Chapter 357 Measuring

The shopkeeper squinted at him for a moment, then slowly held up one finger: "One hundred taels."

"One hundred taels?" Meng Zhao gasped. "Is this clay figurine made of gold?! Why is it so expensive?"

The shopkeeper calmly adjusted his reclining position and said with an air of nonchalance, "Young lady, you can't say that. This clay figurine is a treasure that my father brought back from the Western Regions after going through countless hardships and almost dying in a foreign land several times. If it weren't for your sincere desire for it, why would I sell it for a mere hundred taels?"

Meng Zhao almost laughed out of anger. If she hadn't seen with her own eyes that the clay figurine had just been carelessly tossed on the dusty shelf, she might have actually been fooled by this explanation.

She finally understood why this shop, despite its good location, had no customers. It turned out that the shop operated on a "six months without business, six months of profit" model, so she couldn't blame herself.

"I see." Meng Zhao sneered, put the clay figurine on the shelf, and said, "Since this thing is so precious, you should keep it as a family heirloom. We wouldn't dare to take something that belongs to someone else." With that, he turned to leave.

"Hey, hey, hey!" The shopkeeper jumped up from his recliner as soon as he saw this. "You little lady, why are you in such a hurry? The price I quoted is my price. You can still bargain!"

Seeing that the shopkeeper couldn't contain himself, Meng Zhao chuckled inwardly, but on the surface he still looked nonchalant and said, "Five taels of silver, and I'll take it."

Upon hearing this, the shopkeeper's smile froze instantly. "Five taels of silver? No way! At least eighty taels!"

"Boss, open your eyes and take a look," Meng Zhao said, pointing at the clay figurine with obvious disdain. "This old, worn-out clay figurine isn't worth eighty taels of silver!"

Shen Qinghe, who was standing nearby, quickly tugged at her sleeve and said earnestly, "Sister, but this clay figurine really does look a bit like you. I want to buy it."

Seeing this, the shopkeeper immediately seized the opportunity: "Young master, you have excellent taste! Look at the craftsmanship of these clay figurines, they are truly lifelike. Eighty taels of silver, you won't regret buying them."
