Chapter 50 Tracking Morax's Residence
Arriving at the cave dwelling, looking at the seal on the door, Qiao Xi thought that once she was fully formed, she would be able to come and go freely.
Right now, Yi Xiao was in front of the cave, breaking the seal. He stood aside and waited for Morax to go in before following behind him. He gave Qiao Xi a wink, as if to say: Stop daydreaming and hurry up and catch up.
Qiao Xi followed behind Yi Xiao, feeling a little confused. Yi Xiao had just said that Morax was going back to change clothes and rest and wouldn't be eating with them, but the three of them had been walking together ever since they left Zhuyuan.
Could it be that Morax's residence is also inside this cave?
At this moment, Qiao Xi stepped on the lotus leaves and looked up at the vast world of the cave, wondering just how much this place, conjured by immortal magic, could hold.
Qiao Xi couldn't help but look at Morax. She thought of the day she broke into this place and encountered Morax's dragon horns and tail. The scene from that day was still vivid in her mind, and she could even recall the feeling of sitting on the dragon tail.
Looking at the vast water surface and the intersecting paths between heaven and earth, Qiao Xi wondered where Morax actually lived.
I'm in a relationship but I don't know where my boyfriend lives.
If she told her good friend Chen Niannian, Niannian would definitely think she had been deceived.
Qiao Xi couldn't help but smile as she imagined the scene. She wondered what kind of expression Chen Niannian would have if she saw Morax.
Morax noticed Qiao Xi's inexplicable self-laughing and wondered what the girl was thinking. He frowned slightly.
Qiao Xi pulled herself out of her reverie. She glanced at Morax and, finding him looking at her too, instinctively looked away at Yi Xiao. Master Yi Xiao wasn't looking at her, so she relaxed slightly and continued focusing on moving her lotus leaf.
Upon arriving at the pavilion in the middle of the lake, Morax bid farewell to the two men and then left via the connecting corridor on the right.
Qiao Xi looked at Morax's back and guessed that the direction should lead to where Morax lived.
After finishing her meal, Qiao Xi respectfully bid farewell to her masters and left on lotus leaves. However, on her way out, she changed direction and headed in the direction Morax had left not long ago.
Because all of this was done in secret, Qiao Xi dared not take the right path.
She placed the lotus leaf in the middle of the corridor, then climbed up by gripping the railing with both hands.
There was no one around, only the faint fragrance of lotus flowers in the air.
Qiao Xi tossed her simple high ponytail, feeling that she had great potential to be a secret agent. However, she wondered why she wanted to go to Morax's place so much.
She didn't know; she just wanted to go.
She sometimes felt she didn't understand Morax.
What if Morax gets angry after being discovered?
Qiao Xi shook her head, deciding not to care anymore; Morax was angry, but she couldn't just throw her down the mountain.
With that thought in mind, Qiao Xi steadied herself and headed in the direction Morax had left.
But she quickly lost her bearings, because after stepping out of the connecting corridor, she was faced with a chaotic array of routes.
Qiao Xi was stunned. She looked back at the road she had come from. It was still not too late to go back. At least she could find her way back now.
But, since we're already here...
Qiao Xi gritted her teeth and started moving forward.
She walked on a path woven from golden light. At first, she couldn't find her way, but as she walked, she was surprised to find faint footprints on the golden path.
She can see her own footprints in the places she has walked.
Qiao Xi remembered that Master Liu Yun had mentioned that she had specially designed this kind of path to prevent bad guys from sneaking into the cave. Anyone who passed through this place would inevitably leave clear footprints.
However, only immortals like them can see these footprints; mortals cannot.
Although Qiao Xi is a mortal, she has learned immortal techniques and has made great progress in recent days, so if you look closely, you can still see faint traces on this path.
Qiao Xi placed her foot on top of the footprint and found that it was much larger than her own. She thought of the heavy snow in winter and the footprints she and Morax left on the snow.
Qiao Xi smiled and followed the footprints uphill to a quaint courtyard.
The old-fashioned gate sealed off the courtyard, but Qiao Xi thought that since they had all sneaked in, who would still use the main gate? She had to climb over the wall, otherwise it would be a waste of her trip.
Without further ado, Qiao Xi walked around the yard. Her heart was pounding because this was where Morax lived, a place she had never been before.
Qiao Xi found a slightly easier spot to climb over. She had never climbed over a wall before, and her first attempt was done on a body she had trained, making it exceptionally easy. When she landed, she felt she had a real talent for climbing walls.
But what kind of bizarre talents are these?
Qiao Xi shook her head.
She noticed a faint fragrance permeating the entire courtyard, the same one emanating from Morax. However, because it existed independently of Morax, the fragrance seemed somewhat cold.
