Chapter 427 First Taste

Early that morning, Meng Zhao first went to Mingxianglou to inspect the place, then instructed the kitchen to prepare some snacks, and then went to the Wang residence with the food box.

"Little Manman, come and see what delicious treats Auntie brought you~" As soon as she turned past the carved archway of the Wang residence, Meng Zhao saw the little one squatting in the garden, holding a small wooden shovel, as if she was planting flowers. She called out from afar, and when Manman turned around, she was shaking the food box she was holding.

Upon seeing her, Manman immediately threw down the shovel in her hand and ran towards Meng Zhao, her two little braids still bouncing behind her head. This startled the nanny who was following her, who shouted "Slow down" as she chased after her.

Meng Zhao quickly handed the food box to Huang Cui, squatted down, opened her arms, caught the little dumpling who rushed towards her, and picked her up with a smile. "Oh my, our Manman runs so fast now? Even the nanny can't catch up with you!" After saying that, she nodded apologetically to the nanny behind Manman.

Manman hugged Meng Zhao's neck and giggled, "Manman runs the fastest! Even Daddy can't catch me!" She said, swinging her little feet.

"Really? Then Manman is really amazing! Like a little leopard." Meng Zhao was amused by her lively appearance and reached out to pinch her little cheek. The little girl shook her head, trying to dodge, but just then she saw the food box in Huang Cui's hand, sniffed,

"It tastes like sesame candy."

"Our little glutton has a really sharp nose, but you have to wash your hands before you eat." After saying that, she handed her over to the nanny behind her and asked her to take Manman to wash her hands.

Meng Zhao went directly to Song Wanyin's study. When she was pregnant with Manman, she suffered from severe morning sickness and naturally couldn't write any stories. After Manman was born, her whole heart was with Manman. If she was away from her for even half an hour, she would always be thinking about her and naturally couldn't write anything.

It wasn't until after they returned to the capital that Meng Zhao would occasionally mention the fans at Mingxianglou who were still waiting for updates, which prompted her to pick up her pen again. She had just heard that Meng Zhao had locked herself in her study these past few days, probably because she was having trouble thinking.

The servants of the Wang family were already used to her visits, so they didn't even announce her arrival. Meng Zhao knocked on the door directly, and only opened it after hearing Song Wanyin say "come in."

Song Wanyin was engrossed in writing when she looked up and saw her. She quickly put down her pen and teased with a smile, "Oh, you busy person, what brings you here today?"

Meng Zhao didn't stand on ceremony and sat down in the chair opposite her. "Isn't it because I was really itching to read your new book? I wanted to ask you about what happened next."

Song Wanyin couldn't help but laugh, took a stack of papers from the table and handed them over, "I happen to be a little unsure how to write this either, can you give me some ideas?" It had been so long since she had written anything, her hand was a little rusty, but luckily Meng Zhao was there to encourage her the whole time.

Meng Zhao took the manuscript and carefully read through it. Song Wanyin got up to pour her tea, but suddenly noticed Meng Zhao's skirt and couldn't help but shake her head and sigh softly: "Were you hugging Manman again just now?"

Upon hearing this, Meng Zhao looked down and indeed saw several patches of fresh mud on her skirt. She shook her hand and said, "That's right. I just happened to see her in the yard and couldn't help but hug her. Children grow up so fast. She's changed so much in just half a month."

"He's grown taller, but he's still as mischievous as a monkey. He's always climbing artificial hills or rummaging through flower bushes, getting covered in mud. I have to change his clothes two or three times a day." Although Song Wanyin was complaining, her eyes and brows were full of doting affection.

"Manman is at an age where she's curious about everything, so she should be allowed to see and explore more." With that, he picked up his teacup and took a sip.

Song Wanyin suddenly laughed as if she remembered something. "That's true. A few days ago, my mother said that Manman's personality is exactly the same as mine when I was a child. But I remember clearly that when I was a child, I would get scolded for climbing a high stool. Now they dote on Manman and let her do whatever she wants, which makes me a little jealous."

"They say grandparents love their grandchildren more, and that's certainly true. But Manman is truly blessed to have such open-minded parents like you." After saying that, she remembered something and asked, "Why haven't I seen Lord Wang today? Is he not at home?"

"He was summoned by the yamen officials early this morning. What, do you need him for something? If you're in a hurry, I'll send someone to fetch him right away."

"No need, no need," Meng Zhao quickly waved his hand. "What could I possibly have to do? I just heard that Lord Wang has been promoted and wanted to congratulate him."

Upon hearing this, Song Wanyin's eyes softened with a gentle smile: "Speaking of this, I must thank you for having Huang Cui deliver the letter. If he hadn't made an appearance before the Emperor, he wouldn't have been promoted so quickly, even though he's only been back in the capital for less than a year."

Meng Zhao hurriedly interrupted, "I dare not claim credit for this. At the time, I was desperate and grasped at straws. I couldn't find anyone I could trust, so I thought of Lord Wang. Afterwards, I regretted it very much and was worried about implicating you. Lord Wang was able to handle things so well entirely because of his own ability. It has nothing to do with me."

Seeing her refuse, Song Wanyin didn't say much, but she remembered this kindness in her heart. Not to mention Meng Zhao's care for her personally, the fat field prescription back then and the message this time had helped Wang Xian a lot. They naturally remembered this kindness.

After exchanging a few words, Manman, who had changed her clothes and washed herself, ran over and gestured to the nanny to put the food Meng Zhao had brought on the table so she could eat with them.

Seeing her daughter's affectionate interaction with Meng Zhao, Song Wanyin couldn't help but say, "Zhao Zhao, I see you like children so much, why don't you have one yourself?"

Meng Zhao paused in coaxing the child, then shook her head slightly. "I like it, but if I really had to give birth to one myself, I would suffer a lot." After saying that, she patted Song Wanyin's hand. "Looking at you mothers, I have genuine admiration for you."
