Baby's Night Walk (Part 4)

Baby's Night Walk (Part 4)

Piles of babies were crawling across the street, their gray skin devoid of any color, and the street lights cast no shadows on them.

If you look closely, you can see many details. Some babies have swollen blisters and ulcerated limbs, some have intact umbilical cords, and some are even missing arms and legs.

The picture is not scary and will not cause physical or mental discomfort, but it is weird and will make people feel uncomfortable. They can't help but wonder how so many babies who were born not long ago could die so tragically.

Yu Shu was particularly impressed. He had heard of two cases of premature babies dying in the hospital before. The couples and their elders were all immersed in grief and unable to escape. And seeing so many ghost babies before him, how many people were heartbroken.

"They have nothing to do with Wu Yihan raising a little ghost."

Yu Shu was embedded in the darkness where the light could not reach, staring at the group of babies.

"I don't know, but it's been rumored for a while, so I can't just ignore it."

Because of the ghost baby's night walk, this road has been closed for a long time. It is normal that no one dares to walk on it when something strange happens, but the weird thing is that there should be mosquitoes or small insects in mid-June, but this place is clean and lifeless except for the green belt.

What's even more surprising is that Liu Xu asked the nearby residents and learned that for so long, they had only appeared at regular times and locations, repeating the mechanical behavior of crawling from one side to the other, and no one, not even the animals, had gotten into trouble.

Ghosts that do not harm people are often more terrifying than those that do. They are either controlled by humans or are warning people nearby to stay away from danger.

Although the baby ghosts are mentally handicapped and not as ferocious as evil spirits, their numbers are so large that they cannot be controlled by humans. That is why Jiang Yu thinks it is necessary to meddle in their affairs.

“Very responsible.”

"I hope you can learn from it." Jiang Yuyi raised his eyebrows and smiled suggestively.

Of course, he was just taking the opportunity to tease Yu Shu. If he encountered such a situation, he would still intervene even if no one asked him to. Because he had been following his master for as long as he could remember, the most common thing he heard was that ability and responsibility were relative.

Over time, his master's words became one of his guiding principles.

Over the years since he entered society, he gradually realized his master's good intentions. The days he lived with his master were simple and pure. After entering society, he met all kinds of people. His master wanted him to experience the colorful world and then cleanse himself, so that he could maintain a capable but kind heart.

Yu Shu didn't notice the subtle change in Jiang Yu's expression. He glanced at him resentfully, fearing that he would think he was going back on his word.

He took out his phone and reiterated seriously, "I'll take note of this. I won't forget."

As soon as he finished speaking, Yu Shu seemed to be bewitched and unconsciously followed the footsteps of the group of ghost babies and walked across the street.

Jiang Yu grabbed Yu Shu's hand and asked, "What are you doing?"

"You didn't hear them? They're calling out, why don't you go over and take a look?" Yu Shu glanced back at the ghost baby crawling away and explained to Jiang Yu seriously, "The rhythm of their speech is very familiar. I feel like I've heard it somewhere before."

Jiang Yu straightened his eyes slightly, and a hint of surprise ignited in the night, but it quickly died down.

He turned around and told his men who had been guarding for most of the night to go back and rest so they wouldn't have to work tomorrow. Then he and Yu Shu followed the ghost baby.

The foul smell of the river was carried by the night wind and hit Jiang Yu's nose. He couldn't help but frown in disgust.

This river is far away from residential areas. There are not many green plants, but there are a few trees that grow very wild. The dimness stretches the shadows of the trees, which makes people feel uncomfortable at first glance.

There was a bridge not far away, but the group of ghost babies jumped into the river in an orderly manner one after another, and soon floated to the other side and climbed ashore.

The last kid who came ashore shook his head, spilling mud and dirty water all over the ground. He seemed to sense that the two people following behind him had stopped walking, and he turned around and grinned at them.

Yu Shu got goosebumps. That smile was exactly the same as the one he saw when he was in a coma.

Jiang Yu followed first, and Yu Shu quickly followed. They walked through the woods and came to an old residential area. The community was dark and there was no sign of life. The increasingly strong stench came from the garbage that had not been dealt with in time and was exposed to the sun.

After they entered the community, the ghost babies disappeared out of thin air.

It is really strange that the ghost babies neither harm people nor can communicate, but are brought here instead.

Yu Shu followed Jiang Yu and walked a short distance. In the dim light, he glanced at the rows of houses that were five or six stories high, and felt a chill in his heart.

"Not many people live in this neighborhood." Yu Shu pointed to a building in front of him with red brick walls and blocked windows.

Jiang Yu suddenly pulled Yu Shu behind him. Before he could say anything, a black dog jumped out from the side, arched its body and bared its teeth at the two of them. It was already on alert and could pounce and bite them at any time.

Unclean things are afraid of black dogs. Black dogs, like black cats and crows, can ward off evil spirits. Ghosts dare not approach, and dirty things will stay away from them.

If you don't want people to see dirty things, you can hide them, but you can't hide them from the eyes of a black dog. If a dog barks for no reason at night when no one is around, it is very likely that it has seen something that people cannot see.

But Jiang Yu quickly realized that the black dog was not looking at them, but at what was behind them.

The two of them turned around tacitly, and the ghost baby who had turned around and smiled at them was actually behind them.

A closer look revealed that the ghost baby's eyes hadn't even fully opened yet, and its body was covered in numerous small pinholes. It seemed like it had fallen behind the group and was afraid of the big black dog, so it had followed behind the two of them.

