Chapter 53: How can one word, "magnificent," possibly describe it?
The little boy was only half a head taller than Baozhu. He looked up with his delicate, pretty face and said seriously, "If I buy all these things, will she be able to play with me?"
As he spoke, he took out his own small pouch, put a handful of golden melon seeds next to the instant noodles.
Seeing that Jiang Nuanzhi didn't speak, he frowned and poured all the golden melon seeds from the bag onto the stall: "I also want a bowl of this noodle dish."
Seemingly wanting to eat, he stared at the noodles Jiang Nuanzhi had prepared, his little nose twitched, and he even swallowed a mouthful of saliva.
After thinking for a moment, he frowned and patted his clothes: "This is all I brought today. How about I give you my jade pendant, and I'll have my guards bring you money later."
As he spoke, he placed his jade pendant back on the stall.
Jiang Nuanzhi was stunned by his huge handful of golden melon seeds. Even in modern times, let alone in ancient times, no one had ever seen anyone carrying such a large handful around.
How can one word describe such extravagance?
Perhaps it's because of their wealth, but this child is quite handsome and lovable.
However, the handful of golden melon seeds managed to pull Jiang Nuanzhi back from her near-loss of reason. She secretly exhaled, then packed the seeds back into the pouch, tied it securely, and hung it on his belt. She also tied his jade pendant, which looked even more expensive than his necklace, to his clothes in a tight knot.
"Child, even if you don't buy anything, you can still play with Baozhu. Where are your parents? Why are you all alone?"
When Jiang Nuanzhi was packing the melon seeds, she noticed that there was even a stamp on the seeds.
At this point, gold melon seeds were no ordinary items, let alone those bearing a seal. In some dynasties throughout history, gold melon seeds were restricted to commoners, forbidden to anyone other than royalty. Jiang Nuanzhi's understanding of this world's systems was still incomplete, but she knew that this child's background was definitely not that of an ordinary wealthy family.
The young boy lowered his eyes, glanced at his money bag, then at Jiang Nuanzhi who was helping him straighten his clothes, and stared blankly into a deep daze: "I don't have a mother, and my father doesn't like me. So I came to find my grandmother."
Jiang Nuanzhi nodded: "But why are you alone? Where is your grandmother? In the future, when you go out, please remember to bring an adult with you, okay?"
"Why?"
"Because you look too rich, it's easy for people to have bad intentions. It's lucky that you ran into us, mother and daughter. If you had made a mistake, you would have lost money today."
Why didn't you have any evil thoughts?
Jiang Nuanzhi looked down and met the little boy's calm eyes, and couldn't help but find it amusing.
"I had some wicked thoughts too, but you're just too adorable, so I stopped myself." She then ruffled his hair and asked, "Do you know where home is?"
The young boy nodded: "I know."
Jiang Nuanzhi: "Then after we pack up the stall, my daughter and I will take you home."
As she spoke, she squatted down and pinched her daughter's little cheek: "Baozhu is so good, she can even serve customers for her mother now. But Baozhu, this little brother's collar is really too valuable, shall we return it to him first?"
Baozhu tilted her head and thought for a moment before nodding, "Okay."
"This is a return gift I gave her." The young boy frowned.
Baozhu refused to wear it and took it off her neck, returning it to him: "Mother said this is too precious, Baozhu can't accept it. Little brother, let's play in the mud together."
The little boy stared at the noodles Jiang Nuanzhi had prepared for a while, then glanced at the mud on his hands: "You gave me a chair you made yourself, but I haven't given you a gift in return yet."
"No need, how about you sculpt a puppy for me? I like puppies," Baozhu said.
Jiang Nuanzhi glanced silently at the indistinct lump of clay in the boy's hand. So this was the chair Xiao Baozhu had made. It was too abstract.
The two of them started kneading clay as they talked. However, the little boy kept glancing at the bowl of noodles on the table, clearly hungry.
Jiang Nuanzhi simply took one of the baskets out from under the stall, found two small stones for them to sit on, and made two bowls of noodles for the two children to eat slowly.
The jar was empty, so Jiang Nuanzhi went to the neighboring inn to borrow some water. She also grabbed two packets of noodles for the innkeeper so he could try some.
I don't know if it's because the instant noodles really smell good, or if the little boy in front of me is just too eye-catching?
It seems that passersby subconsciously look this way.
The two children were sitting there obediently, eating with gusto, which inevitably made one's mouth water.
Finally, a passerby couldn't help but come up and ask, "Boss lady, how much is a bowl of your noodles?"
Jiang Nuanzhi immediately picked up a small amount of the soaked noodles with her chopsticks and offered it to the diners to try.
"Try it first, and then I'll explain it to you in detail."
Inside the county government office.
Magistrate Feng was sitting in the high hall.
Two women below were arguing fiercely over the issue of collecting eggs. They had already scratched each other's faces and were about to start fighting again.
Magistrate Feng slammed his gavel again and again, but to no avail. Furious, he turned and stormed off.
Just then, a man dressed in black, with a very pale face and a thin build, entered.
Magistrate Feng frowned: "Who goes there? Why are you barging into the yamen without being summoned?"
At this moment, a yamen runner walked up and whispered something to Magistrate Feng.
Magistrate Feng immediately frowned and stepped down from his high position.
The man narrowed his long, narrow phoenix eyes slightly, and without saying a word, took out a golden token from his pocket and held it up in front of Magistrate Feng.
Upon seeing this, Magistrate Feng's expression brightened, and he immediately knelt down, saying, "Greetings, Your Excellency."
"Forget the formalities, quickly send a team of men with me to search for the person."
"Sir, what has happened?"
"That's not your question. All you need to know is that if our esteemed friend is lost and something happens to him, neither of us will be able to keep our heads. Also, immediately seal off the entire county as quickly as possible."
"Yes, I will go right away."
Magistrate Feng's hat had fallen off, and he didn't bother to put it back on, so he simply tossed it to the county assistant beside him.
In fact, the young boy was not difficult to find. News arrived shortly afterward, and a large group immediately set off.
Jiang Nuanzhi was completely unaware of the panic among the people in the city; she was busy serving customers at the moment.
We only made a little over eighty packs of instant noodles, and we've already sold half of them.
Many people even asked her to prepare a packet of the medicine on the spot, and then stood in front of her stall to eat it, holding the bowl.
She went to the nearby inn to borrow water, and luckily the innkeeper was kind enough to let her fetch water. He even lent her a few bowls.
When Jiang Nuanzhi returned with water again, her little stall was completely surrounded by a large crowd. For a moment, she was quite bewildered.
"Were people in ancient times so well-informed? My instant noodles are selling like hotcakes?"