Qiao Xi is currently at the back wall of a house. The distance between the back wall and the courtyard wall is very narrow, and there are several potted plants that look like Podocarpus macrophyllus arranged in a pleasing manner in the corner.
A window was opened in the wall in front of them. The window had a symmetrical four-petal plum blossom structure and was supported by a dark round wooden stick. It was half open.
Qiao Xi leaned closer to the window and stood on tiptoe to look inside. Because of the backlight, she couldn't see the specific appearance inside, but she could vaguely see the bookshelves on the walls and the bookshelves piled high with books.
She knew that Morax loved reading. When he was with her in the Bamboo Garden, he would pick up a book and read it whenever he had nothing to do, even if he had read the books there countless times.
Previously, Qiao Xi thought that her relationship with Morax was a momentary impulse and a moment of passion. But at that time, everything just happened; she blurted it out, and then he thought it over carefully.
As they spent more time together and got to know each other better, she discovered more and more things about Morax that captivated her.
As a result, their feelings and dependence deepened.
Qiao Xi thought Morax should be resting right now; if it were her, she wouldn't be staying in the study.
Qiao Xi reached out and pried open the window, secured it, and then climbed in through the window.
Climbing through the window felt really bad, so she climbed into the study and put the window back in its original position.
Then, facing the huge study, Qiao Xi fell into a long-lost sense of confusion.
What is she doing?
The air is filled with the scent of ink and paper that has been stored away for a long time.
In the dimly lit study, there was some bright light in the front.
Qiao Xi walked towards the light, and then she saw a long and large solid wood desk.
The desk was simple and tidy, with several high-quality calligraphy brushes hanging on the brush holder, and the inkstone placed in the corner, the remaining ink in the inkstone dried up.
The ever-burning elemental lamp illuminated the desk. Qiao Xi walked over and saw a piece of paper spread out on the desk.
The paper was covered with writing, and Qiao Xi recognized it as Morax's handwriting.
She stood in front of the desk, tilting her head, and carefully reading the words on it.
"I swear by this oath that I will never abandon you."
Qiao Xi silently recited the last sentence. She blinked. It seemed to be a love letter, but the wording didn't seem like that of a love letter. Qiao Xi pondered for a moment and felt that the letter was unfinished, as if it was missing an ending, but she didn't understand its meaning.
Her memory flashed back to a day when Morax said he had promised her, without her knowing, that he would grow old with her.
Qiao Xi looked at the contents in front of her, finding it hard to describe her feelings at that moment. They were a mix of emotions, and in the end, she decided to pretend she hadn't seen the contents.
However, the uncertainty she felt about this trip faded after she arrived at this study.
Perhaps at first she was just uneasy, but now that she knows where Morax lives, she feels at ease, even though she came secretly.
Qiao Xi thought that since she had come secretly, she should leave secretly as well.
But at that moment, her gaze shifted and she noticed a simple door on one side of the wall of the huge study.
Because the door wasn't closed properly, a little light leaked in, falling into the dimly lit study and drawing attention.
Qiao Xi was too nervous to notice the light at first.
She should have left, she thought she should leave, but instead she walked towards that light.
Arriving at the door, Qiao Xi cautiously peered inside.
Beyond the door was an additional space containing a low, narrow wooden bed, on which Morax lay quietly with his eyes closed.
It's less of a bedroom and more of a temporary resting place.
Qiao Xi rarely saw Morax when he was resting.
At this moment, a long dragon tail hung down from Morax's hem. The golden dragon tail was so long that the long and narrow bed could not support it, so a large part of it hung down to the ground.
Qiao Xi blinked. Her first thought was that it was good that the floor was wooden, so Morax wouldn't catch a cold.
Seeing that Morax was resting, Qiao Xi felt that she couldn't stay any longer. Just as she tiptoed away, Morax, who was lying on the bed, slightly opened his eyes.
His gaze fell on the crack in the door, his voice icy: "Who?"
To prevent Morax from not recognizing her and killing her as a villain, Qiao Xi squeezed through the crack in the door. She sneaked in but was discovered, and Qiao Xi felt a little embarrassed.
She stood awkwardly at the doorway, peeking cautiously over.
Upon seeing that it was Qiao Xi, Morax's serious expression softened considerably, and he said to Qiao Xi, who was standing at the door, "Come here."
Qiao Xi looked at the dragon's tail hanging on the ground and carefully walked over, afraid of stepping on it.
Qiao Xi stood in front of the bed, looked down at Morax, and chuckled dryly, "What a coincidence, you're here too."
Morax frowned. This was his territory. After not seeing her for several months, had this girl stopped thinking before she spoke?
When Qiao Xi saw that Morax ignored her, she winked at him.
Morax couldn't do anything about Qiao Xi in the end, so he sat up, leaned against the wall, and asked Qiao Xi, "Why are you here?"
Qiao Xi said, "I'm following you."
