Chapter 4 Nature's Malice

Fortunately, the tourist Xu Shiqing met was a warm and friendly person. After realizing this, he communicated with him in the local language he was not familiar with.

"My aircraft and the star network are both unusable." Alger began to rejoice over this bad luck, for this encounter and for his next words: "Could you please take me back to the city?"

Admiral Alger was a man who knew how to seize opportunities and make the most of everything he had. At this moment, he disguised himself as an ordinary human tourist in need of help, and it was as easy as a wolf lying in wait before hunting.

"Of course, welcome to Cosette Prairie." The elf smiled politely.

But God, he was good looking.

Alger looked at him carefully, and the more he looked, the more satisfied he became, and the more he liked him. When the elf asked him his name a little embarrassedly, the admiral woke up as if from a dream, told him his name earnestly and tenderly, and then asked for the name of his beloved.

"My name is Pani." The elf seemed to be laughing across the campfire. "I come from the Great Forest of Bordeaux."

Bordeaux was the sphere of influence of the Temple of Nature. Considering the elves' recent dance, which had a strong sense of ritual, and the lingering smell of blood and the remains of corpses on the ground, Alger had already begun to suspect something about the other party.

Xu Shiqing had no idea what Alger was thinking; he simply felt the man before him was overly enthusiastic. Instinctively, he felt wary, and after noticing that he had somewhat restrained himself, Xu Shiqing realized that perhaps he was being too sensitive.

This is the new world.

He told himself that it was not the end of the world, so it was okay to relax a little.

Xu Shiqing then thought about how no one in this world knew him. Pani's identity as the High Priest was impossible to reveal due to the unreasonable restrictions of theocracy. So the person before him couldn't possibly be hoping to gain anything from him. The only explanation was that this was his nature.

Thinking of this, Xu Shiqing calmed down again.

System 021 had just hesitantly told him that headquarters wanted to see him. After hesitating for a while, Xu Shiqing took Alger to follow the other party's trail, listened to his reaction, and directly asked him to leave.

'Don't worry about me,' he said.

[Host! I'll be back soon!] 021 made a vow and gave him a bunch of life-saving measures before reluctantly leaving, which made Xu Shiqing a little amused.

Back to the present, Xu Shiqing took the stranger back to the place where he accidentally landed. After checking the situation, they decided to rest here for one night.

Whether on the grassland or not, night was not a good time to set off. Furthermore, the aircraft's still intact fuselage clearly made it a suitable temporary residence.

Xu Shiqing traced the wolf's ears down to its back. His fondness for it was evident, yet his sadness was also palpable. Alger watched, his fingers moving slightly, but he did nothing, and offered no warning.

Elves and humans were educated differently, and magic and spiritual power were two separate realms. Pani, however, was clearly a typical member of the temple staff, inexperienced and unfamiliar with the human spirit.

"Is this the undead?" Xu Shiqing found a species that barely matched the one in front of him from the knowledge Ronnie taught him, and said with some envy, "It can accompany you for a long, long time."

And his wolf and all life on the grassland are destined to leave him because he is an elf.

The gray wolf rubbed the side of his face, and its nose bumped against the scattered ornaments. It soon found the fun and realized that these small things in front of it would make funny noises when touched. The wolf arched its back even more happily, and its huge body almost crushed Xu Shiqing to the ground.

Alger took the opportunity to step forward, holding the gray wolf and dragging it backwards, causing Xu Shiqing to look incredibly helpful. He then pressed on, quickly employing the sweet talk he'd learned from social gatherings like banquets in his youth. Within a few rounds, he had visibly lowered the elf's guard and even warmed to it.

They even made a promise to revisit their respective hometowns if they had the chance. On this natural grassland, free from social constraints, the true nature of living things seemed to blossom. Alger opened his arms, the wind washing over his body. It felt like being silent in the universe, or being gently embraced by the waves.

"I feel my body becoming very relaxed!" he shouted to the elves by the campfire, with incredible liveliness.

Xu Shiqing held the gray wolf in his arms and slowly injected the magic he had learned into the Undead's body. He smiled upon hearing this: "That's great! Let's do it again tomorrow!"

"Okay!" Alger ran on the grass. He hadn't been so reckless in a long time. The stars in the night sky flickered in different shades. The clouds moved, a few steps slower than the wind, but much faster than people.

He ran a certain distance and felt that he had reached the edge of the safe area, so he walked back slowly. From a distance, he saw the brown-haired elf holding the wolf's head, closing his eyes and pressing his forehead against the other's.

The firelight outlined the elf's deep and beautiful features. The items on his body reflected the firelight and appeared to be shining, as if he was adorned with dazzling jewels.

It's so beautiful that you can't take your eyes off it... and you want to own it.

He shook his head, feeling the absurdity of the idea, yet also finding it perfectly reasonable. The nobles' extravagant and greedy nature was undoubtedly present in Alger's character. He wasn't a good person, and he knew it, but Alger wasn't one to repay kindness with enmity. The other had helped him, healing his otherwise hopeless wounds. So, even if he truly loved the elf, Alger would never follow the practices of the nobles around him. Even though the canary was indeed beautiful and charming.
