Chapter 12 Mad Dog Hotel

Chapter 12 Mad Dog Hotel

Once inside the police station, the middle-aged man sobered up.

He had no recollection of what he had done while drunk, and when he saw himself on the surveillance footage, he was dumbfounded.

"No, no, no, no, that's impossible, officer," the man exclaimed in shock. "I've been drinking for over ten years, and I've never even dared to drive drunk. How could I possibly, possibly do such a thing..."

The police officer tapped on the surveillance camera. "Who is this? It's a ghost!"

"I, I, this..." The man panicked for a while, and finally apologized to Lü Shi'an, "I'm really sorry, brother. I probably drank too much and got drunk. I'm usually a very proper person. I'm really sorry, I'm so sorry."

This positive attitude is completely different from how he was brandishing the knife just now.

After arguing until 1 a.m., Lü Shi'an lost his temper. "I've sent the car to be repaired. I'll send you the bill when it comes out. Let's call it a day. Everyone has to go to work tomorrow."

The assistants who came to help all went back to the hospital first, leaving Huang Zhenyi to squat outside and wait for Lü Shi'an.

Seeing him come out, Huang Zhenyi clapped his hands and stood up, "How did it go, brother?"

Lu Shi'an nodded wearily, "Thank you for your help. What would you like to eat? It's on me."

"It's alright." Huang Zhenyi waved his hand. "Night shifts already have a late-night snack allowance."

Lu Shi'an didn't say anything, but transferred 500 yuan to Huang Zhenyi and told him to buy something.

"Where's Xiao Lu?" he asked.

"The police greeted us when they arrived and then went back first."

Lu Shi'an frowned. "It's too unsafe at night." Even he had encountered a drunk man with a weapon.

"Oh, Xiao Lu took her there," Huang Zhenyi said.

Lu Shi'an looked up, and Huang Zhenyi was taken aback by his gaze. "What's wrong, Brother Lu?"

Lu Shi'an frowned, and after a long while, shook his head. "It's nothing, you should go back to the hospital."

Lu Qi left after confirming that the police had taken over the case.

She took a few steps and found Lulu following her.

She stopped and turned to look back.

Lulu smiled at her, "It's not safe, I'll take you."

He still had a nice smile, but it wasn't as warm and bright anymore; he seemed to be hiding something.

Lu Qi did not refuse.

Even after so long, she's still afraid.

With her tacit approval, the smile finally warmed up a bit. Lulu followed, her steps light, walking alongside Lu Qi, a shoulder's width ahead of her.

After the two walked across the overpass, Lu Qi suddenly spoke after a moment of silence, "Xiao Lu."

Lulu's ears twitched, and she quickly turned her head to look at her.

“Just now,” Lu Qi was also looking at him, “why didn’t you go over and help?”

Before Lulu could speak, she added, "I'm not saying you absolutely have to help, but I thought that given your personality, you would step in."

Instead of standing by and watching indifferently.

Lulu's eyes dimmed slightly, and after a moment, he said softly, "I have to stay by your side."

Lu Qi stamped his foot.

He said, "Lu Shi'an is taller than the other party, and he can handle it alone. Rather than helping him, I should be more wary of whether that person has accomplices lying in ambush or whether he might suddenly rush at you."

Lu Qi's gaze shifted slightly. "Is that really all there is to it?"

Lulu stood with her feet together, blinking at her. "I don't understand."

"Perhaps I'm being petty. If I'm judging you with my own narrow-mindedness, then I apologize in advance." Lu Qi gripped the bag chain, put on a nonchalant smile, and tried to lighten the mood.

"Xiao Lu, I'll ask you one more time: Do you... have feelings for me?"

That day in the corridor, Lu Shi'an only wanted to pull her, but Lulu suddenly pressed him against the wall.

His actions that time could already be described as noble; today, the reasons he gave were even more high-sounding, and Lu Qi found it hard to believe that he was completely selfless.

"Yes." The young man did not shy away from the question and admitted it directly, "I like you, I love you."

The last three words were too abrupt, and Lu Qi chuckled, "We've only known each other for a short time."

Lulu shook her head. "It's been a long time. I've loved you for a long time."

Lu Qi pursed her lips, which had been dried by the winter wind. "Was it... back in college?"

Lulu smiled. "Pretty much."

Lu Qi had no recollection of it.

"Really?" she said casually. "I had no idea that such a handsome junior had a crush on me."

After saying that, she frankly said, "Thank you, Xiaolu. You are very outstanding, but I have no plans to date or get married. So don't waste your time on me."

“It’s alright,” the young man laughed. “I don’t care about marriage, and I have no desire to have children.”

"I love you, I just love you, Lu Qi, I will always love you."

Those dark, round eyes reflected the lights behind Lu Qi, twinkling like stars in the night sky.

