The Beloved Heiress's Dark Side (3)
Qu Chen's ball was parked at the gate. Qu Chen picked it up and continued playing.
Jian Tanxi and Meng Yuening stepped forward, knocked loudly on the door, and asked, "Is anyone inside?"
However, no one answered for quite a while.
Meng Yuening pressed her ear against the door, listening intently.
Jian Tanxi asked in a whisper, "How is it?"
Meng Yuening answered softly, "I heard some painful sounds. There might be wounded inside, and quite a few of them."
As they were figuring out how to get in, they suddenly heard a whooshing sound overhead.
They instinctively dodged to the side, and two arrows grazed their heads before hitting the ground.
Luckily they dodged quickly, otherwise those two arrows would have hit their heads.
Judging from the direction of the arrow, the archer must have been at a high place.
They looked up and saw the curtains swaying at the second-floor window. It was clear that the archer had just hidden behind the curtains, which was why they were moving.
Meng Yuening instinctively pulled out an arrow, intending to throw it back.
But then she remembered that her special ability was 100% accurate throwing. If this arrow killed the person on the second floor, it would violate the game rules, and none of the players would be able to pass the level.
So she hesitated and simply held the arrow in her hand.
Unexpectedly, the archer shot two more arrows at them.
Meng Yuening changed her strategy. She pushed the arrow in her hand horizontally, which blocked the two newly shot arrows. In the end, all three arrows fell to the ground together.
This time, Jian Tanxi and Meng Yuening saw clearly that the archer was a young girl, probably in her early twenties.
Seeing that the girl was about to hide behind the curtain again, Jian Tanxi quickly said, "Don't attack us! We're here to catch zombies!"
To everyone's surprise, the girl simply pulled back the curtains and shouted at them, "Don't lie to me! You two used to be the Ou family's nannies, you're definitely in cahoots with Ou Bao'er!"
Jian Tanxi and Meng Yuening didn't know how the girl knew about this, but recalling that Ou Bao'er had a birthday party before, which had many guests, the girl who shot the arrow might have been one of them.
Jian Tanxi quickly explained, "We used to be Ou Bao'er's nannies, but we left a long time ago. We didn't know that Ou Bao'er had turned evil, let alone that so many zombies had appeared in the Ou family. We have healing pills on hand. If you trust us, we can help heal the wounded."
The girl who was shooting arrows was still hesitating when an old man's voice rang out from downstairs: "Lilith, don't attack them. They don't look like bad people. Why don't you let them in and see?"
"No," said Lilith, the archery girl. "What if they're accomplices of the Ou family?"
Meng Yuening asked, "Do we look like zombies to you?"
Lilith said, "You're not zombies, but it's hard to say you're not working for the Ou family. You might capture us and let the Ou family's zombies suck our blood."
Jian Tanxi said, "No, we are also victims of the Ou family. When we worked as nannies for the Ou family, we were often bullied. You must have been a guest at the Ou family before, so you should have noticed this to some extent. How could we possibly help the Ou family?"
Lilith thought it made sense, so she went downstairs.
Then, an old man opened the door.
There were about a dozen wounded people lying in the courtyard, including the old and the young, men and women. Without exception, they all had bloodstains on their faces, hands or necks, and were pale and trembling.
Although it's hot, they are all covered with blankets.
Lilith stood in the middle of the courtyard, holding a bow and arrow, looking somewhat wary.
The old man who opened the door was alright, but he looked very distressed.
Jian Tanxi and Meng Yuening went inside and looked at the wounded on the ground.
Jian Tanxi asked, "Were they all bitten by the Ou family's zombies?"
The old man replied, "Yes, it was the eldest son of the Ou family who bit him. The men of the Ou family have all turned into zombies. They seem to need to keep biting normal people and sucking their blood to survive. However, they don't bite just anyone. It seems that once they've bitten a certain number of people, they leave."
Why are they all covered with blankets?
"Because after being bitten by a zombie, they are very afraid of the cold, so they need to cover themselves with a blanket while sunbathing."
Meng Yuening squatted down to check all the wounded, then said to Jian Tanxi, "There are 11 wounded in total, all of them are still alive, but their vital signs vary."
The old man replied, "Yes, some people have been bitten for three days, some for two days, and some for one day, so the symptoms vary in severity."
Jian Tanxi took out 11 healing pills and put them into the mouths of the wounded soldiers, and all of them recovered.
Now, everyone here completely trusts Jian Tanxi and Meng Yuening.
This is a large mansion, but there are relatively few people in the courtyard. Many people are leaning out of the windows of various rooms, looking into the courtyard.
I suspect there are quite a few healthy people hiding here.
The old man asked, "What happened after you left the Ou family? How did you end up back here?"
Jian Tanxi said, "There's no time to explain too much now. Do you know where the eldest young master of the Ou family went?"
"It seems they've headed southwest..."
"There are so many healthy people here, why doesn't he just stay nearby and attack you when the opportunity arises?"
The old man said, "Zombies don't seem to have that much intelligence... After drinking the blood of a few people, he wasn't hungry anymore and left directly. He didn't think of lurking here."
Jian Tanxi nodded.
A zombie that only knows how to suck blood and bite people, but has little intelligence, should be easier to deal with.
