Poison (Eleven)
Jiang Yu went back out, brought some locust wood ornaments into the room, and threw the wooden sculptures to the ground in front of Li Cheng and his wife.
The wooden sculpture fell to the ground and shattered, with bursts of white mist pouring out of it.
Yu Shu was stunned. The white mist slowly rose and condensed into a human shape. It stayed in the air for a short time before scattering in all directions.
Li Minghao reacted. His sitting body instantly softened and he fell onto the bed with a thud, but his expression remained unchanged. His eyeballs did not even move, staring blankly at the ceiling.
Li Cheng was angry but dared not say anything. He ran forward to check on his son's condition with a broken heart.
"Who taught you to use this method to stabilize your soul?"
After saying that, Jiang Yu opened the window, and the white mist that had disappeared without a trace gathered again into a human shape and slowly floated towards the window.
However, when the human-shaped white mist was about to pass through the window and door, it seemed as if an invisible hand grabbed its throat and threw it back into the room.
Yu Shu looked around but didn't find anything like the Bagua mirror.
He had read in the information at Jiang Yu's house that if a person's soul left the body for too long, it would turn into a shadow and become uncontrollable and unobstructed, but the Bagua Mirror could trap ghosts and a person's three souls and seven spirits.
Li Cheng's wife looked flustered and shook her head: "I don't know either. My husband went out for a while and brought back the locust wood carvings. He redecorated the living room the next day."
Jiang Yu's eyes were like a bottomless, clear lake, constantly emitting a chill.
"Move the metal ornaments away and move the bookcase." Jiang Yu glanced around and gave Yu Shu concise instructions, his pupils showing a little warmth.
Only then did Yu Shu discover that Li Minghao's room was a huge Bagua formation, with corresponding objects in different directions. The bookcase and metal ornaments that Jiang Yu asked him to move were connected in a straight line. After they were moved away, the positions of Xun Gua and Qian Gua were vacant.
Sure enough, after the two directions were messed up, a gap was formed, and the human-shaped white mist floated out of the window smoothly this time.
Li Cheng's wife watched the scene unfold, becoming increasingly convinced that Jiang Yu was the more reliable savior. She quickly stepped forward, grabbed Li Cheng's arm, and urged him, "Just be clear with Mr. Jiang. He's the one who can help us. The technician you hired before only treated the symptoms, not the root cause. Relying on those people in the company will only make things worse."
Li Cheng looked embarrassed: "I know it's unreliable, but once I use this method, I can't stop!"
The moment Jiang Yu saw Li Minghao, he knew what was going on.
They nourish people with their souls, absorbing other people's souls to fill the missing soul space of Li Minghao, so that he can maintain the basic physiological characteristics as a human being. However, because the soul that is stuffed in does not match his own, he basically has no thinking and judgment ability.
To put it bluntly, it's like a low-IQ animal with only the instincts of eating, sleeping and excretion, living in a human body.
This method was originally used to fulfill the last wishes of the deceased, that is, to temporarily call back the three souls and seven spirits of the deceased into the body, allowing the deceased to stay in the world and complete the last things that must be done.
Those who have not completely lost their souls cannot accommodate other souls, because as long as the body still exists, the soul will not be separated from it.
But it is very strange that Li Minghao can be stuffed with other people's souls even though he is clearly still a living person.
What’s even more strange is the person who could find this method to help Li Cheng.
This person is not helping Li Cheng's family at all, but harming them. It is too vicious to deprive a living person's soul and stuff it into another dying person's body. He will definitely bring unbearable retribution in the near future.
"Do you still have this person's contact information?"
Jiang Yu stepped forward and lowered his eyelids to check Li Minghao's physical condition.
As he expected, the soul kept in the body stabilizes the body's condition. Once it leaves the body, the physiological symptoms of red skin and low body temperature will continue to appear.
Li Cheng was filled with anger and regret: "No, I haven't even met that person in person. He inexplicably sent me a text message, telling me to prepare something and he would help me get it done."
Jiang Yu thought for a few seconds and said, "Throw away the locust wood items and restore the living room to its original appearance."
"but..."
"I'll have something delivered to you shortly to prevent the situation from getting worse. But if you insist on continuing with that method, you'll be responsible for whatever happens to your son, company, and family."
Li Cheng did not respond, but held his son's hand with a serious expression, fearing that his son, with red skin and empty eyes, would turn into a wisp of smoke and disappear in the wind at any time.
Yu Shu basically couldn't get a word in. He could see some things but they were just superficial. He had no idea what Li Minghao's situation was or how things would develop next.
At this point, Yu Shu knew almost everything. The people who left Li Cheng's company were not because of ghosts, but because they were used by Li Cheng as soul supplements for his son.
Many people think that wealth and connections are the greatest resources of rich people, but this is not the case.
The poor are the greatest resource for the rich.
Yu Shu hid his contempt for Li Cheng and followed Jiang Yu away.
"Oh, yeah, I just remembered I have a party tomorrow and need to go home."
