Special Days

Special Days

The vibration sound from the pillow pulled Jiang Yu out of his sleep. He opened his eyes drowsily. The weather outside the window was a bit gloomy, and the sunlight was trapped in the clouds and could not come out.

The bed was half empty. Yu Shu had already gotten up and gone out, but he didn't take his phone with him. The dense message reminders kept beeping, and the screen lit up with every message.

Jiang Yu had no intention of peeking, so he sat up, put on his clothes, and lowered his head when the screen just came on.

The message sent by Li Qingyan was short and concise: I saw something that is quite suitable for you. I will bring it to you when I go to Guangzhou.

"Yu Shu, your phone is so noisy."

The shouts from the bedroom spread out into the hallway, and another voice responded at the same volume: "There's no password. Unlock it yourself and turn off the alarm."

Jiang Yu was stunned. He originally just wanted Yu Shu to take the phone away so that he wouldn't be bothered by it.

He didn't have the bad habit of peeping, so he clicked on the clock function to turn off the alarm, but when he exited, he somehow pulled down the notification bar. The IOS system would display the message content, and Li Qingyan's series of messages instantly caught his eye.

"Good morning, why didn't you reply to my message last night?"

"I'm going to Guangzhou again soon, and I want to try morning tea. How about you lead the way and I'll treat you?"

"It's half past eight. If you don't get up now, it'll be nine soon. The sun will be burning my butt."

It seemed that Li Qingyan was the only one contacting Yu Shu, and Yu Shu rarely replied. Thinking of this, he couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief.

But thinking that today is August 16th, Jiang Yu hates August 16th of the lunar calendar every year. It is a difficult day for him.

Yu Shu knocked on the door, his eyes reflecting Jiang Yu's rarely seen expression of helplessness and a little sadness.

He was a little confused. It was the first time he saw Jiang Yu acting abnormally. He asked carefully, "Are you feeling unwell?"

"Maybe I didn't sleep well."

"I don't know if you slept well or not, but last night you kicked off the quilt and your arms and legs landed on me. I couldn't push them away."

Yu Shu looked up and saw that the air conditioner was set at 18 degrees Celsius. He wondered if he had caught a cold and was feeling dizzy and had a headache. He hissed softly, took three or two steps towards Jiang Yu, and used the back of his hand to feel the temperature of his forehead.

It's okay if you don't touch it, but once you touch it, you'll be shocked. It's not the normal body temperature. It seems to have blended with the cool air in the room and is so low that it's a little scary.

I knew it, Jiang Yu's biological clock was more stable than his, but when he got up, Jiang Yu didn't wake up. He should have been careful at that time.

Yu Shu's face briefly flashed with surprise, and his worry made him reflexively pull open the wardrobe door, take out a woolen coat and scarf from the innermost part, and put them on Jiang Yu.

"I'll take you to see a doctor now. Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere else besides being cold?" Yu Shu was confused and panicked, and the end of his voice trembled slightly.

Jiang Yu waved his hand and said calmly, "Just take a rest." As if it was someone else who had the abnormal physical symptoms.

Yu Shu refused to listen. His fingers gripped Jiang Yu's wrist like vines entwining a tree trunk. "You need to see a doctor if you have a low temperature and a chill."

"You're a doctor, and I know my own physical condition well. It would be useless for me to go."

This happens every year on August 16th. It may take a day or two to recover if it's mild, or three to five days if it's long-lasting.

The reason is that I live with my master.

According to his master, he was an orphan abandoned in the wilderness, and was taken home out of kindness because he feared wild animals would eat him. Because he had been learning from his master since childhood, he often interacted with wandering ghosts and wild spirits, and his body absorbed negative energy, which caused changes.

August 15th is the day when yin and yang are in balance, while the 16th is the day when the balance is broken. Therefore, Jiang Yu will behave abnormally in the few days after the Mid-Autumn Festival. He will just feel uncomfortable for a few days and it may look scary, but in fact, there will be no significant impact.

"Because I'm a doctor, I have to take you to the hospital."

Yu Shu thought about it and was still worried that it was not safe, so he found a pair of thick cotton socks and squatted down to put them on Jiang Yu.

Jiang Yu didn't know whether to laugh or cry, but at the same time, his heart softened.

In the past, he joked with Yu Shu because the situation allowed it, but now he shouldn't pretend to be ignorant and waste Yu Shu's heartfelt concern.

He bent down and leaned close to Yu Shu's ear: "It's really nothing, it's like this every August 15th." He briefly summarized the reason.

Yu Shu breathed a sigh of relief after understanding the whole story. However, he did not stand up. He lowered his head and thought about the floor for a while, then continued to put on the thick cotton socks for Jiang Yu.

"So how did you spend the past years?"

Yu Shu slowly raised his eyelids, and his eyes, which were coated with a layer of gray sunlight, sparkled with a gentle and firm light, like a dusty gem.

Their eyes met with an ambiguous perspective. Concern and worry flowed under Yu Shu's slightly furrowed brows. Jiang Yu looked at him and actually had the urge to reach out and rub his frown.

He thought so and did so.

Yu Shu's clear and clean thoughts immediately became wet and sticky. He didn't know how to put words together to form a language, and even his body movements froze slightly.

Yu Shu slapped Jiang Yu's hand away, his brows furrowed even tighter, and the corners of his mouth drooped a little.

"Is there something on my forehead?"

"Just be yourself. It's fine if you stay home and don't run around."

With a muffled thud, Jiang Yu lay back on the bed. He fished out Yu Shu's phone from the pillow and handed it to him: "Someone's been sending you messages."

