Ancient Corpse in the Mountain Village (16)
Yu Shu slept until around five the next afternoon. When he woke, his eyes were dry and his body ached. He leaned against the bed screen to soothe the sluggishness of his newly activated brain, his eyes staring blankly out the window. The empty courtyard was bathed in sunlight.
Yu Shu unconsciously recalled everything that happened last night.
When Jiang Yu carried him back to the gate, the light from the house poured out through the windows, illuminating the yard. He thought Yu Huan was waiting for them in the yard, so he opened his mouth but Jiang Yu covered it before he could shout.
"Look carefully before you speak." Jiang Yu glanced at the clean floor and reminded coldly.
Yu Shu moved his eyes downwards and found that the man had no shadow.
It is Yu Dingan who has returned to the soul.
Because Jiang Yu had set up a formation, Yu Dingan couldn't get in, but he didn't know that Yu Shu was no longer in the house and he didn't give up, so he kept wandering around the yard.
But before Jiang Yu could finish his words, Yu Dingan discovered them.
Yu Dingan's gray pupils almost blended into the whites of his eyes, but it still gave the impression that he was staring wide-eyed.
His body twisted stiffly, as if ready to collapse at any moment. The warm yellow light reflected on his face, which was pale and covered with dark red corpse spots, making him look like a withered wood covered with ugly markings.
Yu Dingan rushed over in a flash, still muttering, "You are not allowed to investigate, and you are not allowed to reveal the village's affairs to anyone."
Jiang Yu shouted the names of the two young Taoist priests at the top of his voice, asking them to come out and help.
It would be no problem to let his subordinates take care of a guy like Yu Dingan, but he called him out mainly because he wanted the two brothers to make a decision. After all, this was their grandfather.
Jiang Yu held Yu Shu and easily deflected Yu Ding'an's attack.
The guy who came back to life to bully ordinary people couldn't tell the difference between the big and small kings. Even if Jiang Yu was holding Yu Shu, he could push him back into the coffin with just one finger.
"Put me down, it's very dangerous." Yu Shu said.
Jiang Yu teased Yu Ding'an as if he were playing, like he was walking a dog. When he dodged, he even took the time to glance down at Yu Shu's expression and said coldly, "Hold on tight, don't fall."
Yu Shu couldn't explain how it felt to be held in the arms of a man who was ten years younger than him and spinning around in circles. It was quite awkward anyway. If his body hadn't been corroded by Yin energy and his weakness symptoms hadn't been relieved, he would definitely have struggled to get down and walk on his own when Jiang Yu held him.
The two little Taoist priests came out and saw their handsome boss holding the beautiful man and spinning around, avoiding Yu Dingan who had returned to his soul. They wanted to laugh but didn't dare to.
But Yu Ding'an was soon restrained with talismans.
Yu Huan saw that Yu Ding'an was not as surprised as Yu Shu. He seemed to have expected this scene.
Compared to Yu Ding'an, Yu Huan was more worried about where his brother had gone and what had happened to him, and why he was so weak. He quickly walked over to Jiang Yu and pulled his brother into his arms, his eyes full of concern.
"You two should discuss what to do." Jiang Yu raised his eyebrows as he looked at the atmosphere between the two brothers, and tactlessly broke the close scene between the brothers.
The knock on the door interrupted Yu Shu's memories.
"Wake up, I'll bring you the meal." Yu Huan said.
Yu Shu thought that Yu Huan would be soft-hearted because he didn't know the truth, so he told Jiang Yu not to deal with Yu Ding'an and to leave when it was dawn.
Unexpectedly, Yu Huan made a decisive decision and asked him to leave quickly so as not to affect any living people.
Yu Shu nodded in agreement, but the question he asked made Yu Huan feel uncomfortable: "Where is Jiang Yuren? Why don't I see him?"
The light in Yu Huan's eyes dimmed, and he turned around inconspicuously: "He didn't want to disturb your rest, so he went out to walk around the village."
Yu Shu didn't have much of an appetite, but Yu Huan watched him and forced him to finish the food.
As the sky darkened, a deep blue color, almost black, spread out outside the window.
Yu Shu was a little afraid of seeing something he shouldn't see through the window, so he stood up to draw the curtains. When he turned around, he bumped into Jiang Yu who had opened the door and was standing at the door.
"Why are you walking so quietly?" Yu Shu patted his chest to calm down.
Jiang Yu's eyebrows furrowed: "Finally realized that you did something wrong?"
Yu Shu rolled his eyes.
I don’t know if it’s because he had too much work to do last night, but Jiang Yu was feeling resentful and that’s why he spoke in a sarcastic tone.
He had done nothing wrong, he just chose to stand on the side of justice and let Jiang Yu send away Yu Ding'an, who had returned to his soul. In terms of his heart and deeds, he was worthy of being worshipped by the gods.
Jiang Yu, as if laughing out loud would cost him two and a half million, curled his lips coldly and sneered, "You're really stupid."
Yu Shu's eyebrows were pushed closer together, forming wrinkles on his forehead.
He is polite in interpersonal relationships. Even if he is not smooth enough occasionally, he is not stupid. Jiang Yu has saved him several times and they seem to be quite familiar with each other, so he can speak fluently.
