Chapter 5 Chapter 5 In the forest under the moon, the blue-headed mushroom
The moon was high in the sky, and the lush green trees under the sun looked dark in the moonlight.
She had been preoccupied during the day and hadn't observed the village carefully.
Now I understand the origin of the name Shuangzi Village. The village is nestled in the mountains, with a small river winding down through the village, dividing it into two parts, just like twins. There are isolated small hills and long mountain ranges around it. The hilltops are not very high, and there are alpine meadows in the distance.
Lin Chuntao followed the arrow indicated by the system. Lin Chunxing and the others could not see the arrow and followed Lin Chuntao closely.
Lin Chunhe hugged her arms tightly and said, "Sister, isn't it too early to pick mushrooms? I heard that if it's too early, it's still dark and the ghosts haven't left yet."
Lin Duoer had sharp ears and immediately exclaimed, "Is there a ghost in the mountain?"
Lin Chunxing felt uneasy after hearing what Lin Duoer said.
Lin Chuntao patted Lin Chunhe helplessly: "Nonsense, don't scare your sister."
"There are no ghosts in this world, don't be afraid."
Pei Ying's voice sounded from behind. The sisters turned around and looked over, feeling much more at ease.
Following the arrow, Lin Chuntao led them into the forest. The leaves were not dense, and the moonlight shone down, so they could still see the road.
Lin Chuntao cut a few sticks and gave one to each of them. "Use the sticks to explore the road ahead before you go."
The sisters took the sticks, and Lin Chuntao was the first to go into the woods.
After entering the mountain, we continued walking for about a quarter of an hour before we found the location indicated by the arrow.
Lin Chuntao used a stick to pick up the arched up bundle of rotten leaves, and Pei Ying raised the stick to pull away the leaves on top, and the moonlight poured down!
Lin Duoer saw the mushrooms below and exclaimed, "Sister! There are mushrooms! There are mushrooms!"
Lin Chunxing covered Duo'er's mouth and said, "Be quiet."
Lin Duoer nodded frantically like a chick pecking at rice, and only then did Lin Chunxing let go of her hand.
"I'll pick it up, I'll pick it up."
Lin Chuntao warned from the side: "Be gentle, don't break it." Then she looked at Lin Chunxing and said: "Take a look around us, this should be a mushroom nest."
After receiving the letter, several people began to look for it. After a while, Lin Chunhe also exclaimed, "Sister! Sister! I have it here too."
Lin Chuntao hushed, and Chunhe began to squat down and pick mushrooms.
"Be careful, don't step on it, it would be a shame if you broke it."
The sisters crouched down and searched in the forest. Pei Ying followed them, looking around and helping them to pull away the leaves to find the way.
They didn't know when they stood up in the forest, but when they stood up, the backpack was almost full and the moon in the sky was only half a circle.
Suddenly, a rooster crowed not far away.
Lin Chunhe frowned and muttered, "Why are there chickens crowing in the mountains?"
Pei Ying shushed him. Lin Chuntao widened her eyes and whispered, "Is it a pheasant?"
"Yes, you wait here for me, I'll catch it."
Pei Ying went there. Lin Chuntao wanted to follow him, but she had to bring her sisters with her. There were too many people and the noise would be too loud. She was afraid of scaring away the pheasants, so she had to wait there.
But Pei Ying hadn't returned for a long time, and Lin Duoer was getting anxious. "Sister, why hasn't my brother-in-law come back yet? Is he lost? Should we go look for him?"
Lin Chuntao shook her head. "Let's just wait here. He'll find it."
As soon as he finished speaking, the panicked screams of pheasants resounded throughout the valley. Soon Pei Ying came back with a pheasant with beautiful feathers in his hand.
"I caught one, but the other flew away. I'll come back to look for it later."
Pei Ying had a happy look on his face. Lin Chuntao nodded slightly and looked up at the person in front of her. This was not as scary as it was during the day.
The sisters were looking at the pheasant with great curiosity. Lin Chuntao interrupted them and said, "It's almost dawn. There will be a lot of people picking mushrooms soon. We have to hurry."
Following the arrow of the system, it became much easier for Lin Chuntao to find mushrooms. She had unknowingly climbed two hills.
It is getting farther and farther away from the village, but closer and closer to the county town.
In Yizhou County, people who enter the city before the Chen time do not need to go through the checkpoints. They only need to queue up at the city gate for questioning and inspection. After the Chen time, they need to go through the checkpoints.
Lin Chuntao watched as daybreak approached. She turned around and asked Pei Ying, "Do you want to eat this pheasant or sell it?"
Pei Ying replied, "I'm fine with anything." Then he asked her, "Where are your mushrooms?"
Lin Chuntao said, "I want to carry it to the city and see if I can sell it for some money."
The sisters all listened to her. After they came up with an idea, they went down the mountain and headed straight for the county town. When they arrived at the city gate, it was just dawn and there were many people queuing at the gate waiting to enter the city.
When it was their turn, the guards asked them where they were from and what they were doing in the city. They also looked at the things in their backpacks and then let them in.
Lin Chuntao followed the woman picking vegetables and found the market.
It feels like entering a shopping mall, with all kinds of shouting sounds. There are many breakfast vendors in the morning market, and all kinds of aromas are wafting in the air.
In an instant, everyone felt hungry.
Lin Chuntao covered her backpack with straw and walked around with it, wanting to see if there were any mushrooms for sale and what the specific price was.
I walked all the way to the middle of the market before I saw a vendor shouting, "Bluish-head mushrooms are twelve cents, milk mushrooms are ten cents, and pine mushrooms are nine cents!"
Lin Chuntao looked at what people had displayed. Several varieties were separated and piled up into small hills, estimating that the total weight was about 20 to 30 kilograms.