Yu Shu had just returned to Jiang Yu's house and saw a few young Taoist priests ordering takeout for dinner. Only then did he remember the agreement with Zhao Jingyun.
Jiang Yu's eyes left the phone screen, glanced at Yu Shu calmly, and asked, "Is it very important?"
"It's not that important, it's just that we agreed on this in advance, and it's not appropriate to change it at the last minute. I didn't drive here, so you can take me home."
Yu Shu didn't bother to be polite with Jiang Yu and spoke frankly.
He came here to work, not to risk his life, and the contract also stated that he was entitled to two days of paid leave every month. At worst, he could just take paid leave.
"Take a taxi back by yourself." Jiang Yu raised his eyebrows and turned to enter the elevator.
Yu Shu almost wanted to roll his eyes and curse, but considering that there were other people watching him and he had to pay attention to his image, he endured it.
Jiang Yu held the elevator door button and looked at Yu Shu with a half-smile. He was fooled again. This grown man was quite amusing. He was not easily teased but he would decide whether to get angry or not depending on the situation.
"Come up first. I'll take you back later." Jiang Yu raised his chin, signaling Yu Shu to hurry up, and then continued to issue tasks to the others: "Ask other colleagues and find someone to deliver the red rope to Li Cheng. Tomorrow, Liu Xu and Xiao Zheng will go to see the school director who entrusted us."
Yu Shu stepped into the private elevator as everyone watched.
"What are you going up there for?" Yu Shu asked in confusion.
Jiang Yu didn't respond, and the elevator reached the third floor in a blink of an eye.
He left the elevator first, walked to the bookshelf, took out an old book, and handed it to Yu Shu: "Page 64."
Yu Shu did as he was told, but the book not only had no table of contents but also no page numbers, so he had to count as he turned the pages.
However, although this book shows many signs of aging, it is well preserved. There is a light scent of agarwood between the pages, which is refreshing to smell.
The book records some strange things that Yu Shu has never heard of. The ones he is more familiar with are Tai Sui and the evil spirit that Jiang Yu introduced before.
Yu Shushu turned to page 64, and the first word that caught his eye was: poison.
He knew about poisonous wine. He had read the story of Empress Lü poisoning Liu Ruyi with poisonous wine in classical Chinese, but "鸩" was probably just a name for poison in ancient times, and there was no such poisonous bird as "鸩鸟".
But what is written in this book is:鸩, a thing that contains unjust deaths, is formed because of resentment and anger that cannot be dissipated. It feeds on souls and can also poison the souls.
The creatures that died unjustly, aren't they the abused cats and dogs that meet this requirement? But they have come into contact with the collective resentment of those cats and dogs. If it was really poison, Jiang Yu would have seen it long ago and would not have waited until today.
But apart from those abused stray animals, nothing in the known information matched.
Yu Shu's eyes tilted slightly downwards, and then he wrote down the specific symptoms of being poisoned by the poison, including coma, soul leaving the body, red skin, and low body temperature.
Don't all of Li Minghao's symptoms match?!
Yu Shu raised his head in surprise and met Jiang Yu's calm gaze.
"Keep reading." Jiang Yu said.
Yu Shu obediently lowered his eyes and continued to look down.
The fragrance of ink mixed with the scent of agarwood. The words that came into view were decomposed into lines under the effect of the ink fragrance, and automatically outlined the style of landscape painting in Yu Shu's mind.
There is no antidote to this poison.
No solution?!
Then those students from No. 6 Middle School cannot be saved.
No wonder Jiang Yu told Li Cheng that the situation should not continue to deteriorate, instead of there being a way to solve it.
"What's the point of asking me to look at this? It says there's no solution."
Yu Shu put down the book, took two steps forward, and looked down at Jiang Yu, who had his ankles resting on his knees.
Seeing Jiang Yu looking relaxed and comfortable, there must be a way, otherwise why would he be called up to the third floor alone.
Jiang Yu raised the corner of his mouth in satisfaction, patted the empty space next to the sofa, and chuckled: "Yes, see if you dare."
Yu Shu frowned, thinking that Jiang Yu must want to use his pure yin constitution to cause trouble again.
Thinking about the last time he was asked to sew up He Yuhua's remaining soul, he still felt a lingering fear.
It wasn't fear, but the feeling of being completely drained of energy, the sheer exhaustion, was excruciating. It was several times more tiring than a five- or six-hour surgery. It felt like being punched like a punching bag while I was operating.
But then he thought about it again. No matter how hard it was for the students at No. 6 Middle School, he couldn't bear to see those children suffer such a tragedy. He studied medicine to cure illnesses and save lives. Now that he couldn't cure illnesses and save lives, he could still do his part to help others by curing ghosts.
"I've already come up here with you. Can I really not do it if I say I dare not?"
"Okay, I respect your choice."
Yu Shu took a breath and said solemnly, "Speak now. We can't just watch so many students suffer innocently."
