Chapter 107 Arriving Home

After hearing this, Meng Zhao chuckled twice, "Luck is also part of strength, isn't it? Others would love to ask for it."

Xiao Youzhi stopped smiling and said coldly, "Then let's see if Boss Meng's luck can continue to be this good."

Seeing him turn his waist as if to leave, Meng Zhao quickly opened his mouth to remind him, but before he could speak, Xiao Youzhi and his party suddenly rushed forward like a gust of wind.

The horse's hooves rose high and then fell heavily, instantly kicking up a cloud of dust. Meng Zhao couldn't dodge in time and was forced to shut his mouth.

It took a long time for the dust to completely dissipate.

"Pah, pah." After spitting out the dirt in her mouth, Meng Zhao could no longer suppress her anger. Her face was flushed, and she shouted loudly at a blurry figure: "Xiao Youzhi, you just wait. One day, I will open a restaurant that is even more powerful than Chunfeng Tower, and I will become rich and powerful by stepping on your face."

Full of ambition, Meng Zhao had no time to feel bad along the way, and kept thinking about how to defeat Xiao Youzhi.

After a long and winding journey, we finally arrived at the border of Qingshi County. Since we still had so many potatoes to carry, we didn't go to the county seat. Instead, we went to Shenjia Village first.

As soon as the group stepped into Shenjia Village, they were surrounded by sharp-eyed villagers. Some hurriedly went to inform the village head, while the rest crowded around their mule cart and headed to the starch workshop.

Someone on the road asked curiously, "Qing'an's wife, you've really spent a lot of time on this trip. It must have been about ten days, right?"

Meng Zhao replied with a smile, "Yes, it's been exactly fifteen days, including today."

Looking at the pile of things on the truck, the villagers couldn't help but exclaim, "It seems Qing'an's wife made money on this trip. Look, she bought so much stuff."

Before they even reached the workshop, the village headman came out to greet them, waving from afar. He looked much healthier than before.

Meng Zhao, also sitting on the mule cart, waved to him.

As they approached, the village head asked with concern, "How was the journey? Did you encounter any danger?"

Meng Zhao shook his head. "We mainly traveled on official roads and didn't encounter any dangers along the way."

The village head was relieved. "That's good, that's good. I was on tenterhooks when you went out. Now that you're back, I can finally get a good night's sleep."

Except for the mule cart that Meng Zhao was riding in, all the other mule carts were loaded with potatoes. When they arrived at the starch workshop, the village headman quickly ordered the workers to unload the potatoes.

After unloading the goods, Meng Zhao patted the mule that had been with her all the way and said, "Village head, they have really worked hard on this trip. Please arrange some good fodder for them so they can have a good meal and rest before continuing."

The workshop also kept mules, and there was ready-made feed. The village headman had someone lead the mules to eat, while Meng Zhao stayed behind to pay the porters.

Meng Zhao counted out a total of seven taels of silver from his money bag, which included the cost of the mule and the wages of several porters, and handed it to the leader, Lin Dayou.

Lin Dayou happily accepted the silver, weighed it in his hand, and said, "Alright, thank you very much, Boss Meng. If you find us helpful, please remember to come back to us next time you have work to do outside."

Although the journey was a bit long, the work wasn't heavy, the boss was easy to talk to and generous with his money, it was really a great job.

These people were quick and efficient, and willing to follow orders. Meng Zhao readily agreed, "Okay, next time if anything happens, I'll have my second uncle come to find you."

After settling the payment, seeing that Shen Yun was still with her, she led her to the mule cart, took out the things Shen Yun had bought, and handed them to her.

"Xiaoyun, you've had a hard time on this trip. Go back and see your grandma, and show her the gift you bought."

Shen Yun replied in a clear voice, "Okay, Sister Meng Zhao, then I'll go to work in the county tomorrow."

Meng Zhao quickly stopped her, "Haha, you little girl, why are you more anxious than me? This trip has been so tiring, I'll give you two days off, and you can go back to work the day after tomorrow. Don't worry, I'll still pay you."

Hearing Meng Zhao's words, Shen Yun nodded happily, took the things she bought, and ran home.

After arranging these matters, the village head gave her a brief report on the situation in the workshop. The new recruits who came in last month got up to speed very quickly, and the workshop's efficiency was getting higher and higher. However, at the same time, he raised a question.

"The only problem is that the sun isn't as strong now, so the starch needs to be dried for longer. We have a big place here, so it's okay if it dries for a longer time. But I'm worried that once winter is in full swing, what if we encounter those days of continuous rain and no sunshine at all?"

Upon hearing this, Meng Zhao's heart sank. If they relied entirely on the sun for sustenance, they would be at the mercy of the weather. What if the weather was bad? Wouldn't the workshop have to shut down? That wouldn't do.

"I'll go back and think about it some more. We'll talk about it again when I come back to the village next time." After traveling for several days, Meng Zhao felt unwell and his mind was a bit foggy. After hearing from the village head that there were no other problems, he thought about going back as soon as possible.

Gu Changwu offered to take her back to the county, but she refused. If he took her, they would have to take a detour, so she told him to go back home with Gu Yun as soon as possible to let her know they were safe.

He and Xu Ping drove the mule cart back to the county. After several days of travel, they were covered in dust. Meng Zhao didn't go to the shop; he went straight back to the rented courtyard. He pushed the door, but it wouldn't open.

He reached out and knocked, and a little girl's voice came from inside the yard, "Who is it?"

Meng Zhao replied, "Qingyu, open the door, it's me who's back."

No sooner had the words left his mouth than a commotion arose in the courtyard, followed by the sound of two hurried footsteps.