"Well, it depends on the person."
Jiang Yu walked straight to the window and peeked out through the gap in the curtains, just in time to see Yu Huan enjoying the breeze in the yard.
He pulled aside the curtains and said bluntly, "Your brother Yu Huan treats you so well, don't you have any doubts?"
"What's there to doubt? We're brothers who have grown up together." Yu Shu looked at Jiang Yu with the pitiful eyes of a fool.
Since Yu Shu really didn't feel it, Jiang Yu, as an outsider, couldn't say much and had to stop there.
Sometimes Yu Shu really didn't know how to communicate with Jiang Yu. Sometimes there was a generation gap between them, and sometimes they could communicate without any obstacles. But now he was just playing guessing games with Jiang Yu, which was both laborious and troublesome.
Yu Shu yawned and almost screamed in fright when he glanced out the window.
There were two moving green light sources floating outside the second-floor window. He thought it was another dirty thing, but when he looked more closely, he found that it was a black cat that blended into the night.
Black cats are not very auspicious, especially since the seventh day has not yet passed.
This cat is not afraid of people. It didn't react even when Yu Shu opened the window to chase it away. It raised its head and blinked its jewel-like beautiful eyes, and even lay down to expose its belly to Yu Shu. When it saw that Yu Shu didn't touch it, it stood up and continued to stroll leisurely on the windowsill.
Yu Shu caught it and released it downstairs. When he returned to the room, the cat had already returned to the windowsill waiting for him. He repeated this three times, and the cat came back earlier than him every time.
Jiang Yu smiled and said, "Just leave it on the windowsill."
"Black cats are unlucky." Yu Shu looked at the black cat that he couldn't drive away, sighed, and added, "The first seven days haven't even passed yet."
Jiang Yu sniffed to adjust his breath, then flattened his voice and imitated a natural cat meow.
Yu Shu's eyes widened in shock, and he was very curious about how Jiang Yu made a cat's meow.
The black cat tilted its head and looked at Jiang Yu. Its pupils dilated and then turned back to vertical stripes, as if it was curious about why this cat looked like a human. Then it jumped into the house carefully, jumped onto Jiang Yu's legs, and licked its paw while observing him.
Jiang Yu lowered his eyes with a faint smile between his brows, and gently scratched the black cat's chin.
"Black cats have always been a good omen, but modern people are just making subjective assumptions and exaggerating things."
The black cat enjoyed Jiang Yu's touch very much. It squinted its eyes and rubbed its head against his palm.
Since childhood, everyone around him has said that black cats are unlucky, and Yu Shu couldn't get rid of the taboo stereotype for a while.
"Black cats used to be kept by the rich and powerful to bring wealth and protect their homes."
Jiang Yu picked up the cat and walked over to Yu Shu, putting it in his arms. "Black is also called Xuanse. In the past, crows and black cats both had unique and elegant names, called Xuanniao and Xuanmao."
Yu Shu thought Jiang Yu wouldn't tease him with these things, so he relaxed his stereotype and showed an expression of "I see."
Originally, the Xuanniao bird predicted disasters and warned humans, while the Black Cat not only protected the house from evil spirits but also had the auspicious meaning of attracting wealth. However, their image later evolved negatively due to human misunderstanding due to their shiny black fur.
Therefore, encountering a black cat during the first seven days is a good omen.
One theory is that the black cat will stop the souls that have evil intentions and protect the safety of the home; another theory is that the deceased has completely left, and the black cat brings good luck and auspicious signs to the family.
The black cat was very well behaved. It lay in Yu Shu's arms without making any noise and even licked Yu Shu's hand.
"Where did the cat come from?" Yu Huan wanted to tell Yu Shu to go to bed early, but when he saw the black cat, he swallowed the words he had prepared and asked reflexively.
Yu Shu's eyebrows curved, and his smile was as gentle as the spring breeze blowing through new leaves and stamens: "It climbed up the windowsill. It might be someone's pet."
"Okay. Go to bed early." Yu Huan said and glanced at Jiang Yu.
"I know. You have been like this since you were a child." Yu Shu walked up to his brother and stroked his hair while speaking like he was coaxing a child with a gentle smile.
Yu Huan was always obedient to his grandfather. Sometimes, even when his grandfather spanked or scolded him, he would still not listen. But a few words from him would do the trick. Yu Huan started to be quiet in middle school, but if he caught a cold, had a fever, was injured, or was in distress, he would get very nervous and worried.
The most memorable time was when he had just started college. He had a fever and had been seeing doctors for several days but the fever didn't improve. A check-up showed that his blood dimer level was 2.63, which was higher than the normal value and caused abnormal body functions. When Yu Huan found out, he left the village without saying hello to Yu Dingan and ran all day to see him at school.
At that time, his roommate said that he envied him for having such a well-behaved brother.
So Yu Shu couldn't understand why Jiang Yu asked him why he didn't doubt that his brother was so good to him. It was normal for brothers who had never fought to have a good relationship.
An ambiguous smile flashed across Jiang Yu's face. He stretched out his long legs, lay down on the bed, and took out his cell phone to play.
