Chapter 8 Mad Dog Hotel
"Dr. Lu, Edward is here for a follow-up appointment!"
“Bring it over.” Lu Qi opened Edward’s file.
The door was pushed open, and it wasn't Tian Miaoying who opened it, but Lulu.
Ever since Lu Qi asked him to trim her nails once, he has frequently come to help, almost taking over Tian Miaoying's work.
Lulu brought the dog owner and the dog to the clinic. The chubby Labrador wagged its tail as it walked in.
Lu Qi turned the stool around, first patted the Labrador's head, and asked with a smile, "How's the recovery going?"
The owner complained, "They're eating and drinking so well, you can't tell anything's wrong with them."
"You seem to have gained a little weight?"
"I almost died after eating chocolate, and my parents are so worried about me that they're giving me lots of supplements every day."
"Talk to the old man and tell him that he can't keep feeding it like this, it's already overweight."
As Lu Qi talked to his owner, he unconsciously rubbed the Labrador's earlobe.
She supported her drooping ear with her four fingers, and gently swirled her thumb around the base of her ear.
Lulu stared at the woman's hands and took a half-step forward with her toes.
"Woof!" The fat Labrador noticed something, turned around abruptly, and barked twice at Lulu behind him.
The owner quickly patted the dog's back, "It's okay, it's okay, we won't give it a shot this time, we'll just let the vet take a look."
Following her master's lead, Lu Qi said, "That's right, we don't want injections, we just want a little blood test, okay?"
Her voice was different from when she spoke to people; it became sweet and cloying.
Lulu opened her eyes wide.
Even though he had always been by Lu Qi's side and had heard her speak softly to other animals countless times, at this moment, standing right in front of her, she seemed oblivious, instead showering affection on a fat, old dog.
Even death had never caused Lulu such pain.
With the support of its owner and the care of the veterinarian, the Labrador grew increasingly confident and barked loudly at Lulu.
The owner found it amusing, thinking, "Oh no, it knows who's going to give it the shot."
Lu Qi calmed it down for a while, then turned around to register the Labrador's information in the system, instructing Lulu, "Put a muzzle on it."
She remembered that the Labrador was very docile when she last came here, though it might also have been poisoned and had no strength to resist.
The cries were a bit aggressive at this moment, so for safety's sake, Lu Qi decided to put a muzzle on it.
Lulu approached the Labrador.
His gaze swept slowly and discerningly over the dog, from the Labrador's yellowish, tartar-covered teeth to its barrel-shaped body with no visible ribs, and then to its dry, rough tail.
Finally, that cold gaze settled on Labrador's throat.
The dog's barking grew increasingly shrill, a sound that alerted Lu Qi to something amiss.
"What's wrong?" she had just asked when Lulu bent down.
The owner also found it a bit strange, "It rarely barks like that."
He held the muzzle and smiled gently, "You might be a little scared, that's okay. Please step back a bit, and I'll guide it."
The handsome young man's smile was elegant and charming, making people feel warm and friendly.
"Thank you, doctor." The woman stepped back and entrusted the dog to Lulu.
"Woof woof!" The Labrador anxiously turned around, trying to avoid Lulu's hand. As soon as it moved, the leash around its neck was suddenly pulled in the opposite direction.
Before it could react, the black muzzle had already covered the mouthpiece.
The dog's head shook violently, trying to shake off the muzzle.
Lu Qi immediately wrapped her arms around the dog from behind, holding it close to her so that Lulu could put on a muzzle.
She patted the Labrador's chest, comforting him repeatedly, "It's alright, it's alright, we're not afraid anymore, it'll be over in a little while."
Lulu pursed her lips, then suddenly tightened the muzzle, tugging the strap deep into the dog's fur.
The force was so strong it seemed like it was going to strangle the dog. The Labrador whimpered in pain. Lulu was blocking the owner's view, but Lu Qi did notice and whispered to Lulu, "Be gentle!"
Lulu paused, then reluctantly loosened her grip slightly.
The blood test results were very good. Lu Qi instructed his owner, "Make sure to keep a close eye on it, and make sure it doesn't get ingested again."
The owner nodded repeatedly, "Okay, okay."
"I need to lose some weight; it's not good to stay this fat."
"Okay, thank you, Dr. Lu."
The dog owner was walking his Labrador outside when he passed Lulu. He smiled at her and said, "Thank you too, little brother."
Lulu smiled and said, "You're welcome. It's what I should do."
He opened the door to see the guests off, and Lu Shi'an outside saw him and quickly walked over, "Xiao Lu, what are you doing here?"
Lulu glanced at him and was about to close the door when Lu Qi, who was in the clinic, explained for him, "A Labrador just came in and wasn't very obedient, so I asked him to hold it down for me."
Lu Shi'an understood. "I need to perform surgery in a bit, so I'll take him with me first?"
Lu Qi nodded; this was originally someone else's assistant.
Lu Shi'an took a few steps and realized that Lulu had not kept up with him.
He tilted his head, gesturing for him to come over.
Lulu stood in the doorway, her expression indifferent. "I need to be here."
His matter-of-fact attitude made Lü Shi'an laugh. "Why do you need to be here?"
Lulu glanced at him and then closed the door.
The next moment, the glass door was pulled open from the outside, revealing Lü Shi'an's slightly annoyed face.
“Xiao Lu,” he emphasized, “come with me and don’t disturb Dr. Lu.”
Lulu stood firm at the goal line, not backing down an inch. "I didn't disturb her; she needs me."
The atmosphere was a bit off, and there were prying eyes in the corridor. Lu Qi immediately went to the door. "I'm sorry, Dr. Lü, there have been a lot of large dogs here these past few days. Miao Ying and I couldn't control them, so we had to call Xiao Lu a few more times."
She then whispered to Lulu, "I'm all set here, you and Dr. Lü can go now."
With Lu Qi smoothing things over, Lü Shi'an didn't want things to get too tense, so he softened his expression and said, "Did you hear that, Xiao Lu? Come with me."
The young man ignored the steps he offered.
He turned around, his round eyes glistening with tears as he looked at Lu Qi:
"But I have to stay by your side."
Lu Qi was slightly taken aback.
His words were somewhat inappropriate, but his tone and demeanor were not frivolous at all; on the contrary, they were filled with a kind of sincere conviction.
Lu Qi suddenly realized why he wasn't afraid of Xiao Lu at all—
Those clear eyes were just like her Lulu's.
The two stared at each other, and Lu Shi'an outside the door slowly darkened his face.
A note from the author:

I was determined to write this article in a thrilling and terrifying way.
When I finished writing it, I couldn't see a single scary detail. It was completely unrelated to the original eerie cover, so I quickly changed it to a new one. Don't get lost!
