This thought didn't come out of nowhere; it stemmed from Shen Qinghe's support earlier that day. If he had supported me after I fell, it could be explained as him being worried about me falling and therefore disregarding the proper boundaries between men and women.
If he helped first and then let go, it could be interpreted as him seeing that he was in danger and disregarding everything else. Once he was safe, he let go out of respect and courtesy.
But he first helped her up, then let go, then helped her up again, all while trying to appear calm—that just doesn't make sense!