Meng Yuening asked, "What are the zombies' attack methods?"
Lilith said, "Zombies seem to be immune to pain and don't bleed. Even if they are wounded in vital areas, they don't seem to die. I shot Young Master Ou in the head with an arrow before, but he just pulled the arrow out of his head and it didn't affect his movement. Moreover, he is very strong. He can bite and suck blood from any part of a healthy person he grabs."
Are zombies fast?
"It's not fast, but once you make eye contact with it, it seems like you won't move and can only wait for it to grab you. Several wounded soldiers fell victim to it this way. Moreover, it can release poison gas. If you inhale the gas, it seems like you'll walk directly towards it without it even having to grab you. So, zombies are quite dangerous. When we were fighting it, we didn't dare get too close to it."
Hearing this, Jian Tanxi and Meng Yuening understood: they should not make eye contact with the zombies, and they should be wary of the poison gas released by the zombies.
Jian Tanxi asked, "What are the characteristics of zombies?"
"His head was tilted to one side, his eyes were vacant, his hands liked to be stretched out in front, and sharp teeth grew out of his mouth, like the teeth of a wild beast."
Do you know why Ou Bao'er turned evil? What's the way to restore the Ou family to normal?
Everyone shook their heads and said, "I don't know."
After gathering intelligence, they bid farewell to the group and then headed southwest in pursuit.
After walking for about twenty minutes, they found the eldest son of the Ou family under a tree.
They stood behind the young master, not daring to disturb him.
Qu Chen was drawn to the butterflies nearby and chased after them, so Jian Tanxi and Meng Yuening followed him. After all, it would be safer without Qu Chen there; they could simply go find him after the battle was over.
The young master was shrouded in a gray, poisonous gas, as if he had put on a protective shield.
Jian Tanxi and Meng Yuening dared not engage him in close combat, fearing they would be affected by the poisonous gas around him.
Meng Yuening has a vine that can entangle others.
She tried to shake off the vines, but the young master heard the sound of the vines cutting through the air. He turned around and grabbed the other side of the vine.
He pulled hard on the vine, but couldn't break it, so he simply pulled hard and pulled the whole vine over, then held it and looked at it.
Fortunately, he didn't know how to use the tool; he simply wrapped the vines around his hands.
He determined that Jian Tanxi and Meng Yuening were both healthy people, so he walked towards them.
Meng Yuening whispered to Jian Tanxi, "Whatever you do, don't make eye contact with him."
Jian Tanxi nodded: "I understand, I'm watching the ground."
The two women didn't run away; instead, they pondered a solution.
Meng Yuening picked up a sharp stone and threw it at the young master's temple.
Her special ability was 100% accurate throwing (only effective for the first three throws). This time, the stone hit the young master's temple squarely.
But the young master was completely unaffected; he reached into his temple and pulled the stone out. His temple, which had been smashed into a large crater, slowly healed, like a piece of elastic rubber.
Meng Yuening felt both horrified and disgusted; goosebumps rose on her skin.
Jian Tanxi said in a low voice, "We need to find a way to make him open his mouth, and then feed him a sleeping pill."
Meng Yuening continued to grab stones and relentlessly hit the young master. Although it didn't hurt him at all, the frequent attacks still enraged him.
He roared and lunged at Jian Tanxi and Meng Yuening.
While he was opening his mouth, Meng Yuening took out a sleeping pill and put it into his mouth.
Although the sleeping pill was thrown in, the young master took it out and threw it on the ground, but did not fall asleep.
Normally, a sleeping pill only needs to be moistened with saliva and absorbed by the body in small amounts to be effective.
But zombies may not saliva anymore, so the sleeping pills won't work on them.
At this moment, Meng Yuening took a small desk lamp out of her bag and threw it at the young master.
The small lamp stopped half a meter in front of the young master and then began to spin wildly.
When the young master saw the rotating lamp, his eyes began to dart from side to side.
He fainted shortly afterward.
After he fainted, the poison gas was no longer around him, which suggests that the poison gas can only be released when he is conscious.
So Meng Yuening quickly stepped forward and used the vines to tie up the young master.
Once bound by vines, it's almost impossible to break free on one's own. At least, a zombie like the young master would have no chance of escaping.
The lamp stopped spinning and flew back into Meng Yuening's hand.
Jian Tanxi asked, "Sister Meng, what kind of desk lamp is this?"
"This is one of the props I acquired, called a rotating lamp. It can spin at high speed and make the person closest to it dizzy. I used this lamp to knock out the young master, but the effect only lasts for 20 minutes. I still need to give him a sleeping pill to be on the safe side."
Jian Tanxi pried open the young master's mouth and found that it was indeed very dry, with almost no saliva.
So Jian Tanxi took some water and put it into her boiling teapot, and the water boiled quickly.
She picked up the sleeping pill from the ground, put it into the teapot, and the boiling water quickly dissolved it.
Then Jian Tanxi fed all the water to the young master.
Since the young master couldn't swallow, Jian Tanxi and Meng Yuening positioned him in a semi-reclining position and then slightly lifted his chin.
Now, the water mixed with the sleeping pills was all poured into his stomach, and he should be able to sleep for another five hours.
