Chapter 610 Xiao Yuanshan, you must be envious, right?
Upon hearing this, Li Rong's indifferent brows furrowed slightly, and he suddenly chuckled softly.
"What are you laughing at?" Xiao Yuanshan's expression grew increasingly grim.
"I laughed at you, as if you were telling the truth, as if you had actually shown mercy to someone before."
"Li Rong!"
Xiao Yuanshan's words seemed to be squeezed out from between his teeth as he suddenly leaned closer, looking down at the seated Li Rong: "Don't think you can do whatever you want just because you've regained command of the army. You're nothing more than a dog that can be summoned and dismissed at will. Your master might not even survive today."
The last sentence was spoken in a voice close to Li Rong's ear, so that only the two of them could hear it.
Li Rong's dark eyes flickered, and he suddenly stood up in a daze.
Xiao Yuanshan narrowed his eyes and stared intently at Li Rong's movements with a wary expression. Clearly, the ministers behind him were also on high alert.
However, the next second, Li Rong didn't even glance at them, but turned around and walked directly towards the entrance of the Emperor's bedroom.
"Li Rong, what do you want to do?"
Li Rong completely ignored Xiao Yuanshan and his group, and instead handed a bag of pastries to one of the eunuchs: "Take this in to Physician Jiang. This is medicine for Physician Jiang. She is weak and cannot properly treat the Emperor without taking this. You must make sure Physician Jiang takes it."
Li Rong calculated that it had been exactly one hour, and Ah Nuan should be hungry.
Upon hearing Li Rong's words, the young eunuch dared not delay and immediately ran into the room with the things in his hands to report back.
Xiao Yuanshan narrowed his eyes as he looked at Li Rong, especially at the little eunuch's back, his gaze darkening: "Li Rong, isn't it a bit too late for you to send a message to your wife now?"
He then scoffed, "Even if she's incredibly capable, she can't cure a dying man. Li Rong, you're really becoming more and more useless. Who would have thought that a mighty war god would stoop so low as to rely on women for everything?"
As he said this, the ministers who were on good terms with Xiao Yuanshan exchanged smiles and looked at Li Rong with malice.
Grand Tutor Fang and Prince Su sat calmly, seemingly oblivious to their surroundings, as if they had never heard a word they were saying.
Li Rong remained silent for a long time, and the air seemed to quiet down.
After a while, Li Rong suddenly turned his head back to look at Xiao Yuanshan, and twitched the corner of his mouth: "Xiao Yuanshan, you're very envious, aren't you?"
"What's wrong with you?" Xiao Yuanshan's expression froze for a moment, his eyes filled with suspicion and confusion as he looked at Li Rong.
"You envy me for having such a wife, don't you?" Li Rong puffed out his chest, his voice becoming clearer: "When I met my wife, I was paralyzed from the waist down, unable to move. But now she has healed me, and my skills are even better than before."
As if to prove it, he slammed his palm down on the table in front of him, shattering it into pieces. Yet, the table slowly collapsed, demonstrating an astonishing control over his internal energy.
Even Xiao Yuanshan's face darkened as he watched.
Grand Tutor Fang's eyes flickered, and he withdrew his gaze from the table, lowering his eyes as if lost in thought.
Before Li Rong could finish speaking, he added, "We are husband and wife, married when I was at my lowest point. She never looked down on me, never betrayed me, and even single-handedly shouldered the burden of supporting the family. I know you envy me, after all, you once had a wife like her, whom you later lost."
"Li! Rong!" Xiao Yuanshan's eyes were bloodshot as he stared intently at Li Rong, as if he wanted to pounce on him and devour his flesh and drink his blood the next second: "Shut up! Don't spout nonsense! It's her!"
He stopped mid-sentence, and a glimmer of reason returned to his bloodshot eyes.
He gave a cold sneer: "Why should I envy you? My wife is a thousand times better than anyone else's."
Li Rong raised an eyebrow: "Really?"
Xiao Yuanshan gritted his teeth: "What exactly are you trying to say?"
"It's nothing," Li Rong said lightly. "I just feel like you've forgotten what you used to be like."
As he spoke, Li Rong met Xiao Yuanshan's wary gaze in a daze and laughed: "Your Highness, when you go to sleep at night, think about it with your heart, who was by your side when you were sick and weak as a child? Now that you are at the height of your power, don't forget that fortunes change. If one day you fall into ruin like me, will the people by your side still be there for you?"
Xiao Yuanshan's face turned ashen, but then he suddenly remembered someone and laughed: "Li Rong, you're too arrogant. Do you think you're the only one in this world who has a true friend?"
When he was in trouble, that frail figure stood beside him. What makes Li Rong think he won't meet a good man again? What makes him think young couples won't change their minds and betray each other? What does he know?
As Xiao Yuanshan spoke, his eyes turned bloodshot again.
However, the next second, he felt a weight on his shoulder. Turning around, he saw the aged hand of Grand Secretary Zhang pressing on his shoulder. Grand Secretary Zhang noticed something was wrong with Xiao Yuanshan and whispered in his ear, "Your Highness, calm down. This Li Rong is trying to disturb your peace of mind. We still have important matters to attend to."
Xiao Yuanshan snapped out of his daze and realized that he had actually gone off to discuss matters of the heart with Li Rong.
"Li Rong!"
“I’m right here, Your Highness. There’s no need to shout. I can hear you.”
As Li Rong spoke, he sat down again in his armchair and closed his eyes to rest. He didn't even open his eyes.
As expected, Xiao Yuanshan jumped up and down again.
However, his anger was quickly calmed down by the officials behind him. He said resentfully, "Fine, Li Rong. I'll see how long you can keep laughing!"
As he spoke, he sat down, touching his teeth. He was waiting to see Xuan Lang die, to see Li Rong's dream of being reinstated shattered, and to see him hand over Wudu!
In fact, the other ministers around him were now feeling uneasy.
After all, Li Rong's description of Jiang Nuanzhi's life-saving and wound-healing medical skills left everyone uncertain whether she could actually bring the Emperor back to life. No one dared to act rashly, and they all held their breath, waiting for news from the front.
Li Rong couldn't help but twitch the corner of his mouth.
He suddenly realized that Ah Nuan's method was really effective. He had actually developed this skill of speaking by spending so much time with Ah Nuan.
Without losing a single soldier, and seeing that Xiao Yuanshan on the other side was about to suffer internal injuries from holding it in, he was quite pleased with himself. A very novel experience.
I just don't know how Ah Nuan is doing now.
Thinking this, he also looked worriedly into the inner room.
Even through the window, one could still see the shadows of palace servants coming and going.
Finally, after an unknown amount of time, Eunuch Li emerged from the house and headed towards the ministers. His eyes were red and swollen.
With a sudden movement, Grand Tutor Fang lost his composure and rushed over to see Eunuch Li: "How is His Majesty's health?"
In fact, everyone was already restless, including Xiao Yuanshan, who stared intently at Eunuch Li.