He looked at her with such sincere and clear eyes that no one could underestimate the emotions in them.

He truly loved her.

Lu Qi was stunned.

She was overwhelmed by intense emotions; she had never seen such pure and passionate feelings before. No response was needed from her; it was as if the very act of confessing to her was enough to make Lulu happy.

“Forever…” Lu Qi lowered his head and chuckled, trying to hide some pent-up emotions. “How old are you? What are you talking about forever?”

Even with her head down, she could feel how intense Lulu's gaze was.

But he said nothing, made no further promises or oaths.

Lulu has many ways to express love, but he has learned from common sense that none of those actions are appropriate for the moment.

He can only express love in the most primal ways of humans and animals—

He gazed at her, and if she were to meet his gaze, she would see the overflowing, intense love in his eyes.

However, Lu Qi did not look at him.

She walked past Lulu with her eyelids half-closed, as if trying to escape.

"That's childish talk." She walked past him and chuckled. "When you get a little older, not only will your family be urging you to get married, but you yourself will also want to have children."

She waved her hand with her back to Lulu, "No need to see me off, go back now."

Before the farewell was even finished, the young man caught up with them.

He still walked beside her, a shoulder's width above her, his steps light and his expression showing no sign of disappointment, only joy.

Lu Qi glanced at him in surprise. The moment she looked over, Lulu immediately turned around and gave her a bright smile.

Lu Qi sighed. It's good to be young. Even after being rejected, you're still so energetic.

She could understand Lulu's thoughts; a boy as handsome and from a wealthy family as him must not lack confidence in matters of the heart.

“If you think you can definitely win me over, you’re wrong,” Lu Qi reminded him again. “Xiao Lu, I’m serious.”

“I know, I don’t insist on being your partner.” Lulu was equally serious. “It’s enough for you to treat me like a pet.”

Lu Qi was stunned: "Huh?"

“I’m perfectly content with just taking a walk together occasionally,” Lulu continued. “I’m very good at walking; I won’t rush, and I’ll always keep pace with you.”

“If I walk ahead of you, it will only be to detect any danger. I will keep an eye on you at all times. You can call me whenever you want to go for a walk.”

"Wait a minute." Lu Qi was struggling with how to refuse him just a moment ago, but now she was amused by him. "What nonsense. I've heard of people willing to be lovers, but this is the first time I've heard of someone willing to be a pet."

What a sudden surge! You make it sound so convincing.

"Alright, Lulu, I'm here." She knew that Lulu said this in the hopes that the two of them wouldn't feel so awkward.

"Thank you for bringing me back." She waved to him as she entered the residential area, "It's too late, you should go home early, you have to go to work tomorrow."

Lulu stood at the door and watched her leave.

He smiled, feeling lost because of Lu Qi's departure, but also happy because of this walk after eight years.

Even if she didn't believe his confession, just being able to take a walk with him was enough to make Lulu overjoyed.

[Tsk. Look how happy you are, wagging your tail like a dog.]

A rough, low bird call interrupted Lulu's joy.

A huge black swallow had appeared on the guard booth sometime during the night.

It spoke jokingly, "[How's it going? Enjoy using this ability?]"

Thick, dark red mist swirled around Lulu, but he ignored Yanzi.

Under the streetlights, his shadow stretched long and thin. The light flickered twice, and something seemed to writhe and twist within the shadow, answering the swallow's question in his stead.

[The laws of this world limit us. In your own world, your power would be far greater.] The swallow flapped its wings. [Manipulating people to vandalize Lü Shi'an's car is nothing. If you want, turning Lü Shi'an into a madman or a dog is no problem.]

Lulu's smile cooled.

The smile vanished from that elegant face, replaced by a chilling aura.

After a long silence, he spoke as if to himself, "She needs this world."

[Huh? Are you kidding me?] The swallow flew up. [What did this world give her? A job that often required working overtime until the early hours of the morning, a country teeming with criminals at night—truly a perfect closed loop.]

It landed on Lulu's head, its sharp claws hooking into her light golden hair. [Are you sure she likes this world?]

[In the hospital, she had to force herself to deal with so many men; back home, she faced the portraits of the three of you. She went through several boxes of those medications. You were by her side for eight years; did you ever see her love for the world?]

Lulu remained silent.

He knew that this world would only bring Lu Qi pain, but deep down, Lulu had a premonition that Lu Qi would not like ghost stories at all.

This premonition came from nowhere, and not only did Yanzi not understand it, but Lulu was also confused by her own hesitation.

The swallow chuckled and disappeared back into the darkness.

It noticed Lulu's wavering.

Young male dogs are always restless; their instincts and genes drive them to become pack leaders, claim their own territory, and establish their own rules.

Having tasted the sweetness of power, how could he possibly be willing to be bound by the rules of this world like an ordinary person?