Yu Shu took one look and quickly put his phone in his pocket, as if out of sight, out of mind. He said helplessly, "Oh," "Li Qingyan is a bit of a psycho. I'm not that close to him, but he keeps sending me meaningless messages."

Jiang Yu happily mourned for Li Qingyan in his heart for a few seconds. He wanted to get closer to Yu Shu, but he didn't expect that Yu Shu was particularly slow and regarded his initiative to find topics as meaningless news.

"Then you rest for a while, I'm going out for a while." As soon as he finished speaking, Yu Shu walked to the door and was about to turn.

Jiang Yu followed him out: "Where are you going?"

In fact, Jiang Yu was not completely fine. He subconsciously wanted someone to be with him and talk to him.

Before he entered the world, his master would scold him a few times but he was soft-hearted. After entering the world, he had to rely on himself and he dared not and could not tell his subordinates.

Yu Shu turned around, his nose touching Jiang Yu's, and took a half step back to create some distance. "Let's go buy groceries. Didn't you say you wanted to eat stuffed green peppers with meat before going to bed last night?"

"Oh, okay. I'll go too."

The small ceiling fan rotating at a constant speed crushes the fishy smell of fresh meat into countless pieces and fills every corner of the vegetable market.

The bustling, noisy crowd was so familiar that Jiang Yu seemed to see time overlapping. When he first arrived in Guangzhou, he lived near a traditional vegetable market. When he bought corn, the aunt would shell it for him. When he bought fish, the uncle would fillet and slice it for him and tell him which place had the best and cheapest ingredients.

"Xiao Yu, it's been a while since I last saw you buy vegetables. What would you like to eat today?" the uncle at the fish stall asked happily.

Yu Shu greeted the uncle with a smile: "How much is the crucian carp?"

The boss was also a shrewd person. He glanced at Jiang Yu, who was dressed warmly beside Yu Shu, and knew what was going on. He turned around and shouted to the vegetable stall in the distance, "Wife, give Xiao Yu some winter bamboo shoots. He's making crucian carp soup to ward off the cold."

A long and delicate warmth surged in Jiang Yu's heart, but he didn't say anything. He quietly followed Yu Shu and walked around the vegetable market.

Many shop owners in the vegetable market are very familiar with Yu Shu. No matter whether he buys anything or not, they will shout and say hello when they see him passing by.

The aunt selling green peppers was a little over 1.5 meters tall and very lively. Seeing Yu Shu, she smiled and clapped her hands: "I've saved the green peppers for you. I went to the vegetable garden early this morning to pick them. How do you think they are? They are pretty and fresh, aren't they?"

"Thank you, Aunt Hui."

"Come to think of it, you don't eat green peppers, so why did you suddenly buy green peppers from me?"

Jiang Yu seemed oblivious to the chaotic chatter around him, his aunt's words replaying in his ears. His social circle was small: his master, the ghost, the clients, and his subordinates. The clients only liked to hear that things were handled properly, while his subordinates cared about whether they were getting paid. His master was tough on the outside but soft on the inside, a proud and arrogant person who only half-heartedly cared and often said, "Boys, don't be so delicate."

The only person who seemed to care about him in both words and deeds was Yu Shu, whom he had known for a short time and had only been working with because of a common interest.

Yu Shu nudged Jiang Yu next to him with his elbow and said with a gentle smile, "He wants to eat."

"Hey, where did you meet this tall, handsome guy? If I were to ask you, you two are much better looking than the boy band my daughter follows every day."

Yu Shu smiled and was about to say that this person was his current boss when Jiang Yu suddenly interrupted: "He didn't call you auntie, so I thought you were his sister."

"You're such a sweet talker."

The aunt lowered her eyebrows and glanced at Yu Shu who had kicked the bag of chopped meat. She quickly took some ginger, garlic and a handful of green onions and stuffed them into the bag.

Just as Yu Shu was about to take out his phone to scan the code, the aunt swiftly snatched the two payment codes and held them in her arms: "Don't be polite to me, even if you treat me to green peppers, I'm really grateful that you noticed my lips were a little purple and told me to go to the hospital for a heart check, otherwise I would have to be hospitalized."

"Thank you then." Seeing that the aunt had made up her mind, Yu Shu pretended to agree first. After she put the payment code back, he asked Jiang Yu to go back and take a picture of the payment code for him.

Jiang Yu was too gentle today compared to usual, which gave Yu Shu the illusion that Jiang Yu and Wang Zhiyao were in the same category, both being cute and obedient little brothers.

So when I met a vendor selling candied haws at the entrance of the vegetable market, I ordered three strings without thinking.

Jiang Yu was a little confused looking at the candied haws in his hand.

"Eating something sweet will make you happier when you are sick." Yu Shu walked down the last step, turned around and smiled gently. In an instant, it seemed as if all the soft sunshine gathered on his face.

"It's useful for coaxing children." Jiang Yu just looked disgusted on the surface, but a warm feeling echoed in his heart.

Yu Shu pinched Jiang Yu's face and gently pulled it, then said matter-of-factly, "You're just a child in front of me."

That's true. One is 31 years old and the other is only 19 years old. Jiang Yu is not a child in front of them.

However, Jiang Yu seemed quite dissatisfied with being lumped in with the kids. He raised his eyebrows: "Really?"

"yes."

Yu Shu was driving, occasionally glancing at the rearview mirror, while Jiang Yu kept his head down playing with his phone.

"Rest for a few more days?" Yu Shu said.

Jiang Yu looked away from his phone: "No more rest, time to work."
