Chapter 374 I am his wife
"Eldest brother? It's the eldest brother of the Li family! Eldest brother, save me!"
Zhao Yuniang stared in disbelief at the man standing on the opposite high wall.
In her past life, this man had lost his leg at a young age, and she had never seen him stand up, let alone look at him with such a cold gaze as he confronted these vicious bandits.
Especially seeing those bandits almost helpless in his hands, Zhao Yuniang's heart pounded wildly. Seizing an opportunity, she frantically ran towards Li Rong, shouting as she ran.
But the next second, her arm was grabbed and she was lifted up.
"You bitch, so you really do know that man! You even tricked us! Brother, why don't we just kill her now?"
As he said this, the bearded man's hand was already on Zhao Yuniang's neck.
Zhao Yuniang's eyes were filled with terror, and her entire face turned bright red.
Changshan glanced at him, waved his hand to signal the bearded man to let go, and then suddenly looked at Zhao Yuniang: "Do you know that man on the platform just now?"
Upon hearing his question, Zhao Yuniang shook her head abruptly: "No, no, no, I don't know her."
Changshan was getting impatient: "Since you don't know him, then just kill him."
Zhao Yuniang was so frightened that tears streamed down her face: "I know him, sir, I know him!"
Changshan squinted at him and asked, "Oh? So you know him very well?"
"Yes, I understand! I know everything about him. Please, please don't kill me!" Zhao Yuniang kowtowed repeatedly in fear.
Changshan squinted at her. "I don't want to hear this. Say something useful."
"His name is Li Rong. He's a hunter in the village, and he has three children: two boys and a girl."
Upon hearing the name Li Rong, Changshan's pupils constricted sharply. His fists clenched instinctively, and he didn't even have time to pick up his ever-present pipe from the ground. His gloomy eyes fixed on Zhao Yuniang's face.
Zhao Yuniang swallowed hard and immediately knelt down again, saying, "Don't kill me. I'm willing to tell you everything I know. Aren't you short of food? Even if we don't attack this village, you still have food. There's a Peach Blossom Village seven miles to the west, and in that village, there's a Wang family who are big pig farmers. They have plenty of food."
The next second, Changshan suddenly grabbed her hair: "That man, is his name really Li Rong? Is he from your village?"
"Pah, you stinking woman! The general died a long time ago, how could he possibly still be in such a godforsaken place? Are you playing me again?" The third brother's eyes darkened as he slapped Zhao Yuniang across the face.
"He...he really is named Li Rong! I...I'm not lying to you! I am actually his wife!"
Having lived two lives, Zhao Yuniang keenly sensed the fear these people had of Li Rong. She swallowed hard, noticing the change in their expressions, and suddenly mustered her courage, saying, "Well, when he came to the Great Wilderness, his leg was crippled. I took good care of him. If you dare to hurt me, he will definitely not forgive you. If you release me now, I will not hold what happened these past two days against you."
Unbeknownst to Zhao Yuniang, as she uttered those words, Changshan's face turned deathly pale.
"Brother, don't believe this bitch, she's definitely playing us for a fool."
Changshan clenched his fists tightly and looked back at Li Rong's direction again: "Pass the word down, tell all the brothers to retreat."
"Brother!" The one-eyed second-in-command, standing nearby, also looked grim upon hearing this. "Our brothers have suffered heavy casualties there, and we haven't even gotten any food yet. If we don't take them down today, we'll soon be out of ammunition and supplies."
Changshan's face turned ashen, and after a long while he said, "Isn't there a Wang family in Peach Blossom Township? Send someone to check them out. Hold on for a while, and then we'll leave here as soon as possible."
Saying this, he turned and left almost as if fleeing in panic.
"What are we afraid of? Even if it is that person, so what? I don't believe he can take on all of us by himself."
"Shut up!" Changshan snapped. "I don't want to hear a single word of disrespect for the general. Regardless of who it is, this matter ends here!"
These words silenced everyone around them.
"Brother, what should we do with this woman?" the third brother asked, frowning as he looked at Zhao Yuniang.
Changshan subconsciously reached for the tobacco pouch hanging at his waist, but found nothing the next second. He frowned and glanced at Zhao Yuniang: "Take it back first."
After thinking for a while, he finally said, "Don't let anyone touch her."
"General Chang, where are we going? You haven't delivered the person our young master wants yet!"
As Changshan was retreating, he was blocked by several people.
Upon seeing the newcomer, Changshan clenched his fists, but managed a smile and bowed to him, saying, "I am now just a bandit. I am unworthy of the title of general, sir."
Then, feigning surprise, he asked, "Why is my lord here? Or does the young master have any orders?"
"Changshan, don't blame me for not reminding you, the young master knows everything you do! Don't forget who protected your dog's life. The young master's patience is limited, you'd better hurry up."
Changshan's eyes held a hint of gloom: "This place is easy to defend and difficult to attack now. The other side has experts. My brothers here have suffered more than a few losses. I beg you to go back and speak to the young master for me, and ask for a two-day extension."
The newcomer said impatiently, "You bandits, can't you even take down a small village? If all else fails, you can burn it or smoke it out; there are always ways."
A hint of surprise flashed in Changshan's gloomy eyes, then he laughed: "You really have a way, sir. Changshan understands."
The man laughed and said, "General Chang, you should know the young master's good intentions. You should know what happened to you old subordinates back then. Over the years, the young master has gone to great lengths to protect you. Even if you're not thinking of yourself, General Chang, you should think of your brothers and not disappoint the young master."
Changshan's expression remained unchanged; he simply lowered his eyes and smiled as he replied, "Changshan will certainly not fail your trust, young master."
"In that case, let's begin!"
...
"Did you understand? Go in later and tell them that someone is injured and ask Dr. Jiang to come and take a look."
Wang Mazi and two thugs were outside Jiang Nuan's house.
The thug immediately shrank back: "Will this work?"
"What's wrong? Weren't you drooling over that woman? We're grown men, and she beat us up like this. Are you really willing to accept that? Don't you want her to beg for mercy?"
There was still a hint of fear in the thug's eyes, but he seemed to think Wang Mazi's words were too optimistic. He rubbed his hands together and said, "That's true, but I heard that the men in their family brought back more than a dozen tall and strong men. If they find out..."
I'm guilty, I confess, I'm not human. I neglected my work for several days during the Lunar New Year holiday, not only did I neglect updating, but I also gained eight pounds, sob sob, I'm really crying. Two weddings are booked for tomorrow and the day after.
Once I'm done with these last couple of days, I promise to give you all a ton of updates. And most importantly, a huge thank you to all the sisters who voted for me every day even with my terrible updates! I love you all so much! *sobs*