As soon as he finished shouting, several people rushed over, shouting, "Two pounds of tricholoma! Give me two pounds of tricholoma!"
"I want two pounds of milk mushrooms and one pound of pine mushrooms!"
…
Lin Chuntao quickly stepped aside and watched as the mushrooms the man brought were quickly sold out. She was shocked by the speed of sales.
The man packed up his things, picked up his basket and walked away, saying to those who didn't buy anything: "I'll come back tomorrow if I find something."
After he left, there was an empty seat here. People who wanted to buy mushrooms but didn't buy any had not yet dispersed. Lin Chuntao hurriedly called out, "Aunties, don't leave yet. I still have some mushrooms here."
Everyone turned around, and Lin Chuntao hurriedly lifted the grass on the backpack, and saw that it was full of fresh green-headed mushrooms, and her eyes lit up.
"Girl, how much are these mushrooms for?"
Lin Chuntao smiled and said, "It's all the same. Qingtou mushrooms are twelve coins per pound. But wait, aunties, I don't have a scale."
The woman in front of me said, "Two cents to rent one at the market gate."
Pei Ying hurriedly said, "I'll go and be back soon."
He left quickly and came back quickly. Luckily, he brought Pei Ying with him. She didn't have a penny, not even enough to rent a scale...
After the scale was brought back, the woman in front of him hurriedly said, "Girl, give me three pounds."
Lin Chuntao responded to the woman and quickly picked mushrooms and weighed them for her.
The arrows pointed to the blue-headed mushrooms that were picked up, but some had purple skins and some had green skins. The caps were all intact, and the large, half-open ones looked very pleasing to the eye.
The mushrooms took up space, so they didn't carry a big basket, and the whole basket weighed only 18 pounds.
Without a purse, Lin Chuntao felt the heavy weight of the 216 copper coins in her pocket.
I originally wanted to leave a pound or two to take home and eat, but it was sold out before I knew it.
She explained to her sisters, "Let's pick some up tomorrow and keep them for later. I was selling them and forgot to keep some..."
Unexpectedly, the sisters all shook their heads in unison: "We won't eat them. We'll sell them if we pick them up."
At twelve cents per pound, with a little more money, you can buy half a pound of fine noodles. For them, no matter how delicious the mushrooms are, they can't compare to the fragrant white steamed buns.
The pheasant that Pei Ying caught had beautiful feathers and looked very lively, attracting the attention of passers-by.
"Young man, do you have a wild bastard? Do you want to sell it?"
Pei Ying replied, "It's a pheasant. I just caught it this morning. How much do you want, uncle?"
"Fifty cents."
The man gave a price, and Pei Ying shook his head without saying anything.
Lin Chuntao laughed and said, "Uncle, that's the price of a domestic chicken. This pheasant can fly and is very difficult to catch."
Hearing her words, the man waved his hand and said, "I'll give you an extra ten cents."
Lin Chuntao glanced at Pei Ying and it seemed that he didn't want to sell it for sixty cents.
Seeing that they were still unwilling to give in, the man said, "Although they are difficult to catch, domestic chickens and pheasants taste just as good. Sixty cents is about right, little brother."
Lin Chuntao smiled and looked at the man. "Uncle, you look so noble, I can tell you're not buying this to eat. To you, this is just a special little thing. Look at how beautiful the feathers of our pheasant are. You probably won't find a prettier pheasant than this in the entire county. Ninety-nine cents, for good luck."
The man was delighted at first when he heard Lin Chuntao's compliments, but then he sighed when he heard the price.
"One price, eighty-eight wen, even more auspicious."
Lin Chuntao looked at Pei Ying, who nodded, "Okay."
The man counted out the copper coins and handed them over, and Pei Ying handed the pheasant to him.
The man grabbed the pheasant's feet, looked left and right, and was very satisfied. He tied it to his arm, squatted down, and took it away.
They had a great harvest today and were all in a good mood.
Lin Chuntao took the scale back and returned it, and gave Pei Ying two cents. Pei Ying refused to take it and simply said, "I'll give you the money when we get home."
Lin Chuntao smiled and said, "It's not convenient for me to put it aside, so you can take it first."
Pei Ying responded, and Lin Chuntao looked at her three sisters and asked, "What do you want to eat? Let's go eat."
"Meat patties, noodle soup, dim sum are all fine."
As they were talking, they looked up and saw a stall selling mutton noodles across the street. A large bowl cost twelve cents, a small bowl cost ten cents, and the soup could be refilled as needed.
Lin Chuntao didn’t know what Suofen was at first, but when she took a look, she was stunned. This was her favorite rice noodle!!!
I hurriedly calculated the cost for the five of them... Fifty cents would also be deducted from the small bowl. With fifty cents, it seemed more cost-effective for them to buy meat.
But the sisters had never eaten mutton before, and they couldn't take their eyes off it.
She also wanted to eat mutton rice noodles, and seeing that the bowl was quite large, she went over to ask the shopkeeper.
"Boss, if we buy two large bowls, can we use your empty bowls to share?"
The shopkeeper looked at them and smiled kindly, saying, "Yes, girls, please sit down."
After a few people sat down, the shopkeeper started to cook rice noodles and brought up two large bowls full of noodles, but there were only two thin slices of meat in one bowl.
The rice noodles were very fresh and had a strong rice aroma. Combined with the delicious flavor of the mutton soup, Lin Chuntao began to drool like crazy.
After the noodles were served, the shopkeeper brought up three more bowls, each of which contained half a bowl of thick white mutton soup.
Lin Chuntao thanked him, and the shopkeeper smiled and said, "Eat slowly, young lady."
Two bowls of noodles are not enough for five people, but the mutton soup is delicious. After drinking half a bowl of mutton soup and eating some rice noodles, I feel full and warm.