Seeing this, Jiang Yu took out a yellow paper cinnabar talisman and stuck it on the ghost doll's forehead. In the blink of an eye, the ghost doll was surrounded by soft light and its body gradually became transparent.

Seeing this, the black dog relaxed its guard, stopped its muffled warning grunts, stomped its way to their feet, and circled around each of them three times, occasionally lowering and raising its head to sniff.

The ghost doll crawled a little further away, tilted its head towards the two of them, showing an innocent smile that only a baby could have, and then turned into a thin white mist and dissipated.

The big black dog barked happily twice and darted back into the bushes.

"Did you save that little ghost?"

"Well, what about what you just said about no one living here?" Jiang Yu looked up at the blocked windows and asked in confusion.

Yu Shu pulled him down to the nearest building and pointed to the second floor: "The urn room is not for living people."

As the name suggests, it is a house used to store the ashes of the deceased. The price of cemeteries continues to rise and there are usage rights. If the lease is not renewed upon expiration, the ashes will be dug up. Therefore, some people have thought of buying a house to store the ashes.

Looking up, I saw that 70% of the houses in this community were columbariums with sealed windows.

I just can't figure out what the connection is between those ghost babies and this urn. If the ashes of those children are inside, then there should be more than just ghost babies walking around at night.

According to Liu Xu and his team's observations, they appeared out of thin air from the other side, not crawling over from the old community and then returning.

Jiang Yu nodded calmly: "I understand."

The ghost baby walking at night should have nothing to do with Wu Yihan, it’s just that this neighborhood is weird.

They walked around the community. The old community was not big, with only about thirty buildings, so they finished the walk quickly.

It is rare to see a few houses with lights on on the street, otherwise they would really think that the entire community was filled with urns.

Yu Shu thought of a serious problem: "We are still here doing irrelevant things so late, what are we going to do tomorrow?"

Jiang Yu said indifferently, "Just treat it as a government-funded trip and sleep tomorrow. There's no need to get things done so quickly. They look at the results, not the process."

Yu Shu raised his eyebrows and laughed out loud. He didn't expect Jiang Yu to be so cunning at this time.

"I'll follow your arrangements." But he was a little looking forward to having a meal alone with Zhao Jingyun, so he still wanted to go back quickly.

Jiang Yu was a straightforward person but not stupid. He immediately understood the hidden meaning in Yu Shu's words. His mind raced and the content of Yu Shu's mobile chat box automatically emerged in his mind.

Jiang Yu felt a little unhappy, but that was Yu Shu's private matter, and he was not in the right, so it was difficult for him to say anything.

"Okay." An idea flashed through Jiang Yu's mind. If he stayed here for too long, Yu Shu might take the opportunity to take a few more photos with Wu Yihan and the boy band members.

Jiang Yu came to his senses and realized that he had been distracted. He told himself that it was up to Yu Shuai to do whatever she wanted and he didn't need to care so much.

He didn't say anything else, glanced at the gate of the community that was swallowed by darkness, and walked quickly towards the door.

When I came here, there was no light in the security booth and no one could be seen, but now it is brightly lit.

At some point, the security guard who had come on duty caught them. He looked them over strangely and warned them in a deep voice, "You are not from this community. Leave now, or I will call the police."

Just as the security guard finished speaking, there was a rustling sound coming from the green belt nearby.

Yu Shu wanted to say a few words to ease the atmosphere, but Jiang Yu took his hand and left without looking back.

There were bursts of dog barking behind me.

"Why are you in such a hurry? I want to talk to the security guard and see if I can find out anything." After walking around, he finally met a living person. It was a good opportunity to ask some questions, but Jiang Yu just left like that. Yu Shu was very puzzled.

Jiang Yu didn't answer and walked about fifty meters away before looking back.

He pointed to the dark entrance of the complex: "See for yourself."

The security booth was pitch black, and there was no one in sight. There was only a big black dog barking and pacing back and forth in front of the booth, as if trying to prevent something from getting out.

Yu Shu's face froze. That security guard wasn't human. It wasn't Yu Shu's fault. He used to be very sensitive, but after donning the Eternal Life Knot, which warded off evil spirits, he no longer felt the chill down his spine or any discomfort when encountering anything that wasn't particularly yin.

"He's not a human..." Yu Shu took a breath, "Then why don't you use a spell to liberate him as well?"

Jiang Yu rolled his eyes: "How can you still ask questions after you've saved him?"

"Ah?" Yu Shu frowned, his eyes glued to Jiang Yu, trying to find a reasonable explanation.

The cool breeze tugged at Jiang Yu's sleeves, outlining the curve of his biceps and also lightly outlining the shark muscles on his sides.

Jiang Yu just stood there with an expressionless face. The dark night hid a few rays of bright and cold moonlight, which fell on him, adding a strong sense of cold youthfulness to him.

The more Yu Shu looked into those obsidian eyes, the more he felt like he was being sucked in.

Jiang Yu put his finger on Yu Shu's lips and whispered, "Don't talk, just listen carefully."

Yu Shu frowned, as the only sound he could hear in the lonely night was the wind.

Eh, that's not right.

There was also a very thin noise, the volume of which was about the same as a cell phone muffled under a pillow.

Yu Shu concentrated and listened for a long time before he realized that it was sobbing.

In the middle of the night, faint cries were heard from a deserted and smelly river. It was so creepy.

"Then." Jiang Yu held Yu Shu's finger and pointed it towards three o'clock.

The woman with disheveled hair knelt by the water with her head down and shoulders trembling.
