Chapter 14 Walk Away

"Master, my legs hurt."

"Go away."

Lin Zhaoxi stopped suddenly, and Lu Zhihao failed to brake and hit her back. She staggered and turned to Comrade Xiao Lu and said, "My master told you to leave."

Comrade Xiao Lu's face turned red with frustration, and Lao Lin turned around to look at her, with a look in his eyes that probably meant "how can you be so shameless?"

Of course, they are all inherited from you.

Lao Lin was really cruel to her. No matter how she acted coquettishly, Lao Lin just ignored her, so she simply ignored the injuries on her body and ran after Lao Lin. The scratches on a child's body would dry up automatically after running two laps.

For most of the next day, she followed the rhythm of where Lao Lin went. She patrolled the venue with him, slacked off, held up a large parasol, watched the two grandfathers in the pavilion play chess, and listened to the old man playing the erhu for a while.

Although her dream of returning to her roots as a rich second-generation was shattered before it was fully formed, being able to return to Old Lin was better than anything else.

But Lin Chaoxi didn't know what happened to Lao Lin in this world? Why didn't Lao Lin choose to be her father, nor did he choose to study abroad? She had a lot of questions to ask Lao Lin, but she didn't know where to start because of her current identity.

Just as she was looking at Lao Lin's figure in deep thought, two sanitation workers came by the park pond with baskets and rowed a small boat, preparing to pick up the garbage in the pond.

In a flash, Lao Lin took a few quick steps and jumped onto the boat. He picked up the bamboo pole and pushed the boat forward. The small wooden boat swayed away from the shore.

There was finally a hint of satisfaction on Lao Lin's dark and wrinkled face.

Lin Chaoxi stood on the shore, not in a hurry. She chose a shade from a tree, sat down on a rock, took out her math Olympiad book and exercise book, and started reading.

The small wooden boat drifted slowly on the water, which was perfect for reviewing the concept of sailing on flowing water. Lin Chaoxi started with the most basic questions, plugged in the formulas and tried to calculate, and soon mastered them.

She would read for a while, then look at the lake. Thanks to her life experience, she knew that there was only one dock on the entire pond, and no matter where Lao Lin sailed to, he would always come back.

The breeze was gentle, the sun was setting, and the boat finally came to shore. The sanitation workers carried the basket full of garbage to shore, but Lao Lin was still standing on the boat. He was sweating all over, and he looked at her with his arms folded, as if he was giving her an ultimatum.

"Why don't you leave?" Lao Lin said.

Lin Zhaoxi nodded, folded a corner of the Mathematical Olympiad book, turned around and looked at Lu Zhihao, saying seriously: "Go away, my master is unhappy."

"Hey!" Comrade Xiao Lu was sleeping soundly under the tree. When he heard this, he stared at her with his small eyes.

"Don't play dumb, I'm talking to you!" In a flash, Lao Lin jumped onto the shore and grabbed her ear.

Lin Zhaoxi fluttered twice, then waved at Lu Zhihao unwillingly: "Go away."

In early summer, the air is filled with heat and the sound of cicadas, every sound is very clear. In the park, the shadows of the trees are swaying and the paths are deep and secluded.

"Tell me, why are you following me?"

Lin Chaoxi followed Lao Lin to the guard room and watched him pick up the thermos and fill the teacup with water, then open the newspaper and start reading the entertainment section about gossip about celebrities keeping mistresses.

She was locked outside, so she leaned over the window and smiled at Lao Lin in a servile manner: "Master, why did you come to save me just now?"

"I didn't save you."

"But you just chased the bad guy away."

Old Lin raised his hand, and Lin Chaoxi took a half step back in fear. Old Lin pointed his rough finger at a warning sign at the door, which read "No stalls allowed in the park."

"Oh." That's why you chased the cheater away.

Lin Chaoxi continued, "My legs hurt, Master."

Lao Lin no longer wanted to say "Go get treatment if your legs hurt" for the ten thousandth time; even Lu Zhihao, who had been following her, was too lazy to say it.

"Master, my legs hurt!" Lin Chaoxi continued.

Old Lin angrily threw the newspaper and slammed the window frame: "Come in, come in, let me in."

Lin Chaoxi, carrying her schoolbag, glanced proudly at her little follower Lu Zhihao, and walked into the guard room with a swagger.

Lu Zhihao stood at the door. The clock in the guard room had just struck five. He said, "I'm going to my interest class. Lin Zhaoxi, please don't disturb others at work."

