Chapter 111 Song Wanyin

Only after they left the teahouse did the woman ask her, "Young lady, what you said earlier was very good, but why did we run away? I should have seen how ashamed and angry those people looked."

Meng Zhao laughed and said, "If you get too angry, you'll become furious. Think about it, there are only two of us, while they have many more people. If we really start arguing, how can we possibly have the same volume as them? It's better to finish what you've said and run away quickly. That way, you can vent your anger and avoid getting hurt. Don't you think so?"

The woman nodded slightly after hearing Meng Zhao's words, "That's right, you're right."

Then, her gaze lingered on Meng Zhao's face, and after a moment, she realized, "Hey, haven't I seen you somewhere before?"

“I used to sell skewers on Guanshan Xiejie Street. Miss came to my stall to buy some food before.”

Upon hearing this, Song Wanyin's face immediately showed a look of surprise. "So it was you! The skewers at your stall were so delicious. After the night market closed, I even asked Shanhu to look for you, but unfortunately we couldn't find you. I was sad about it for quite a while."

Looking at her adorable appearance, Meng Zhao smiled and said, "Don't be sad. I've opened a braised meat shop on Tongfu Street. If you want to eat, Miss, you can come anytime."

Song Wanyin quickly waved her hand and said, "Don't call me Miss, just call me Wanyin. It's so good to meet you today, otherwise I would have been so angry."

Meng Zhao advised, "Don't be angry. Most of those who listen to the stories are men, and the stories they tell are naturally about things that satisfy their desires. Just don't go next time."

Song Wanyin sighed softly, looking depressed. "Alas, there's nothing I can do. Qing Shi County is just too boring. There are so few places to go. I stay at home all day, either embroidering or reading. I'm almost going to get sick from boredom."

Seeing her like this, Meng Zhao felt a little helpless. She had finally found a teahouse where she could listen to storytelling in her spare time, but it turned out to be such boring jokes. She didn't want to go there again next time.

"How about this, I'll come visit you when I'm free, so we can eat delicious food and chat together."

Meng Zhao nodded. "Okay, if you're bored, you can come and stroll around Tongfu Street. There are a few shops there that make really delicious food. I'll take you there sometime."

As the two were talking, a young man rushed over, his voice tinged with anxiety, "Wanyin, where have you been? I can't find you anywhere."

Upon seeing the person who came in, Song Wanyin cheerfully replied, "I was bored at home, so I came out for a stroll. Let me tell you, I met a new friend today, she is..." Halfway through her sentence, Song Wanyin suddenly realized that she hadn't asked Meng Zhao's name yet.

Meng Zhao smiled slightly and said softly, "My surname is Meng, and my given name is Zhao."

Song Wanyin immediately exclaimed excitedly, "Sister Zhaozhao, from today onwards, you are my first friend in Qingshi County."

Then, Song Wanyin introduced him to Meng Zhao: "This is my husband, his name is Wang Xian."

Upon hearing Meng Zhao's name, Wang Xian frowned slightly and looked her up and down.

Meng Zhao noticed that the man's eyes were not friendly, so she said, "Okay, I have something to do at home, so I'll head back first."

"Okay, little sister Zhao Zhao, then wait for me to come and play with you."

After Meng Zhao left, Song Wanyin, somewhat angrily, put her hands on her hips and said to Wang Xian, "Why were you looking at Zhao Zhao like that just now? It made it seem like you had ulterior motives."

Wang Xian reached out and took her arm, gently shaking it, and replied softly, "No, it's just that I only heard her name a few days ago, and you ran into her today, so it's a bit of a coincidence."

Song Wanyin asked curiously, "Do you know Zhao Zhao?"

Wang Xian shook his head. "I don't know her. It just so happens that there was a business matter related to her, so I had someone inquire about her."

Song Wanyin crossed her arms and said angrily, "That's settled then. You were the one who inquired about her. Besides, it was the teahouse I wanted to go to today that I chose, and I came out of the private room on my own initiative. It wasn't her who came to find me. Why are you overthinking things? I finally have a friend here, and you're not going to ruin it for me."

Wang Xian smiled helplessly and pleaded, "Okay, okay, I was wrong, okay? I shouldn't have thought about your friend like that. Don't be angry. I'm happy that you made friends here."

Song Wanyin came from a prominent family, yet she followed him to this small county town, which was already a hardship for her. He was usually busy with official business and didn't have much time to spend with her, so he felt guilty towards her. Now that he saw that she could make friends, he could feel a little more at ease.

Meanwhile, on her way back, Meng Zhao kept replaying the events in her mind. She felt she had heard the name Wang Xian somewhere before, but she couldn't quite place it.

Originally, Meng Zhao and Shen Yun should have sent the two aunts they had temporarily hired back home after they returned. However, because there were too many things to do recently, Meng Zhao was worried that he would not have enough energy, so he wanted to keep the two of them as well.

When Meng Zhao returned to the courtyard, he saw the two women busy at work, so he asked them to stop what they were doing and come over to talk to him.

The two were nervous, guessing that this meant they were about to leave.

"Aunties, my mother told me that you two have been working very hard these days. I happen to be short-handed right now. If you two are willing, you can stay and work here long-term, would that be alright?"

Upon hearing that they could stay, the two women were quite surprised. Everyone knew that working under Meng Zhao was a good job, as he paid well and treated them kindly. Naturally, they nodded repeatedly, very happy to accept.

"If I could stay, that would be wonderful. I'll definitely do my best."