"Let Zhe take the poison back."
Jiang Yu's smile was harmless, but what he said made Yu Shu want to hit him.
If he had the ability, he would definitely poison Jiang Yu to cure his annoying habit.
"You can do it, come on~" Jiang Yu's sunny smile was completely different from his usual cold appearance. Yu Shu did not feel the boy's sunshine and warmth from it, but a slight chill that made his hair stand on end.
Yu Shu talked for a long time, but Jiang Yu didn't tell him the specific method. He just said that he would know when he found the poison.
Moreover, Jiang Yu didn't send him back as he said, because it was too late. Jiang Yu said that it didn't matter if he took a little time and he could send him back tomorrow morning.
"Brother, I thought you wouldn't be back. Miss Zhao is already here." Yu Huan opened the door and saw Yu Shu's eyes sparkling, but his tone was a little disappointed. He didn't want his brother to share his time with this female neighbor.
Yu Shu smiled apologetically and said, "I didn't forget. I agreed to cook today."
Yu Huan was about to close the door when Yu Shu stopped him: "Don't close it, Jiang Yu is in the back, wait for him."
"Oh." Yu Huan had a pretty good impression of Jiang Yu. Although he had put Yu Shu in some danger, without him, it would be hard to say whether Yu Shu would be safe when Yu Ding'an came back to life. Therefore, he was quite grateful to Jiang Yu.
Moreover, with one more person present, Zhao Jingyun wouldn't be able to talk so much to Yu Shu. Given Yu Shu's personality, he would definitely take other people's feelings into consideration.
On the way back from sending Yu Shu home, Jiang Yu heard him talk about his good cooking skills, and he became interested. He didn't care whether he knew the other people at the party or not, and followed him.
He subconsciously sniffed as he stepped into the entrance, his brows furrowing slightly. This was his first time at Yu Shu's house, and he could actually smell a familiar scent.
"Yu Shu, who is this?" Zhao Jingyun, who was in the living room, saw Jiang Yu and raised her voice to ask Yu Shu who had just entered the kitchen.
Jiang Yu looked in the direction of the voice, and when his eyes met Zhao Jingyun's, both of their eyebrows twitched in tacit understanding.
It’s not that they know each other, but they have never met each other and don’t know each other at all. However, there is a sense of déjà vu as if they have met before.
Yu Shu half poked his head out from the kitchen door frame: "Oh, he's my friend. He sent me back, so I let him come up with me. Do you mind?"
Yu Shu took the problem upon himself and smiled apologetically.
Zhao Jingyun straightened her facial muscles and smiled brightly: "I don't mind. Friends of friends are friends, and a dinner party with more people is more fun. I'm so lucky to have met new friends thanks to you. I'm so happy."
Jiang Yu smiled with a forced smile, his voice carrying a hint of chill: "We are destined to be together."
Yu Huan came out of the kitchen and held the drink in front of Jiang Yu: "Which one do you want?"
He was the only one who knew that Jiang Yu was only 19 years old. He felt that no matter how successful Jiang Yu was in his career at this age, his lifestyle would not be too unusual, and he would not drink tea like Yu Shu and Zhao Jingyun.
"Thanks."
The sound of the cola deflating seemed to permeate the cool air from the air conditioner with sweetness.
Jiang Yu sat diagonally opposite Zhao Jingyun at a 30-degree angle, so he could see each other without having to look at each other deliberately.
The two of them had a tacit understanding and neither of them looked at the other directly, but their peripheral vision always clashed from time to time.
Yu Huan noticed the subtle atmosphere between the two. Maybe Zhao Jingyun was not happy about a stranger coming to the party that had been arranged in advance. When Yu Shu said that he would bring his younger brother that night, a hint of unnaturalness flashed across Zhao Jingyun's face.
It may be that Yu Huan was worrying too much. After Yu Shu finished his work and came out of the kitchen, Jiang Yu and Zhao Jingyun got along very harmoniously. They talked about everything from the latest TV series to the top boy bands, and from the news to the bizarre incident at No. 6 Middle School.
Their relationship suddenly became as good as that of friends regardless of age.
"You two seem to get along very well. I didn't expect Jiang Yu to be a fan, and a fan of a boy band at that." Yu Shu quickly changed the subject from the incident at No. 6 Middle School. Zhao Jingyun was just an ordinary woman, and he was really afraid that Jiang Yu would say something wrong if they talked about it in depth.
Yu Shu rarely interrupted others or forcibly changed the subject. Zhao Jingyun understood Yu Shu's meaning and smiled gently and amiably, but there was a hint of alienation in her eyes: "You three can also debut as a group."
Although Jiang Yu was straightforward, he was very smart and could understand Yu Shu's thoughts: "I just happened to know it."
After the four of them had eaten and drunk their fill, Yu Huan took charge of washing the dishes and cleaning up.
Yu Shu stood between Jiang Yu and Zhao Jingyun, blocking their intentional or unintentional peripheral vision from exchanging ideas.
