Chapter 17: Atavism (Part 1)

In reality, the decapitation operation against the Zerg went very smoothly. The Zerg Queen was killed, the crew escaped unscathed, and the return journey was halfway completed, but an accident did occur.

Alger Lecter, a hybrid transformed into a pure-blooded merman, experienced a reversion to his ancestral form at an unpredictable rate. Other personnel involved in the operation also suffered varying degrees of physical discomfort. Based on their investigation, the accompanying doctor speculated that some substance from the worm mother's nest had invaded the human body.

However, because there has been very little information left about the Zerg Queen, and its nest is even more secretive, everyone was at a loss as to where to start.

Since technology is of no use, then magic is the only option. Xu Shiqing stepped forward, and under the gazes of others who said "this amount of magic power is ridiculous", he used a set of purification, dispelling and healing skills in a small chain, and even pulled up the dying people to dance on the spot.

Alger had to stop what he was doing. Fortunately, the war had entered its final stages. Wars in the interstellar age were always swift, and thanks to the power of technology, the number of lives lost was merely a number added to the death list in an instant.

After the emperor of the Imperial Capital Star learned about the situation, he sent another person to end the war, his name was Sieglin.

The adjutant next to Sieglin is the protagonist of the world, Anthony.

Now that everything was arranged, Alger turned around and began to deal with his own problems.

During this period, due to his atavism, he always felt a lingering restlessness in his heart. The war and personal matters were mixed together, the former making him nervous and the latter making him anxious.

The mermaid's tail unconsciously stirred the water in the pool, and the splashing water slid down the side of the elf's face sitting by the pool.

"Alger, you need to stay calm."

Xu Shiqing shook the waterproof scroll. Not only the scroll, but the clothes on his body were all high-end goods with dozens of layers of magic. Even the claws of the dragons could not cut through them, just running water.

"I feel the ocean is calling me." When Alger heard his words, instead of calming down, he gave up on himself. His beautiful blue gradient fish tail danced even more vigorously: "It is calling me to go to the bottom of the sea, deeper, to fight, hunt..." and build a nest.

I wanted to hide the elf in a carefully prepared nest, to imbue it with my scent, to make its eyes only focus on me...

Everyone says that dragons are greedy, but now Alger feels that the desires of mermaids are even greater.

Something flashed in his black pupils, but Xu Shiqing couldn't see it clearly.

"This area is entirely barren, with no conditions for the formation of water bodies..." the elf soothed, "We are already approaching the nearest habitable planet. You will be in the sea then."

You can travel however you like then.

"...I don't want to..." Alger sank to the bottom of the pool, with only the part above his lips exposed, looking very depressed.

How could he tolerate building their nest with some mundane things in such a random place?

"I don't want to go there." I don't want to face you in such an imperfect way.

"...But this place is a million miles away from the 'nest' you chose." Xu Shiqing knew that Alger was motivated by this, so he pulled him aside and said, "You can definitely help me choose a planet with a good environment." Then the two of them spent a long time looking through the private and tradable planets in the empire's catalog. In the end, Alger even wanted to rush to the constellation where the mermaids live and force the sale of a planet, and then launch an interstellar technological transformation.

"You want a natural environment like Nachu's, comparable to the elves' habitat, and yet you also want vast expanses of mountains, rivers, and seas suitable for mermaid survival—why don't you go to space?" Leonardo said. "Do you know how rare it is to find a natural planet suitable for fantasy species to live on?"

Alger didn't care about Leonardo's life or death, he refused to give in on his demands.

The emperor gritted his teeth and finally found a planet that met the requirements, but it was a "glass house" planet only the size of a satellite.

The characteristic of this kind of planet is that it is extremely rich in spiritual energy and other chaotic forces, but this also forms a thick barrier layer on the surface of the planet. Any sophisticated technology will fail here due to the chaotic energy - so generally only fantasy species who are practicing in seclusion will go there, and humans will end up trapped and dying here.

"I can bear it." Alger hugged the elf's calf and looked up at him pitifully. "If we don't use the planet we specially selected, wouldn't that be a waste of effort?"

Isn't this a bit strange?

Xu Shiqing felt a flicker of strangeness in his heart, but in front of Alger's face, which had become even more terrifying since his bloodline reverted to its ancestral form, he covered his lips with his hand and ignored the feeling, subconsciously avoiding the merman's gaze: "...but that's too uncomfortable."

And it wasn't just uncomfortable. Having to endure the rejection of one's own bloodline was painful enough for a hybrid atavism, and now even the instincts and desires of another bloodline had to be suppressed, effectively denying them any outlet for their emotions.

There was no need to elaborate on the destructive power of the Fantasy Seed. If it weren't for the need to appease Alger and prevent him from accidentally destroying the spaceship and leaving everyone drifting in outer space, Xu Shiqing wouldn't have had to keep an eye on him all these days.

This was just the appetizer before Alger's true atavism period arrived. When his mermaid bloodline officially began to wash away the etiquette and restraint taught by humans in his bones, Alger would begin to respond to the call of the ocean, and instead call, control, and finally dominate the ocean. Then, the mermaids would begin to build nests to welcome his estrus period. Mermaids at this stage were the most ferocious and would not tolerate any unfamiliar auras approaching.

...Xu Shiqing was worried that Alger would tear the other people on the spaceship to pieces on the way.