"I'm so principled, I won't do that."

"You have no principles at all. You just ran around with someone for a long time. Do you want to be recognized as your father?"

Lin Chaoxi sucked in a breath of cold air. What’s wrong with the people in their cheese world? They are all so sharp!

She hurried to see Lao Lin, fearing that he would react, but Lao Lin kept his head down, as if he didn't hear the conversation outside the house at all.

After Comrade Xiao Lu finished speaking, he turned around and ran away, looking really anxious.

Lin Chaoxi walked into the guard room and stood obediently beside Lao Lin. In the distance was the back of Comrade Xiao Lu running towards the setting sun: "Master, he is finally gone."

Lao Lin opened the drawer and took out a roll of gauze and alcohol cotton. There were also some iodine and other medicines in the drawer. They were probably prepared for tourists who were accidentally injured. After all, there were a lot of children running around and making noise in the park.

She consciously sat on a chair, rolled up her trouser legs to expose her bruised knees, and then looked at Lao Lin eagerly.

Lao Lin just...just threw the alcohol cotton over.

The electric fan in the guard room was whirring, and Lin Chaoxi decided to stop while he was ahead.

She sat with her knees hugged, and began to wipe away the dirt and blood on her knees bit by bit. The alcohol was icy and cool, and it permeated her breath. Because of the pain, her tears fell uncontrollably.

"Why are you crying now that he's gone?" asked Lao Lin.

"I'm not crying." Lin Chaoxi sniffed, ruthlessly wiped off the mud on his knees, took a breath of cool air, and almost cried out, "He's actually a good person. I helped him, and he was afraid that I would be deceived by bad people, so he kept following me."

"I am the bad guy, why are you following me?"

"Master is not a bad person." Lin Zhaoxi said idiotically.

Lao Lin didn't continue.

After a while, she wanted to ask Lao Lin to change a piece of alcohol cotton, but she found that Lao Lin was staring at her seriously.

Lin Zhaoxi: "Fuck... why are you looking at me? My legs still hurt. Don't chase me away!"

"I'm watching, how can people be so stupid."

"ah?"

"Others will come to inform the park management if they know something has happened. Do you want to run into them?"

"I'm stupid." Lin Chaoxi answered as a matter of course.

The person they were referring to was of course Pei Zhi. Judging from what Lao Lin said, Pei Zhi should have informed the park management staff long ago. He delayed the mental arithmetic king for a while, and when the management staff arrived, he left as nothing happened.

Compared to Pei Zhi, she was so straightforward and tough, which was of course stupid.

However, at this moment, although she was sitting on a small wooden stool with red eyes and legs hugged, her legs were all injured and looked pitiful, but in fact she was very happy. She really thought so. If she hadn't been so stupid and reckless, how could she have met Pei Zhi by such a coincidence, and, more importantly, met Lao Lin again?

Lao Lin couldn't look at her anymore. He turned around, took a cigarette from the cigarette box, and raised his lighter.

Lin Chaoxi coughed loudly, but Old Lin seemed not to hear it at all. He drooped his eyelids and lit a cigarette.

"Master, smoking is not good. I am still a primary school student and I cannot smoke in front of primary school students." Lin Chaoxi pointed at himself and said sternly.

She actually knew that Lao Lin smoked, but she only saw him smoking once in her memory. It seemed that one night, there was a quarrel at home, she heard the door slamming, and got up sleepily. Lao Lin was sitting in the yard looking at the sky, holding a cigarette from nowhere between his fingertips. Under the starry sky, Lao Lin turned around and looked at her.

At that time, Lao Lin's eyes were the same as now, cold and indifferent, heartless and ruthless, as if he was about to ascend to heaven. But the moment he saw her, he put out the cigarette.

However, later on, no matter how she asked, Old Lin at that time never told her what happened. So Old Lin now would not open up to a little girl he had never met before.

She stared at Lao Lin, not knowing what was going on and was very worried.

"Master, why do you work in the park?" she asked tentatively.

"Because I'm poor."

“…”

"Where are your family members?" she asked again.

However, Lao Lin slowly finished a cigarette. When the clock struck half past five, he stood up from his chair, put out his cigarette, and walked out of the guard room.

Lao Lin turned around to look at her, his face tearful and desperate: "I beg you, can you please not follow me?"

"no."

"What on earth do you want?"
