Chapter 377 Gomoku (Five in a Row)

Xiao Youzhi chuckled twice, "It was just for fun, why are you getting so worked up?"

Meng Zhao rolled his eyes. If he had lost two games in a row, let's see if he could still be so calm. So he sat down angrily, "Forget it, it's no fun, I'm not playing anymore. I'd rather go watch other people set up lanterns."

They were on the third floor, with a wide view, and could see many vendors starting to come out and prepare, with lanterns being set up one by one, which looked very novel.

Xiao Youzhi, having finally gotten this opportunity, was unwilling to give it up. So he said, "No, let's play two more rounds. How about this, I'll give you a few more points, okay?"

Seeing how eager he was to play Go, Meng Zhao narrowed his eyes and said, "I'm not very good at Go, but I do know a special game called Gomoku. Would you like to try?"

Xiao Youzhi raised an eyebrow. "Gomoku? Never heard of it."

"There are so many kinds of chess in the world, and each region has its own way of playing them. It's normal that you haven't heard of them," she said, gesturing on the chessboard. "The rules are very simple: just connect five pieces of the same color in a line, whether horizontally, vertically, or diagonally."

Xiao Youzhi, being exceptionally intelligent, immediately understood the reasoning. Just as he was about to make his move, Meng Zhao preemptively picked up a black piece, smiling slyly: "I'll go first."

Xiao Youzhi didn't take it seriously. He watched as Meng Zhao placed a black piece in the center position. Although he felt the opening was strange, he still subconsciously placed a white piece next to it. Meng Zhao's lips curled up slightly, and he placed the white piece next to it, forming a pincer attack.

Xiao Youzhi made another move next to the white pieces. Meng Zhao, however, was unhurried and placed a third black piece two squares away. The three black pieces seemed unrelated. Although Xiao Youzhi felt something was amiss, he did not think too much about it and continued to expand the white pieces' formation.

When Meng Zhao made his fourth move, connecting three black pieces into a "人" (human) shape, Xiao Youzhi's hand holding the pieces suddenly paused.

He frowned slightly, as if he had sensed something, and hurriedly moved the white piece to block, but it was too late. With each move Meng Zhao made, he was able to open up multiple paths to survival. In just over ten moves, a double-living three-in-a-row killing situation had formed on the board.

Without even needing to play the five-in-a-row, Meng Zhao stood up and laughed, "Xiao Youzhi, you lost!"
