Recently, the pig farm has been slaughtering pigs, leaving behind too much pork fat. Meng Zhao would render it into lard for later use, but now that they have plenty of oil every day, they can't possibly eat so much lard. So they took some of the pork fat to Meng's Butcher Shop to sell.
However, there was a problem with the pricing. Meng Zhao took meticulous care of his pigs and hired a lot of workers, so the cost of raising them was much higher than that of ordinary farmers who raised them more roughly.
To reduce costs, Meng Zhao came up with many ideas, one of which was to ferment potato residue and other crops discarded from starch workshops into pig feed to reduce feed costs.
Secondly, they collected pig manure for fermentation. This spring, worried that the 200 mu of newly reclaimed wasteland would not have enough fertility, Meng Zhao discussed with the village head to divide the wasteland for an experiment. Even so, the selling price of meat from Mengzhao Pig Farm is higher than the purchase price from ordinary farmers. Selling it in his own braised pork shop is profitable, but if he sells it in a butcher shop, the butcher shop's profit cannot be guaranteed.
So Meng Zhao asked her parents to set up a special category of premium pork at the butcher shop.
The price is slightly higher than that of regular lard by one or two coins. Currently, the quantity is small and cannot be supplied on a large scale; it can only be supplied once every now and then.
After listening to Meng Zhao's idea, Xu Yunrong said, "Leave this to your mother. I've been on this street for so long, I know exactly who's easy to deal with. I'll recommend them to you. Your meat is so good, even if it's a couple of coins more expensive, I think there will still be people willing to buy it."
As for the rest of the pig, most of it can be sold in braised pork offal shops, while the parts that cannot be sold are basically inedible.
Meng Zhao couldn't help but sigh, no wonder the Chinese people eat the most pork. There are so many edible parts in a pig, which greatly reduces waste.
As for the lard she had left behind, Meng Zhao had other uses for it. Since she was planning to open a shop, she couldn't just sell toothpaste and toothbrushes. Lard was an essential ingredient for making soap.