Yu Shu had just woken up in the afternoon and was feeling sleepy again, so he yawned. He wanted to lie on the bed and check his phone for a while before going to sleep, but he didn't want to leave the black cat in the room. After thinking for a while, he walked to the windowsill and let it out.
The air outside was hot and stuffy, and it felt sticky when it touched his skin, as if it was covered with a layer of film. Yu Shu softened his heart and took the black cat back.
"No going on the bed, no sharpening your claws on the sofa or the curtains, and stay in your room."
Yu Shu didn't care whether the cat understood or not, and solemnly made three rules with it. He filled a disposable cup with water and opened a sausage, then touched its head and said: "Eat and drink by yourself when you are hungry and thirsty. I am going to sleep."
Jiang Yu was playing games, and when he heard Yu Shu's noise, he glanced over: "What a quick change of attitude."
Yu Shu took another piece of ham and threw it to Jiang Yu. The afterimage left a perfect parabola, landed on Jiang Yu's chest muscles and bounced a few times.
"Eat, don't talk."
Maybe the air conditioner temperature was a little low. Yu Shu woke up from a cold sleep. He took out his mobile phone and looked at the time. It was 3:13 in the morning. It seemed unlucky, but he didn't think much about it. He drank some hot water in the dark, looked at the air conditioner remote control and adjusted the temperature to 20 degrees.
He lay back on the bed and realized something was wrong. Cats are active at night and have sharp hearing, but he didn't hear any movement from the black cat during his series of actions just now.
Could it be that the cat was transformed from some dirty creature?!
Yu Shu used his imagination to scare himself. Jiang Yu, who was a light sleeper, heard the squeak of him getting up. This time he got up again, and Jiang Yu followed suit and got up.
"Sleepwalking in the middle of the night?" Jiang Yu spoke with a lazy tone. The lazy and relaxed tone easily reminded people of a male student who was rubbing his eyes just after waking up.
Yu Shu saw Jiang Yu wake up and felt a little embarrassed: "Sorry, I woke you up."
As soon as he finished speaking, Yu Shu turned on the light and looked around the room. There was no sign of the black cat, but the sausage had been eaten up and half of the water was gone.
Yu Shu ran to the toilet again, but still couldn't find it.
Jiang Yu shouted, "Don't look for it anymore, it's in the yard."
Yu Shu was even more confused. The doors and windows of the room were locked. How could a kitten weighing several kilograms run out to the yard?
Yu Shu moved closer to the window, and the black cat was squatting in the light source reflected from the window of their room.
A black cat is normal, but what is abnormal is the doorstep.
Yu Shu's pupils dilated slightly and cold sweat broke out.
The uncle followed Yu Ding'an and wandered around the door.
When they saw the light source, they raised their heads, tilted their necks until their ears were close to their shoulders, and smiled strangely at the two people upstairs.
Yu Shu got goosebumps all over his body.
It was clear that Yu Dingan came back to life yesterday and was dealt with by Jiang Yu's men, so why did he appear again today?
And my uncle is following Yu Ding'an.
If they took one more step forward, the black cat would arch its body and prepare for battle. If they moved back, the black cat would return to its obedient and quiet squatting position.
"Am I seeing things?" Yu Cheng asked in a heavy tone.
Jiang Yuyun said calmly, "Why don't we call Yu Huan over to see if the three of them are dazzled?"
This is not a serious matter. Jiang Yu has seen it many times. When an old man is dying, he will think of someone and that person will come to take his soul out of his body.
It was obvious that the uncle was thinking of Yu Dingan with his last breath, and the imbalance of yin and yang in that breath gave Yu Dingan a second chance to come back to life.
But he was not prepared to take action. He could tell at first glance that the black cat had some intelligence and skills, and with it guarding, nothing would happen.
Yu Shu punched Jiang Yu's biceps in annoyance and said, "Speak properly."
"Get ready. We'll handle your great uncle's funeral tomorrow." Jiang Yu's drooping eyelashes hid some of the emotion in his eyes. He paused and continued, "Before his great uncle died, he was thinking of Yu Ding'an. With his last breath, the imbalance of yin and yang caused Yu Ding'an to return and take him away."
Yu Shu's eyes widened, his face filled with disbelief. Why was his uncle thinking about Yu Ding'an before he died? Shouldn't he have been thinking about his aunt or the children?
Jiang Yu yawned and said lazily, "It will naturally know how to do things after eating your food. Just sleep peacefully."
"But..." Yu Shu didn't believe that a black cat could defeat two ghosts.
"But what does it matter? If the black cat can't stop you, I'm still here. Just sleep peacefully." Jiang Yu said, then he grabbed Yu Shu's neck, threw him onto the bed, and turned off the lights.
He returned to his bed and suddenly thought of something. His eyes, after being stained by a few rays of moonlight, looked like glittering obsidian in the dark room.
He took the opportunity to tease Yu Shu again: "If you're afraid of not being able to sleep, you can do it like the first night."
Yu Shu took a breath, still unable to tell that Jiang Yu was teasing him: "The folding bed is too hard, come up."
