Chapter 515: Catching the Mole
“I’ll go take a look,” Li Rong said, putting on his cloak as well. “I’ll send more people to search as well.”
Then, Li Rong scanned the area and frowned, "Chi Heng and Sun Wen were just here a moment ago, where are they?"
It was late at night, and the children had all gone to sleep. Only a few adults were watching Jiang Nuanzhi make food, their mouths watering.
Lu Shizhu stared at the pile of dishes on the table, drooling and yawning, and casually said, "...Didn't he go to the outhouse? Sun Wen followed him. Wait, it's already this late, he's been in the outhouse for almost half an hour!"
Upon hearing this, Jiang Nuanzhi and Li Rong exchanged a glance.
"Oh no, could it be him?"
Li Rong didn't finish speaking, but Jiang Nuanzhi already understood what he meant.
The two sensed something was wrong and immediately got up and walked out.
“If this brat dares to cause trouble, I’ll skin him alive. Don’t worry, Nuan!” Li Rong said.
Jiang Nuanzhi gritted her teeth: "Chi Heng is really out of his mind. I told him that the old man would never have any connection with Xiao Yuanshan, but he just wouldn't believe me. He even said that we were both stubborn."
As she said this, she quickened her pace.
The young princess blinked and suddenly stood up, exclaiming, "Hey, wait for me!"
He then followed them.
As soon as they stepped out of the courtyard, they saw Sun Yat-sen hurrying towards them.
Jiang Nuanzhi saw him and her expression turned grim. Before she could even ask him a question, Sun Wen saw her and immediately knelt down in front of her as if she were his savior: "Dr. Jiang! Help! Help me!"
Jiang Nuanzhi was momentarily stunned, looking at Sun Wen kneeling in front of her, almost crying, completely bewildered.
Li Rong, standing beside him, also frowned: "What exactly happened?"
Sun Wen, breathless, pointed behind him and said haltingly, "It's...it's over there! Our master...he..."
"Ah!" A scream rang out.
Jiang Nuanzhi was in a hurry and didn't listen to what Sun Wen said. She ran towards that direction.
At the back of the alley, the old man sat on a brick, holding a stick in his hand. He rolled his eyes at Chi Heng next to him and swung the stick at his butt.
Chi Heng immediately screamed, "Help! Help!"
Jiang Nuanzhi ran up to the scene and was stunned by what she saw.
After a long pause, he finally asked, "What's going on here?"
The two men, engrossed in hitting and being hit, suddenly turned around and saw Jiang Nuanzhi. Their eyes lit up.
"Ah Nuan! There's a traitor in our house!"
"Sister-in-law! I've come to catch the traitor!"
The two shouted this sentence almost in unison.
At the same time, Li Rong and the young princess also arrived.
The air fell into a deathly silence.
The old man and Chi Heng sized each other up.
"A mole?"
Who is the mole?
Their voices rang out simultaneously once again.
The difference was that after saying that, the old man hit Chi Heng on the buttocks with a stick, and Chi Heng screamed again.
"Who is it? Why are you howling like that in the middle of the night instead of sleeping!"
"Exactly, if you want to howl, go home and howl!"
At that moment, shouts and curses came from the neighbors nearby.
The crowd remained silent for a long while.
"Hey, these unruly people have gone too far!" Chi Heng rolled his eyes in pain, "I'm doing a great deed! What do you know?"
The old man squinted at what he heard, as if he had thought of something, and kicked Chi Heng away.
His eyes were fixed on Jiang Nuanzhi: "Nuanzhi, what does this kid mean? Who's the mole? What are you all doing, making such a fuss and staying up all night?"
"What else can we do? We're here to arrest you!"
Chi Heng immediately shouted.
The old man pursed his lips, glanced at Jiang Nuanzhi, and the next second, with a "bang," he threw the box containing his treasures to the ground. The jewels inside scattered all over the floor.
He looked at Jiang Nuanzhi: "Is what this brat is saying true?"
Chi Heng, however, was not one to shy away from making things worse. Her eyes widened instantly, as if she had caught someone red-handed. She clutched her backside with one hand, jumped up and down, and even while wincing in pain, she pointed at the things on the ground: "Look! Stolen goods! These must have been given to him by Xiao Yuanshan! He must be in cahoots with Xiao Yuanshan!"
The next second, the old man gritted his teeth and stared at Chi Heng with his dark eyes.
Startled, Chi Heng shrank back, took a step back, and dared not utter another sound.
The old man squinted and turned to Jiang Nuanzhi and Li Rong: "You think so too?"
A moment of silence fell over the surroundings.
Jiang Nuanzhi frowned and stepped forward, but before she could speak, the old man sneered and glanced at the wine in his arms: "This is really boring."
With a flick of his wrist, the wine jar shattered with a "crack".
He looked around, then turned and walked away.
"See how guilty he is! He definitely is! I told you he should listen to me on this matter."
Chi Heng said as if he had won a battle.
The old man squinted, his fists clenched so tightly they cracked. But the next second he found himself unable to move. He frowned and turned around, only to find his sleeve being grabbed.
He turned his head with an unfriendly expression, only to meet Jiang Nuanzhi's pitiful eyes.
The next second, Jiang Nuanzhi smiled brightly: "Why are you back so late? I made a big table of dishes for you, and I've been waiting for so long that the food is almost cold."
The old man shook off Jiang Nuanzhi's hand and continued to stare at her expressionlessly.
Seeing this from behind, Chi Heng's eyes widened immediately: "Sister-in-law, why did you prepare food for him?"
"Shut his mouth!"
Jiang Nuanzhi suddenly said in a cold voice.
As she spoke, she glanced back at Li Rong.
For some reason, Li Rong suddenly felt a chill run down his spine and almost instantly covered Chi Heng's mouth. He was so quick that he was stunned.
The young princess stared blankly, then took the opportunity to move closer to Chi Heng. Still not satisfied, she grabbed his waist and pinched his soft flesh, then twisted it around.
Seeing Chi Heng's wide eyes and inability to make a sound, she felt that she had finally let go of all the anger she had felt throughout the day, and she forced herself not to laugh out loud.
Jiang Nuanzhi tugged at the old man's sleeve again and shook him: "Don't be angry, let's go home and eat. People who argue with idiots will become idiots themselves. He has some mental issues, I'll explain it to you properly when we get back, it's all a misunderstanding today."
The old man still had a stern face, but he let Jiang Nuanzhi grab his sleeve and remained silent.
Jiang Nuanzhi glanced at his face and then smiled, "Grandpa, if you wait any longer, the boiled fish, braised chicken feet, braised pork ribs, and sweet and sour pork that I made for you will all get cold, and they won't taste good when they're cold!"
The old man had been expressionless, but upon hearing this, his Adam's apple bobbed, and after a long while, he raised his chin and snorted coldly: "For the sake of those dishes, I'll give you a chance to explain!"
“Okay.” Jiang Nuanzhi climbed up the slope and immediately wrapped her arms around the old man’s arm: “Let’s go home and have something delicious to eat.”
The old man was pulled back by her, and his eyes immediately fell on the wine jar he had just smashed. He ran over, squatted down, and exclaimed angrily, "What a waste of this whole jar of good wine! I went all the way back for you! You brat, you really don't deserve this good fortune!"
