowning and studying the flint carefully, she suddenly heard a faint female voice behind her.

"Jiang Pangya"

Jiang Nuanzhi turned around and saw a woman in white who had appeared in the room at some point. Her face turned pale: "Ah, a ghost!"

Almost instinctively, she threw the stone in her hand!

The "female ghost" was knocked to the ground by her blow.

Then, Jiang Nuanzhi watched as the female ghost got up again.

The female ghost was clearly furious and roared, "You damned Jiang Pangya, how dare you hit me!"

"Why are you out fooling around and only coming back now?"

"Do you know that because of you, the second young master has been starving all day?"

Bang!

The female ghost's words were interrupted by Jiang Nuanzhi's blow to the head. Her eyes rolled back again, and she fell straight down.

Jiang Nuanzhi threw away the fire poker in her hand, patted her chubby little hands, and wondered, "This dead guy looks strangely familiar."

"You fat bastard! How dare you hit me!!!"

The sound of gritting teeth came from behind again, and the familiar female ghost stood up once more.

Jiang Nuanzhi squatted down, picked up the stick, and held it in her hand, eager to try it out.

The female ghost's initial arrogance vanished without a trace after she saw the stick.

She swallowed hard, looked at the big stick, and instinctively backed away.

Hey! Don't come any closer! It's me! Ah!

The "female ghost" tripped over the threshold while backing up, fell straight down again, tilted her head, rolled her eyes, and fainted again.

He convulsed twice, and a string of white foam came out of the corner of his mouth.

Jiang Nuanzhi glanced at the stick in her hand.

"Well, this really isn't my fault."

Jiang Nuanzhi looked closely at the face and suddenly realized!

Oh, I remember now! This is Chun Tao, the second young master's first-class maid, and the original owner's former colleague and rival.

She was a cunning woman who treated the original owner like a beast of burden, making her do all the dirty and tiring work while she herself reaped all the credit. The original owner seemed to be terrified of her.

Jiang Nuanzhi took a closer look and saw that her nose was bleeding. Out of a veterinarian's humanitarian concern, she went over and helped her treat it.

Then, he grabbed her feet, preparing to throw her out to lie down.

However, at that moment, a man's arrogant shout came from behind.

"Jiang Pangya, get out here right now!"

"Look at your little bastard, daring to steal the second young master's testicles."

"If you don't give me an explanation today, I'll expose this whole thing to the second young master!"

"Hey, Jiang Pangya, did you hear me? Stop hiding inside pretending! Ahhh!"

The shouting turned into screaming.

It was still a terrified scream.

"Aaaaaah, murder!"

"Killing, killing, killing! Jiang Pangya, you...you you you!"

Jiang Nuanzhi: "."

To be honest, she still wanted to see his arrogant demeanor from just now, and wondered if he could recover.

Helpless, she released her grip on the woman's leg, frowned, and wiped the blood from her hand onto the woman's body. Then she turned and left.

At a glance, you could see the man who had fallen to the ground and wet his pants in fright.

Jiang Nuanzhi raised an eyebrow. The Second Young Master's two lackeys have both arrived?

Lying inside the room was his personal maid, Chun Tao, and this was clearly his page, A Fu.

However, looking at his demeanor, Jiang Nuanzhi couldn't help but pinch her nose.

"I said, even elementary school students know not to pee or poop anywhere, aren't you being incredibly unhygienic?"

Afu was still in shock, his finger trembling as he pointed at Jiang Pangya: "You...you killed Chuntao!"

Jiang Nuanzhi ignored him and frowned as she walked over to the little boy who had been thrown on the ground, covered in dirt.

In the original owner's memory, this was her second son.

The plot mentioned that this son was also a big shot. Later, he became the simp of the fake rich girl? He couldn't get her love and even betrayed his brother. In the end, the big boss died, and afterwards, he also shaved his head and became a monk.

Jiang Nuanzhi thought the plot was quite good while reading the book.

Now, she only has one question: is being a simp a family specialty?

Tsk tsk, one or two of them, their love-struck minds have taken root and sprouted!

Jiang Nuanzhi couldn't help but become curious about their missing biological father. What kind of father could raise such children?

It seems my vision needs to be properly corrected.

"Hey kid, did someone hit you?"

After calming herself down, she poked his swollen little face.

Li Jia's second son's eyes were red and swollen, and tears streamed down his swollen and cracked cheeks, but he stubbornly kept his neck straight and didn't make a sound.

"He did it?" Jiang Nuanzhi pointed to Afu, who was not far away.

Li Xiaoer remained silent, her lips pursed.

It wasn't that he didn't feel wronged, but he knew that talking to this bad woman would be useless.

He didn't steal the eggs; they were his chickens, but that wicked woman gave them to that so-called second young master!

She even stole the money her father left behind and used it to buy food for her second son.

And this pageboy, he often beats me, and even says that his father is dead. The wicked woman never helps me, but always obeys the pageboy.

She even wanted to sell the three siblings—a pipe dream!

After saying that, he spat hard at Jiang Nuanzhi's face.

"When my father comes back, I will definitely not let you get away with this!"

Jiang Nuanzhi wiped her face, rolled her eyes, and picked up the brat.

Like a small child or a young animal, it struggled frantically.

Jiang Nuanzhi hugged him tightly, and seeing that he was about to spit again, she used her head to block the little guy.

"Kid, spitting isn't a good habit. It only provokes the other person and won't cause any physical damage."
