Chapter 520: Is he a conman?

Chapter 520: Is he a conman?

Lord Li was stunned by what he heard.

Sanqi entered the Imperial Hospital and felt a little relieved. She waved to Lord Li.

Lord Li leaned closer before speaking mysteriously, "Let me tell you something intimate, something I would never tell anyone else. Remember, stay away from her, don't provoke her, and try to reason with her. Don't think that just because she's a young woman, she can use coercion."

It's best to give her whatever she wants. Be agreeable. She's quite easy to talk to when things are going smoothly. But if you really anger her, carry plenty of money with you; it's better to lose money than to suffer further trouble—that's a true saying.

After thinking for a moment, he added, "Benefits are acceptable."

As he said this, he patted Old Master Li on the shoulder, as if he had said all he needed to say.

Lord Li's expression was somewhat strange, and he couldn't help but ask suspiciously, "Is this Physician Jiang really as you say?"

Sanqi: "Hmm, scary, isn't it?"

Lord Li: "Frightening?"

Sanqi nodded to himself: "She's terrifying! Anyway, it's best not to mess with her."

Lord Li was stunned by what he heard.

Sanqi recalled those days, patted Lord Li on the shoulder, and said in an old-fashioned tone, "You don't know, back then I was ahhhhh!"

He was speaking when he suddenly saw a pretty face. A pair of captivating peach blossom eyes with slightly raised eyebrows stared intently at him with dark eyes. Terrified, Sanqi screamed several times and jumped back several steps.

Jiang Nuanzhi frowned and glanced at him, then simply nodded slightly to the two of them and walked past them.

Commander Liu followed behind her, carrying several boxes, and together they headed out of the Imperial Hospital.

Watching them leave, Sanqi said in a trembling voice, "How come she's in the Imperial Hospital?!"

As if in response to Sanqi's words, a young apprentice ran out from behind them and bowed to the two: "Lord Sanqi, Lord Physician, greetings. That was Physician Jiang. Commander Liu brought Physician Jiang here to collect some medicinal herbs for the Yangxin Hall. Here is the list."

Lord Li paused for a moment, then took the list.

Before he could even get a good look, Sanqi grabbed his arm tightly. Sanqi nervously swallowed hard, her face pale as she stared at Physician Li: "I...she didn't hear what I said, did she? It's all your fault, all your fault! Why did you have to ask at this time? You're really something!"

As he said this, he touched his chest, "Luckily, I brought money with me today!"

Lord Li was stunned when he saw that Sanqi's forehead was covered with fine beads of sweat.

"Sanqi."

Before Lord Li could say a word, he heard a faint female voice.

The two of them turned their heads almost mechanically to look behind them.

Jiang Nuanzhi, who had walked ahead, was now standing in the same spot, looking in their direction.

Sanqi wiped the sweat from his forehead, and when he looked up again, he forced a smile: "Dr. Jiang, what can I do for you?"

As she spoke, she immediately jogged forward: "You've been traveling from the Great Wilderness to the capital for days. Are you getting used to it? Is there anything you're missing at your residence? If there's anything you need, just let me know, and I'll take care of it for you perfectly."

As he said this, he thumped his chest loudly.

Jiang Nuanzhi didn't even glance at him, blinked twice, and nodded, saying, "Thank you, Lord Sanqi. If you have nothing else to do, would you like to come with me to the Hall of Mental Cultivation?"

"Oh! It's alright, it's alright. Don't call me Lord Sanqi, just call me Sanqi, Little Sanqi."

As he said this, he jogged over to help Jiang Nuanzhi carry her things.

Lord Li, standing behind him, stared in disbelief. His beard twitched, and the sheet in his hand wobbled and fell to the ground without him noticing.

The young apprentice behind him glanced at Sanqi and the others who had left, then looked at the Imperial Physician in front of him, before obediently bowing his head, picking up the list of medicinal herbs, and stuffing it back into the stiff hand of the Imperial Physician.

Lord Li stared blankly at the prescription in his hand. The next second, the corner of his mouth twitched again: "His Majesty's health is very weak now. What is all this precious and highly nourishing medicinal material going to do?"

The young apprentice shrank back, not daring to utter a sound for a moment.

For a moment, Lord Li's brows furrowed so deeply they could almost trap a fly. After a long while, he finally said in a low voice:

"A method that even ordinary doctors know, how could this famous Physician Jiang of the Great Wilderness not know it? And she's so young, is she really that capable?"

"Your Excellency, you've noticed it too, haven't you?"

Several senior members of the Imperial Medical Academy gathered around, their faces solemn. "These medicinal herbs are very strange. How can His Majesty use them in his current condition? Is this Physician Jiang a charlatan? If His Majesty's health suffers any problems, I'm afraid none of us will escape unscathed."

"That's right!" the people in the Imperial Hospital echoed in unison.

"Your Excellency, could you please provide a procedure? Should we go to see His Majesty or not?"

February is almost here, but it hasn't warmed up at all.

The sky remained overcast, and light snow began to fall again.

When Jiang Nuanzhi and her party arrived at the Hall of Mental Cultivation, they saw Xiao Xuanting standing under the corridor, lost in thought.

He wasn't using an umbrella, and a layer of fine snowflakes clung to his hair. He spotted Jiang Nuanzhi in the distance and jogged down the steps of the corridor.

"Aunt Nuan, you're here."

Jiang Nuanzhi glanced at his clothes, her brows furrowed almost imperceptibly, and she quickened her pace.

"Your Highness, why are you waiting outside?" As she spoke, she shook the snow off his clothes.

Xuan Ting didn't care much; he just looked at Jiang Nuanzhi with red eyes.

No one knows how he got through the night. At this moment, Xuan Ting's eyes were completely dark, his face was thinner, his hands were ice-cold, and his lips were chapped and peeling. His expression carried a hint of stubbornness.

Jiang Nuanzhi knew what he wanted to ask and sighed softly, "Xuan Ting, I'm sorry. The Imperial Preceptor was unconscious yesterday, and I haven't found a more effective method. Please give me some more time, okay?"

Xuan Ting pursed his lips, his eyes reddening as he looked at Jiang Nuanzhi: "Is Grandpa Jing also sick?"

Jiang Nuanzhi nodded.

Xuan Ting's hand tightened suddenly: "Aunt Nuan, what should I do?"

Jiang Nuanzhi felt a pang of heartache and took his cool little hand, leading him into the Emperor's bedchamber.

"Xuan Ting, don't worry, don't panic, Aunt Nuan is here."

"Dr. Jiang, Dr. Jiang, you've finally arrived! What did the Imperial Advisor say yesterday?"

Jiang Nuanzhi and Xuan Ting had just entered the main hall and hadn't even had a chance to pay their respects to the emperor on the bed when they saw the magpie doctor looking at them with bright eyes.

On his first day as an official, Jiang Nuanzhi observed proper etiquette and bowed to the Emperor, saying, "Your humble servant greets Your Majesty!"

"No need for formalities, please sit down and talk," the Emperor waved his hand dismissively.

Eunuch Li had prepared the chairs well in advance.

Clearly, both Physician Que and the Emperor were waiting for Jiang Nuanzhi's reply.

Jiang Nuanzhi lowered her eyes: "Your Majesty, I am guilty. I failed to protect the Grand Preceptor. He was poisoned by a villain and is now unconscious. I have not found a more effective way to save him."

Upon hearing this, the Emperor paused slightly, his eyes lowering in apparent disappointment. He merely smiled faintly and said, "I already anticipated this outcome. Now, I'm afraid I'll have to trouble Physician Jiang with my health."
